Calm seas, with nice fleet turnouts, highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. With a fresh breeze of 18 knots out of the southwest, The North Sea regions were generally well behaved as three DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. The first two DNFs, both occurring during the small boat portion, were due to a skipper pulling his boat after computer hardware issues, and another skipper crashing while crossing across region corners. The remaining DNF, occurring during the big boat portion, was due to a skipper’s boat’s scripts spitting out errors after a crossing. The crowds that gathered on the beaches of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, as well as along the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on a spirited display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Bowline Reverse course, was made up of a majority of five Bandit 22 LTEs. Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. With a fresh breeze of 18 knots out of the southwest, The North Sea regions were well behaved as three DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. The first DNF, occurring during the first race, was due to a skipper pulling his boat after frustration from getting stuck in irons. The remaining DNFs, occurring during the second race, were due to skippers crashing while crossing over region corners. The crowds that gathered on the lighthouse observation deck on the island in the Ziziphus region, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on a great display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea SS-01 and North Sea Half Mane courses, was made up of a majority of eight Bandit 22 LTEs. Two Bandit IFs, split evenly with one single-handed and one crewed respectively, and one Bandit 55 rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.

Today’s winner was Moon (moonglownight Resident), with Sea (filax Carter) second, and Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate and to the SLCG for helping with race duties.

Race Notes:
Sea (filax Carter) and Moon (moonglownight Resident) both finished the second race tied at the finishing line with a time of 14:59. As their final time also remains tied, as they both sailed the same boat, Rule A7 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to score this tie:

If boats are tied at the finishing line or if a handicap or rating system is used and boats have equal corrected times, the points for the place for which the boats have tied and for the place(s) immediately below shall be added together and divided equally. Boats tied for a race prize shall share it or be given equal prizes.

Therefore, both Sea and Moon receive 1.5 points, as the product for the place for which they have tied and for the place immediately below, 1 and 2, added together and divided equally.

This weeks North Sea Bandit IF Regatta took place on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in March. This time we had a fleet of seven Bandit IFs at the start. Two of the seven Bandit IFs had crew. The North Sea and Fruit Islands regions behaved well. But, at least several different skippers would end up in a thunderstorm

A great start in the first race. Half of the fleet started from port tack and the other half started from starboard tack. As a result, we had a number of exciting moments on the starting line. Four of the seven skippers stayed together for a long time until one of the skippers got bad luck and joined the chasing group of two skippers. As far as the competition progressed, the groups fell apart and two skippers stayed at the head which loved the end to the end.

The start of the second race ran much better and we already had a group of six boats from the start. After the first Mark, a skipper held it. As a result, we left with a group of five boats. A skipper took the lead but he fermented at the fourth mark, which lost the head of position. Another skipper saw the opportunity and immediately took the head position to give it out of your hands. The group of five fell apart and two boats continued to fight for second place.

There were two DNFs (Did Not Finish) and one DSQ (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

Today’s winners on the Bandit IF were Julie (JulieRoyale), with Siri (Sirius Rosca) second, and Max (Maximiliano Szondi) in third place.

Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.

Jack (Jacquimo Resident) was disqualified (DSQ) during the second race for sailing an incorrect course, sailing the first course mark Clockwise instead of Counter Clockwise , the light blue buoy in the Raspberry region.

Alex (Alex0730 Resident) and Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) both finished tied with 12 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
Alex0730 Resident 5 7
ruggeromare Resident 6 6

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Alex’s favor with having a fifth place finish over Rugger’s sixth place finish as his best.

The lone DNF was due to a skipper crashing while crossing across region corners. The crowds that gathered on the beaches on the islands in the Ziziphus, and Genip regions, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on the furious fleet-foiled feline frenzy on display from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Bowline and North Sea 04 v3 courses, was made up of four The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows in the first race. One skipper opted to switch to his TMS Nacra 17 for the second race.
