Bandit Regatta – Jan 30th 2023

Calm seas, with a great fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The North Sea regions were calm for most as one DNF (Did Not Finish) was recorded on the day. The lone DNF, occurring during the first race, was from a skipper crashing while crossing over region corners. The crowds that gathered on the lighthouse observation deck on the island in the Ziziphus region, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on a spirited display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Manta and North Sea Trapezoid courses, was made up of a majority of nine Bandit 22 LTEs. Three Bandit IFs, two sailing single-handed and one crewed respectively, rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.

Alejandro (Boogie Aeghin) was disqualified (DSQ) during the first race for finishing under protest while failing to complete a 360° penalty turn as directed by a race directer due to a Rule 10 On Opposite Tacks foul.

Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. With a fresh breeze of 18 knots out of the southwest, blowing from of the southeast during the second race, The North Sea regions were well behaved as one DNF (Did Not Finish) was recorded on the day. The lone DNF, recorded during the first race, came when a skippers net connection quit on her. The crowds that gathered on the beaches of the islands in the Ziziphus, and Genip regions, and along the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, delighted in the electric fleet-foiled feline fire on display from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Trapezoid and North Sea Cat Fight 02 courses, was made up of seven The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, three sailing crewed and four single-handed respectively. For the second race, a skipper jumped on as crew with another skipper, making four crewed Flying Shadows, and only two single-handed.

The crowds that gathered on the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, and along the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on an energetic display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Triple Pink course, was made up of a majority of eight Bandit 22 LTEs. One The Mesh Shop (TMS) Nacra 17, one Quest M-24, one ReneMarine Clever, and one crewed TMS Star Class rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Butterfly course, was made up of a majority of seven TMS I-Mocca 60s. Two WildWind Open 60s, and one TMS One Design 65 rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.

The first DNF, occurring during the first race, was from a skipper pulling his boat towards the end of the race when his crew decided they needed to go dancing instead. The second DNF, occurring during the second race, was from a skipper crashing while crossing over region corners. The crowds that gathered on the shores of the island in the Ziziphus region, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, took in a lively display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Bowline and North Sea Bowline Reverse courses, was made up of a majority of ten Bandit 22 LTEs. Three Bandit IFs, two sailing single-handed and one crewed respectively, rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet in the first race. For the second race, the crewed Bandit IF team left to go and dance during the end of the first race, while two Bandit 22 LTE skippers joined the fleet.

Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) and Max (Maximiliano Szondi) finished tied with 24 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, 12 point finishes in each race respectively, neither Rule A8.1 or A8.2 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing will satisfy breaking their tie. Therefore, Rugger and Max remain tied in thirteenth place overall.
 

Bandit IF Regatta – Jan 21th 2023

The third North Sea Bandit IF Regatta of 2023 saw a fleet of seven Bandit IFs at the start.

During the start of the first race, Julie immediately took the lead. Followed by Moon, Red and Jack. During the course of the match, Julie distanced herself from Moon. He was closely followed by Red, Jack, and Siri. They would fight for second place.

We started the second race with six boats. Jack was at the start line too early and had to catch up behind. The other five skippers had a good start. Red in front, with Julie at her side and Moon, Siri and Rugger on the second line. Julie and Moon engaged in a fight. Red took advantage of this again. Siri and Rugger continued to follow Red. In Sloe Julie had caught up with Red, Siri followed the two skippers but broke down. Rugger and Moon had fallen a little behind. Jack had made it to the fleet, but failed here. Moon managed to connect with Julie and Red, but Rugger just couldn’t connect. At the Banana region, Julie was still in the lead and Moon and Red battled for second place. Rugger hadn’t given up hope yet and kept his distance. In the Melon region, Moon made a wrong decision that caused Julie to leave the fleet for good. Red and Rugger saw their chance and took over the second and third positions. With Red in second and Rugger in third, the cards seemed to be on the table. However, Red took a different line than Rugger and Moon in the last leg. This would see her finish fourth.

There was one DNF (Did Not Finish) and one DSQ (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. With a fresh breeze of 18 knots out of the southwest, rising to 21 knots during the second race, The North Sea regions were generally well behaved as three DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. The first DNF, occurring during the second race, was from a skipper crashing as he crossed over region borders. The second DNF, also occurring during the second race, was from a skipper pulling her boat after frustration from getting lost. The third and final DNF, also occurring during the second race, was from a skipper pulling her boat after frustration from a navigation error. The crowds that gathered at the islands in the Ziziphus, Genip, and Citrus regions, and along the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, indulged in the fresh fleet-foiled feline fun on display from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Copacabana Reverse and the North Sea Hay courses, was made up of a majority of nine The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, seven sailing single-handed and two crewed respectively. One TMS Nacra 17 rounded out this weeks catamaran fleet in the first race. For the second race, a Flying Shadow skipper picked up crew, and another opted for his TMS Nacra 17.

Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. With a fresh breeze of 18 knots out of the southwest, The North Sea regions were well behaved as one DNF (Did Not Finish) was recorded on the day. The loan DNF was attributed to a skipper crashing while crossing over regions corners during the small boat portion. The crowds that gathered on the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, and along the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, relished a thrilling display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Copacabana course, was made up of a majority of five Bandit 22 LTEs. Three The Mesh Shop (TMS) Star Class, two sailing single-handed and one sailing crewed respectively, one TMS Nacra 17, and one TMS Sea Boss – Rider rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea CCW (counter-clockwise) course, was made up of a majority of four TMS I-Mocca 60s. Two WildWind Open 60s, one TMS One Design 65, one WildWind RC-44r, and one TMS Ocean Beach rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.

Edit: The results for the big boat portion were incorrectly sorted and have been corrected, as well as the final results. The final first, second, and third place finishers still remain the same.

With a moderate breeze of 15 knots out of the southwest, The North Sea regions were well behaved as two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. Both DNFs, occurring one a piece in each race, were from skippers crashing as they crossed over region corners. The crowds that gathered at the lighthouses on the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, delighted in a peppy display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea 01 and North Sea 02 courses, was made up of a majority of nine Bandit 22 LTEs. Four Bandit IFs, three sailing single-handed and one crewed respectively, rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet in the first race. In the second race, a Bandit 22 LTE skipper opted to use his Bandit IF instead.

Bandit IF Regatta – Jan 14th 2023

The second North Sea Bandit IF Regetta of 2023 saw a fleet of seven Bandit IFs at the start. Two of the Bandit IFs had crew on board.

During the start of the first race, Julie immediately took the lead. Followed by Moon and Red. Siri, Juicy and Jack came over the start a little later. Juicy crashed on the way to the first mark. Julie and Siri took a different line from the other sailors, which helped Julie build her lead and Siri connected with Red and Moon. These three skippers would compete for second place. Red got real bad luck and had to retire. Bad luck had left Jack even further behind.

We started the second race with five boats. The five skippers had a good start. Julie took the lead followed by Moon, Red and Siri. Jack broke down and lost valuable time. It looked like a close race, but Red kept battling Moon. At the Kiwi region, the trio had caught up with Julie. This caused Red to take the lead, but as she sailed too close to an island, Siri saw his chance to take over the lead for good. The trio behind him continued to fight for second place. Red turned out to have the best papers here.

There were three DNFs (Did Not Finish) and no DSQs (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

One WildWind AC-45 rounded out this weeks catamaran fleet in the first race. For the second race, a Flying Shadow skipper opted to switch to his TMS Nacra 17.
