Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The North Sea regions were mostly well behaved with two DNFs (Did Not Finish) recorded on the day. The first DNF, occurring during the small boat portion, was due to a skipper crashing while crossing over region corners. The remaining DNF, occurring during the big boat portion, was from a skipper removing his boat after getting caught in irons. The crowds that gathered on the shores on the islands in the Ziziphus, and Genip regions, and along the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, relished a peppy display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers.
This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on North Sea Olympic Course (Long), was made up of a majority of four Bandit 22 LTEs. Three Bandit IFs, two sailing single-handed and one crewed1 respectively, two Isard Mini Transats, two The Mesh Shop (TMS) Sea Boss – Riders, one TMS Flying Shadow, and one Shields Class rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Butterfly course, was made up of a majority of three TMS I-Mocca 60s. One WildWind AC-45, one Trudeau 12 Metre, one ACA33, one TMS Palain, one TMS Es Paradis, one TMS Ocean Beach, and one Bandit 50/3 rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.
1Today’s crewed boat was the team of Araton (Araton Titanium) & Ana (Sheeana Yue). Crewed boats are noted with the skipper’s name in the results table.
