Bandit Regatta – August 29th 2016

This weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta saw a nice dedicated turnout with smooth sim weather. The sims continued their almost month long streak of great performance with no crashes or lag. This weeks fleet consisted entirely of Bandit IF’s until the second race, when Cor switched things up and raced his Bandit 50 instead.

The first race, on the North Sea Olympic Course (Long) course, saw a nice clean start, or ‘vanilla ice cream’ start as Joshua put it, with everyone on a starboard tack across the line and no barging or ROW violations. Alexandre was first across with Stu and then Jackson next. Rulette followed them across with Cor crossing last. Alexandre kept the pace and the lead for the entire course, crossing the finish first. Stu was next across with Jackson following. Rulette pulled into the dock at the committee boat, half way through the course to record a DNF as she bowed out early. Cor, bringing up the rear of the fleet, crossed last.

The second race, on the North Sea Trapezoid course, saw a more exciting start. Stu was first across the line on a starboard tack but Alexandre and Cor, changing tactics and now racing his Bandit 50, were next choosing a risky port start. Alexandre and Cor had just cleared the course side area of the start line in the nick of time, as Jackson crossed next on a starboard tack. Alexandre and Cor’s risky choice paid off as they both rounded the first course mark in Ziziphus ahead of Stu. Alexandre wound up taking line honors with Cor crossing second. Stu followed next with Jackson finishing after. As Cor raced his Bandit 50 in this race, handicaps will be applied so the line results will not be reflective of the final results.

North Sea Open Regatta – August 24th 2016

This weeks North Sea Open Regatta saw some fast racing and a bumpy rough start. The seas played nice again, continuing their streak of calm performance, allowing for some fast racing in both the small boats and big boats races. Not all was smooth, however, as there was a barging incident in the start of the big boats race that ultimately resulted in DNF’s for four boats.

This weeks small boat fleet, racing on the North Sea Trapezoid course, was made up of a majority of three Nacra 17’s. Two Dolphin Moth’s, two Melges-24’s, two Bandit IF”s, a Trudeau One, a Leetle Cat II, and a Bandit 25 made up the remainder of the fleet. Racing got off to a quick start as my Dolphin Moth paced the fleet. Joshua, with Gabi as crew, racing on his newly acquired Dolphin Moth, was right behind me. The Nacra 17’s of Lalia, Arya, and Jamie followed next with the Melges-24’s of Beane and Lucy right in the middle of that pack. Alexandre, in his Bandit IF, was next with Cor, in his Trudeau One, Ultramantra, in his Bandit IF, Lampoon, in his Leetle Cat II, and Burton, in his Bandit 25, taking up the rear. I crossed the line first with Joshua and Gabi finishing next. Lalia, in her Nacra 17, managed to squeak ahead of Beane, in her Melges-24, and cross the line just 4 seconds ahead of her for an exciting finish. Lucy was next, in her Melges-24, followed by Jamie, Alexandre, Cor, Ultramantra and finally Lampoon.

This weeks big boat fleet, racing on the North Sea Copacabana course, was made up of a large majority of 5 Wildwind RC-44’s. Two Trudeau 12 Metre’s, a Bandit 50, a One Design 65, and a Ushuaia made up the remainder of the big boat fleet. The fleet got off to a rough start, as Lampoon got to the start line early, sailed up the line to avoid going over early, and barged several of the RC-44’s as they were approaching the line on their start. The contact with the RC-44’s seemed to spell doom for them as three crashed out in the Carob region immediately south of the start line, recording DNF’s. Ultramantra’s 12 Metre also succumbed to a crash and a DNF as he crashed in Carob as well, after making contact at the line just to the rear of Lampoon. The rest of the fleet raced on, however, with Beane, in her One Design 65, Arya, unscathed in her RC-44R, and Alexandre, also unscathed in his RC-44, lead the fleet. Lampoon was next, holding on with his Trudeau 12 Metre, with my Ushuaia, and Cor’s bandit 50 not far behind. I would up passing Lampoon, along the windward side, on the long reaching leg of the course between Eden Fulmer and Sloe. Cor subsequently passed Lampoon on the second to the lest leg, in Sapote.

Bandit Regatta – August 22nd 2016

This weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta featured some exciting racing and smooth sim weather. We saw continued smooth sailing weather among the North Sea sims with no DNF’s recorded from crashes in the fleet. Great racing was also on display as some of our newer sailors are really showing great improvement from week to week. This weeks fleet was made up of a majority of six Bandit IF’s with one lone bandit 60 making up the remainder.

Racing got off to a great start on NS-SOL-13A for the first race. Bettie, with Ansa as crew, crossed the line first in her Bandit IF. Joshua, in his Bandit IF, was next with Jackson, in his Bandit IF, Cor, in his Bandit IF, Burton, in his Bandit 60, and Ultramantra, in his Bandit IF, all following. Alexandre came across the line before Burton but crashed going into Carob and came back to re-start and finished the race in good shape. Bettie, with Ansa, showing great improvement as she’s only recently just started sailing, took line honors, her first! Joshua was next to finish, with Jackson, Cor, Alexandre, and Ultramantra all following. Burton was disqualified for using the Autopilot sail auto trimming feature on his Bandit 60 during the race. This takes any sailmanship out of racing the boat and is an automatic disqualification if used during any races in The North Sea.

The second race, on NS-SOL-13B, saw an exciting start. Joshua and Bettie, with Ansa, both pulled off a risky port start in front of Alexandre, who was on a starboard start, with just enough room to spare. Ultramantra was across next, with Jackson, Cor, and Burton, in his lone Bandit 60, across next. Alexandre showed some great sailing skill as he passed both Bettie and Joshua to lead the fleet as it rounded the southern edge of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region. Alexandre ultimately took line honors. Bettie was next across followed by Joshua, Ultramantra, Jackson, Cor and finally Burton.

North Sea Open Regatta – August 17th 2016

Great sim weather, a nice turnout, and some swift racing were on display in this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The sims continued their recent string of smooth performance. We had a nice turnout for both small boat and big boat races as well with a fleet of 10 across both.

The small boat fleet, racing on the NS-SOL-13A course, was made up of a majority of five Bandit IF’s. Two Nacra 17’s, a Dolphin Moth, a Melges-24, a Leetle Cat II, and a Trudeau One made up the remainder of the fleet. The start was foul free and quick as my Dolphin Moth paced ahead of the fleet with Arya, in her Nacra 17, close behind. Beane followed, in her Melges-24, along with Cor, in his Trudeau One. The IF pack came next, with Alexandre, and Red, Lampoon, sneaking through in his Leetle Cat II, Cranston, and Jackson in the rear. Jamie, who started out pretty strong on his Nacra 17, tickled a corner and wound up recording a DNF.

The big boat fleet, racing on the newly created North Sea Copacabana course, was made up of a majority of three Wildwind RC-44’s. Two bandit 60’s, a Quest IACC, a Ushuaia, a One Design 65, and a Trudeau 12 Metre made up the remainder of the fleet. The start was quick and clean with Arya crossing the line first, followed by myself with Dess as crew in my Ushuaia. Beane was right behind me, in her One Design 65, and Cranston with Shaylin as his crew, in his Bandit 60, next across the line. Alexandre, in his RC-44, Cor, in his Trudeau 12 Metre, Jamie, in his RC-44R, Lampoon, in his Quest IACC, and newcomer Alec, in his Bandit 60, were all next across the line. The Wildwind RC-44’s of Arya, and Alexandre, along with Beane’s One Design 65 paced the fleet. Jamie continued his string of bad luck, by recording another DNF after another corner tickling incident in his RC-44. Lampoon stayed comfortably in the middle of the pack through the course, with Cor and I exchanging positions several times just to his stern. The Bandit 60 pack brought up the rear, with Cranston, with Shaylin crewing, and Alec.

Bandit Regatta – August 15th 2016

Another week of great sailing sim weather and really nice turn out featured in this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The sims were well behaved, continuing their string of smooth performance, four our monthly set of courses we call ‘There and Back Again’. We also had a really nice turn out with a fleet of 9 boats. We also saw a lot of spectators gathering on the island in the Ziziphus region as well as at the lighthouse in the Eden Auk region.

This weeks fleet was made up of a majority of seven Bandit IF’s. A Bandit 55 and Bandit 60 made up the remainder of the fleet.

The first race, on the North Sea Breadnut to Eden Auk course, saw the fleet get off to a great start. All 9 boats went across the line in a relatively short time with no fouls. Alexandre, in his Bandit IF, took the lead and didn’t look back with Ultramantra, in his Bandit IF, following up close behind in second. Stu, in his bandit IF, was next, with Joshua, in his Bandit IF, Cranston, in his Bandit 60, Conner, in his Bandit 55, Bettie with Jo, in her Bandit IF, Cor, in his Bandit IF, and finally Jackson, in his Bandit IF, all following. Joshua was experiencing network issues and wound up recording a DNF.

The second race, on the North Sea Eden Auk to Breadnut course, the return portion of ‘There and Back again’, saw a risky port start from Conner that did not pay off. Conner committed a Rule 11 (port/starboard ROW) violation when he made contact with Ultramantra’s Bandit IF just after the start line. Conner did his penalty turn and raced on. Alexandre once again paced the fleet out front with Ultramantra maintaining his composure and following up next. Cranston, Jackson, Bettie with Jo, Cor and Stu all followed behind. Conner had some more trouble when the Tasmanian devil got out of it’s cage again and gnawed on his net cable, causing him to disconnect from SL. He got back in, however, and was able to finish the race.

RC-44 Regatta – August 11th 2016

We had our first fleet race regatta for the recently released Wildwind RC-44 for this weeks North Sea Thursday Regatta. We had a nice turnout for both races, and some great sailing weather with no crashes. The only crash of note was when Joshua tickled a corner right before the finish line, of which he was a DNF in the results.

The first race took place on the North Sea Copacabana course, newly created by Julia, one of the North Sea Race Directors. This new course was quite quick with the RC-44 as it features some nice reaching legs. The fleet got off to a great start, with everyone racing in tight corners but no fouling committed. Beane was first over the line with Arya right behind. I was was next across, followed by Sue, Cor, Joshua and then Sunnysin. Arya and I both wound up overtaking Beane during the run of the course. Joshua and Sunnsyin, not to be left out in passing, overtook Cor and Sue.

The second race took place on the North Sea Extreme course, also created by Julia. This course, which is one of the longer in the North Sea catalog of courses, also proved quick for the RC-44’s as it also features some nice reaching legs. Once again, a great start was had by the fleet as Arya was first across the line with Beane right behind. Cor was next, with Joshua, myself and finally Sue following. This was the race that Joshua tickled the corner on and wound up recording a DNF.

North Sea Open Regatta – August 10th 2016

A great turnout featured in this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. Sim weather continued to be great with no crashes or DNF’s recorded do to the regions. Traffic on the courses was up as it seems most are comping back from summer holiday and taking to the seas again.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Circle course, was primarily a catamaran affair with a split majority of three Nacra 17’s and three Flying Shadows. The remainder of the fleet consisted of two Bandit IF’s, a Dolphin Moth, a Trudeau Patchogue II, a Trudeau One, and a Shields Class. The small boat fleet got off to nice start with no fouls. The catamaran pack lead most of the fleet, behind my Dolphin Moth, coming in before the rest with Viv’s FLying Shadow across second, followed by Arya’s Nacra 17, Beane’s Flying Shadow, Rulette’s Flying Shadow and Conner’s Nacra 17. Stu, with Becca as crew, tickled a corner and crashed, and subsequently recorded a DNF. The rest of the fleet came in with Cor’s Trudeau One crossing, followed by moonglonight’s Shields Class, Alexandre’s Bandit IF, Joshua’s Trudeau Patchogue II, and finally Jackson’s Bandit IF.

This weeks big boat float sailed on North Sea Outer Inner Loop (NS-OIL Rev1) course. The fleet was made up of a majority of One Design 65’s with five. The rest of the fleet consisted of two Wildwind RC-44R’s, two Ushuaia’s, a Trudeau 12 Metre, and a ACA33.
The start was quick and clean, as seen in the photo at the beginning of this post. My RC-44R and Beane’s OD-65 lead the fleet. I unfortunately had a non participating boat collide with my RC-44R in the Eden Godwit sim which rendered the scripts inoperable, which lead to a DNF. Beane continued on and across the line for honors. Joshua was right behind in his One Design 65, followed by Viv in her One Design 65, Arya in her RC-44R, Conner in his One Design 65, Cor in his Trudeau 12 Metre, Stu and Becca in his Ushuaia, and Moonglownight in his ACA33.

Bandit Regatta – August 8th 2016

Wonderfully calm sim weather and great racing were on display in this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The sims continue their streak of calm sim weather with no crashes today. We also saw some great sailing as the fleet spread out across the North Sea with on lookers watching from the island in the Ziziphus region and also the viewing pier in Eden Puffin.

This weeks fleet featured a majority of five Bandit IF’s. One lone Bandit 55 made up the remainder.

The first race, on the North Sea Trapezoid course, saw the fleet get off to a great start. We are seeing everyone’s practice at starts paying off as most are getting to the line within several seconds of the countdown hitting 00:00:00 and the frequency of barging calls has dropped significantly. Stu, in his Bandit IF with Becca as his crew, was across the start first at 4 seconds. Bettie was not far behind, with Red, Alexandre, Rosie, and then Conner following. Bettie had to leave mid-way through the race due to RL calling, and recorded a DNF. The rest of the fleet continued though, with Alexandre passing Stu and Becca to finish first across the line.

The second race, on the North Sea Short Loop course with 3 laps, saw another great start from the fleet. Once again, Stu with Becca got across the line first with Conner 1 second behind them. Next across was Bettie, who’s own efforts practicing starts is showing up, Followed by Alexandre and then Red. Conner suffered some connection problems as Tasmanian devils chewed on his internet cable and he was stripped from his boat. Conner recovered though, getting back on his boat and finishing the race. Alexandre wound passing Bettie and then Stu to take the lead and ultimately first across the line.
