A great fleet turnout, with mild to choppy seas, highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The North Sea regions were behaving well through out the small boat portion, with only two DNFs (Did Not Finish) recorded, one due to incorrectly set gestures and the other due to a failing navigation HUD. The seas turned slightly choppy during the big boat portion, as two more DNFs were recorded, both due to skippers crashing on region crossings. The spectators on hand, on the small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, and on the islands in the Genip, Ziziphus, and Eden Auk regions, were reveling in the great racing on display from this weeks skippers.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on North Sea Olympic Course (Long), was comprised of a majority of eight Bandit IFs, six sailing single-handed and two sailing with crew respectively. Three The Mesh Shop (TMS) Nacra 17s, two TMS Flying Shadows, two TMS Star Class, two Bandit 25Rs, and one Quest Melges-24 rounded out the small boat fleet. Meanwhile, this weeks big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea CCW (Counter-Clockwise) course, was comprised of a majority of five Wildwind Open 60s. Two TMS Pacha 110s, one TMS One Design 65, one Bandit 50/3, one ACA33, and one Wildwind AC-62 rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.

Smooth to stormy seas and another great fleet turnout highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The regions of The North Sea started out smooth as sixteen skippers completed the first race, a multi-lap course, with little to no issue. However, the second race saw the seas get stormy as five DNFs (Did Not Finish) occurred. Of the five DNFs, three were due to crashes with the remaining two due to skippers pulling their boats after getting lost when their navigation HUDs failed. The spectators that gathered on the small race dock and Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier, both in the Eden Jakana region, and on the observation deck of the lighthouse on the island in the Ziziphus region, enjoyed some great racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing a two lap affair on the North Sea Short Loop course and another go around on the North Sea Bowline course, was comprised of a majority of eleven Bandit IFs, nine sailing single-handed and two sailing with crew respectively. Four Bandit 25Rs and one Bandit 60 made up the remainder of this weeks fleet. One skipper did switch things up when she switched to a Bandit 25R for the second race after sailing a Bandit IF in the first race.

Committee Boat: Daenerys, Tamarusha, Dayvana and Joshua
Dock: Holly Nova. Pier: Amella

Saturday afternoon, it was a beautiful day for sailing. This time we had seven Bandit IFs, including two with crew.
The North Sea regions behaved very well.

The first race went smoothly, however, the race was determined quite far in the beginning. Almost half of the skippers turned to the first mark too early, making it quite difficult for them to round well. The other half of the skippers immediately took the lead here. There was a fight for second place later in the race. Everyone adhered to the rules this time.

The second race went smoothly and the fleet stayed together until the first mark. There, two boats split off from the rest. However, one of the two skippers missed the gate and then gave up. The other half of the fleet took a different route to the gate. Then fate satisfied three skippers who sailed one after the other and the first of whom had lost their way.

We had three DSQs (Disqualified) and one DNF (Did Not Finish) through both races, and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

More pictures after the results.

Early stormy seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. A storm set in early during the first race, as the Sapodilla and Sloe regions crashed causing two DNFs (Did Not Finish). Both regions recovered before the start of the second race, as everyone finished without a crash or hiccup. In light of the early storm, the spectators that gathered on the small race dock and Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier, in the Eden Jakana region, and along the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, still reveled in the great racing on display from this weeks fleet-foiled flying felines. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Circle course and North Sea Olympic Course (Long), was comprised of a majority of four The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, split evenly with two sailing single-handed and two sailing with crew respectively. Two TMS Nacra 17s, and a lone Wildwind AC-45 rounded out this weeks catamaran fleet.

Mild seas and another great fleet turnout highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The regions of The North Sea were mild for most of the fleet through both races, however there were still five DNFs (Did Not Finish) recorded on the day. Two DNFs occurred during the small boat portion, with three more DNFs occurring during the big boat portion. Of those DNFs, four were due to skippers crashing on region crossings, with one DNF due to a skipper pulling her boat out of frustration. Crowds gathered in the usual spots, the small race dock and Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier in the Eden Jakana region, and the islands in the Ziziphus, Genip, and Eden Auk regions, to cheer on this weeks skippers as they put on another great display of racing.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Triple Pink course, was comprised of a majority of eight Bandit IFs, six sailing single-handed and two sailing with crew respectively. Two The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, two Bandit 25Rs, one TMS Nacra 17, one TMS Star Class, and one TMS Star Class – Vintage made up the remainder of this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Outer Inner Loop (OIL) course, was comprised of a majority of four Wildwind Open 60s. Two TMS Pacha 110s, two Bandit 50/3s, one ACA33, one TMS Volvo Open 70, and one TMS One Design 65 made up the remainder of this weeks big boat fleet.

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
Silvan Mertel 9 16

Sirius Rosca 12 13

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Silvia’s favor with having a ninth place finish over Rugger’s and Sirius’s twelfth place finishes as their best. Subsequently, as Rugger and Sirius have the exact same finishes, a DNF (Did Not Finish) during the small boat portion and a DNS (Did Not Start) during the big boat portion, neither Rule A8.1 or Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing can satisfy breaking this remaining tie. Therefore, Rugger and Sirius remain tied in fifteenth place overall.

Race Notes:
Moon (moonglownight Resident) and ViV (vivipezz resident) both finished the second race tied with a final time of 0:09:55. As the final time result is rounded to the nearest whole second in the Google Sheet, the exact final times for each skipper are: (race time multiplied by handicap equaling final time, all time in seconds)

Skipper Race Time Handicap Final Time
moonglownight 1043 0.57 594.51
vivipezz 726 0.82 595.32

With the final times shown in seconds, the tie breaks in Moon’s favor with having a 594.51 second finish over ViV’s 595.32 second finish. Just to note, if both skippers final times had been an exact tie, Rule A7 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing would be used to break that tie instead:

If boats are tied at the finishing line or if a handicap or rating system is used and boats have equal corrected times, the points for the place for which the boats have tied and for the place(s) immediately below shall be added together and divided equally. Boats tied for a race prize shall share it or be given equal prizes.

Saturday afternoon. It was a beautiful day for sailing. This time we had ten Bandit IFs, including four with crew.
The North Sea regions behaved very well.
The first race went smoothly and the fleet stayed together for a long time. Several mutual fights started, which kept the race exciting. From the start, two boats broke away from the fleet to rejoin the fleet at the first buoy. A skipper managed not to give room at two buoys, so he had to make two 360° penalty turns.

The second race went smoothly and the fleet stayed together almost to the end. Also in this competition, mutual fights ensued, so that it remained spanned for a long time. However, the competition was dominated from start to finish by a skipper who slipped ahead of the fleet during the start.

We had one DSQ (Disqualified) through both races, and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

More pictures after the results.

Smooth seas and a great fleet turnout highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The regions of The North Sea were calm and smooth for both fleets today, as two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day, one in each portion respectively. Of the two DNFs, one was due to a skipper hitting the intersection of four region corners, during the big boat portion, resulting in the skipper crashing (you can not be in four regions at once). The remaining DNF was due to a skipper crashing on a region crossing during the small boat portion. The spectators that gathered on the small racing dock and Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier, both in the Eden Jakana region, and on the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, were treated to some great racing from this weeks skippers.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Olympic Mirror course, was comprised of a majority of seven Bandit IFs, five sailing single-handed and two sailing with crew respectively. Four The Mesh Shop (TMS) Nacra 17s, two Quest Melges-24s, two Bandit 25Rs, one TMS Star Class, and one TMS Flying Shadow rounded out the small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Extreme Reverse course, was comprised of five Wildwind Open 60s. Two Bandit 50/3s, two TMS One Design 65s, one Quest IACC, one TMS Volvo Open 70, one TMS Pacha 110, one Wildwind AC-45, and one Wildwind AC-62 rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.
