Saturday afternoon was a beautiful windy winter day. The last bandit IF Regatta of 2021. This week, we had a fleet of thirteen Bandit IFs at the start, two of the thirteen Bandit IFs had crews. The North Sea and Fruit regions behaved reasonably well.
From the start of the first race we had a leading group of seven boats. At the first island the entire fleet was together again, with four boats slightly ahead of the rest. At the second island, the four boats had slightly increased the distance to the rest of the fleet. Between the second and the third island, mutual fighting arose and when we emerged from Fruit towards the North Sea we still had four boats in the lead. Behind it was a loner with four pursuers behind it. The place for fourth and fifth place would be decided at the finish.
After the start of the second race we had a group of ten boats sailing towards the first mark. Two skippers decided to sail a different route to the first mark. This gave us a group of five, two loners and a group of three who followed the first five boats. The rear two of the front runners turned first towards the first mark. Then the other three followed. This shook up the order of the leading group. When we arrived at the third mark we still had a leading group of four boats, from these four boats the winner would come.
I want to thank all skippers for participating in the competitions or the North Sea and wish you a prosperous 2021. Hopefully we will see each other again in the new year.
We had two DNFs (Did Not Finish) and no DSQs (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporting day in The North Sea.
More pictures after the results.

Today’s winner was Rugger (ruggeromare Resident), with Julie (JulieRoyale Resident) second, and Moon (moonglownight Resident) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.
Race Notes:
Julie (JulieRoyale Resident) and Moon (moonglownight Resident) both finished the first race tied at the finishing line with a time of 16:51. As their final time also remains tied, as they both sailed the same boat, Rule A7 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to score this tie:
“If boats are tied at the finishing line or if a handicap or rating system is used and boats have equal corrected times, the points for the place for which the boats have tied and for the place(s) immediately below shall be added together and divided equally. Boats tied for a race prize shall share it or be given equal prizes.“
Therefore, both Julie (JulieRoyale Resident) and Moon (moonglownight Resident) receive 3.5 points, as the product for the place for which they have tied and for the place immediately below, 3 and 4, added together and divided equally.
Jack (Jacquimo Resident) and Max (Maximiliano Szondi) both finished tied with 18 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.“
Skipper | Best Finish | Next Best Finish |
Jacquimo Resident | 6 | 12 |
Maximiliano Szondi | 9 | 9 |
With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Jack’s favor with having a sixth place finish over Max’s ninth place finish as his best.
Cilian (Cilian McCullough ) and Juicy (juice651 Resident) both finished tied with 22 points.
Cilian McCullough | 10 | 12 |
juice651 Resident | 11 | 11 |
With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Cilian’s favor with having a tenth place finish over Juicy’s eleventh place finish as his best.
