Choppy seas, a varied fleet, and a new boat highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The regions of The North Sea were slightly helter skelter as there were four DNFs (Did Not Finish) recorded on the day, two from the same sailor crashing in both races. The other two DNFs were no better, one from Red as her internet connection quit and the other, from Moon, as he pulled his boat during the first race after he crashed. The rest of the fleet fared better as the mix of boats was more varied than in past weeks. The fleet was comprised of a majority of seven Bandit IFs. Two Bandit 25Rs, a Bandit 50r, and a Bandit 50/3 made up the remainder of the fleet. Speaking of the Bandit 50/3, that’s not a typo. Anaylse Dean, the creator of Bandit boats brought along the newly updated boat, skippered by Macz Murfin. The Bandit 50/3 is powered by BOSS3 scripts and features a new mesh boat model. As this was the Bandit 50/3’s first appearance in an organized race, it has a preliminary handicap of 1.0 until we have more data points to give it a proper handicap*.

*A minimum of three results from a boat’s run on North Sea Olympic Course (Long) are needed to create a handicap.

Today’s winner was Sandra (WWWAAAA Resident), with Margo (gsgraaf Resident) second, and Nikki (Nikki Lacrima) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.

Race Notes:
Jackson (Jacquimo Resident) and Max (Maximiliano Szondi) both finished tied with 11 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
Jacquimo Resident 4 7
Maximiliano Szondi 5 6

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Jackson’s favor with having a fourth place finish over Max’s fifth place finish as his best.

Moon (moonglownight Resident) and Red (RedHeadJO Resident) both finished tied with 19 points. As the both have the exact same finishes, a DNF (Did Not Finish) and DNS (Did Not Start) in each race respectively, neither rule A8.1 or rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing can satisfy breaking this tie. Therefore, Moon and Red remain ties in tenth place overall.

Calm sim sailing weather and a great fleet turnout featured during this weeks North Sea Bandit IF Races. The waters of the North Sea behaved well as there were only two DNFs (Did Not Finish) on the day, from the same sailor in both races. There was, however, some lag issues in both the Morinda and Feijoa regions and that will be sorted out in the next week. Spectators enjoyed the racing that the calming conditions enabled, from both the committee boat dock in the Eden Curlew region and the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier in the Eden Lapwing region. This weeks fleet, racing on the North Sea 101 and North Sea 102 courses, was nine Bandit IFs strong, six single-handed and three crewed boats respectively.

Shau, Leilani, Joshua, and Elbag look on as Daenerys gives instructions to the skippers, Rugger, Fanny, Max and Wyndi, Sirius, Tay and Randy, Red, Moon, Sasha, and Margo and Knittedbit, all in Bandit IFs, before the start of the North Sea Bandit IF Races, on Saturday, April 27th, 2019.

Smooth sim sailing weather featured during this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. Linden Lab may have finally fixed the teleport/region crossing issues as crossings were smooth as glass today. The waters of the North Sea treated the sailors well as there were no DNFs (Did Not Finish) on they day. Once again, spectators enjoyed the racing as they flocked to the shores of the islands in both the Genip and Ziziphus regions, as well as the committee boat dock in the Eden Curlew region. This weeks fleet, sailing on the updated North Sea Extreme* and North Sea Triple Pink** courses, was comprised entirely of The Mesh Shop Flying Shadows, four single-handed and three crewed boats respectively.

* North Sea Triple Pink was originally created by Petra Paname in 2017.
** North Sea Extreme was originally created by Julia Salzano in 2016.

The fleets gets underway at the start of the first race for the North Sea Cat Fight, on Friday, April 26th, 2019.

Smooth sim sailing weather and another great spectator turnout featured during this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The Lindens continue to work on the teleport/region crossing issues (see: Deploy Plans for week of 2019-04-22) and the early results are promising. We only had one DNF (Did Not Finish) on the day, during the small boat portion with ten other boats finishing with no reported issues, resulting in some great sailing sim weather. Spectators enjoyed the smooth seas and resulting great racing as they flocked to the shores along the island in the Genip region and the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier in the Eden Lapwing region.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the newly updated North Sea Olympic Course Long, originally created by Petra Paname back in 2014, was mostly a catamaran affair featuring a majority of six The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows. Two TMS Nacra 17s, two Bandit 25Rs, and one Bandit IF. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the newly updated North Sea Butterfly course, originally created by Maddie Haricot back in 2015, was made up evenly between two Wildwind AC-45s, two Wildwind Open 60s, two TMS Volvo Open 70s, one TMS One Design 65, and one TMS Ushuaia.

The fleet gets underway during the small boat portion of the North Sea Open Regatta, on Wednesday, April 24th, 2019.

Choppy sim sailing weather and a hungry set of region corners highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The North Sea regions behaved well for the first portion of the regatta, as only three DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded, one to a set of region corners. The seas turned a little choppy, and slightly hungry, for the second portion, as five DNFs were recorded, four of which again were due to a set of region corners. The lesson here, avoid a sim crossing at region corners as an avatar can not exist in four regions at once. Spectators were still thrilled to watch the racing at hand, as they flocked to the islands in the Genip and Ziziphus regions to cheer on the sailors. This weeks fleet, racing on the North Sea 02 and North Sea Circle courses, was comprised of majority of seven Bandit IFs. Two Bandit 25Rs made up the remainder of the fleet.

A nice spectator turnout and choppy sailing sim weather featured during this weeks North Sea Cat Fight. After restarting all the North Sea regions two hours previous to race start, and Linden Lab’s ongoing efforts to remedy the teleport/region crossing situation (see: Teleport Disconnects), we still had four DNFs (Did Not Finish) due to crashes on the day (two in each race respectively). The gathered crowd was undeterred, however, as spectators were on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier in the Eden Lapwing region, the committee boat dock in the Eden Curling region, and the island in the Genip region. This weeks fleet, racing on the North Sea Roundabout and North Sea Trapezoid courses, was comprised of a majority of five The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows with one lone TMS Nacra 17.

The fleet gets underway at the start of the first race for the Cat Fight in The North Sea, on Friday, April 19th, 2019.

Calm waters, and a great spectator and fleet turnout featured during this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The waters of the North Sea treated sailors well today as only one DNF (Did Not Finish) was recorded in each race, for a total of two DNFs on the day. The spectators who gathered on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier, and along the shores of the islands in the Genip and Ziziphus region, as well as the islands along the northern edge of the Fruit Islands estate, were treated to some large fleet racing in both portions. The small boat fleet showcased thirteen boats while the big boat fleet had another ten boats.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Circle course, was comprised of a majority of six The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, one of which was crewed. Four TMS Nacra 17s, two Bandit 25Rs, and one Bandit IF made up the remainder of the small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the newly created North Sea 04 course, was comprised of a slim majority of three TMS Volvo Open 70s. Two Wildwind Open 60s, one Wildwind RC-44r, one TMS One Design 65, one TMS Ushuaia, one ACA33, and one Trudeau 12 Metre made up the remainder of the big boat fleet.

The fleet gets under way during the small boat portion of the North Sea Open Regatta, on Wednesday, April 17th, 2019.

A new week and another original returns in The North Sea. The IF-Star-25R Regatta is once again the Bandit Regatta, which first graced the shores of Fruit Islands and North Sea back in 2015. Gone is the Star Class from the eligibility list, due to waning participation from that boat class. Returning to the eligibility list is the Bandit 50, Bandit 55, and Bandit 60. Therefore, the full breadth of the Bandit line of sail boats that enable manual sail trimming and SLSA race line compatibility is allowed (Bandit IF, Bandit 25, Bandit 50, Bandit 55, and Bandit 60 inclusive). Please see the North Sea Handicap Table for handicap values for each boat.

With the return of the Bandit Regatta, the waters of the North Sea treated the sailors with a bumpy welcome, as four DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded during the first race. However, the seas calmed as only one DNF was recorded during the second race. Spectators were treated to some great racing, as they gathered along the shores of the islands in the Genip region and Ziziphus region. This weeks fleet was comprised of a majority of seven Bandit IFs, with three Bandit 25Rs making up the remainder.

The fleet approaches the start line at the beginning of the first race for the North Sea Bandit Regatta, on Monday, April 15th, 2019.

Finicky sim sailing weather and a nice fleet turnout featured during this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. The waters of the North Sea dealt an uneven hand to the fleet as five of the seven DNFs (Did Not Finish) on the day were due to either crashes or bad crossings, three in the first race and two in the second race. The other two DNFs were from a sailor hitting regions corners in both races (you cannot be in four regions at once). Meanwhile, the spectator turnout was nice as a small crowd gathered on the committee boat at the race line, in the Eden Curlew region, with more spectators enjoying the comfort of the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier, in the Eden Lapwing region. This weeks fleet was comprised of a majority of seven The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying shadows, two crewed and five single-handed, with one lone TMS Nacra 17.

The fleet gets under way during the start of the second race of the North Sea Cat Fight, on Friday, April 12th, 2019. Right to left: Julnara and Equen (TMS Flying Shadow), Daenerys (TMS Flying Shadow), Rayz (TMS Flying Shadow). Isa and Laured (TMS Flying Shadow), Moon (TMS Flying Shadow), and Shau (TMS Nacra 17).

Rayz (Rayzza Rubble) and Daenerys (blondij Resident) both finished tied with 10 points. As they both finished with the exact same finishes, DNFs (Did Not Finish) in both races respectively, neither Rule A8.1 nor Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing will satisfy breaking this tie, therefore they remain tied in sixth place overall.
