Calm seas, with a great fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. With a moderate breeze of 11 knots out of the southwest, The North Sea regions were generally well behaved for everyone as only three DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. The first two DNFs occurred during the first race, as one skipper got stripped from her boat on a region crossing while another skipper removed her boat after hitting the RC boat near the finish. The remaining DNF occurred during the second race as a skipper removed his boat after the scripts in it stopped responding. The crowds that gathered on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier in the Eden Jakana region, and on the observation deck of the lighthouse in the Ziziphus region, cheered on a spirited display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Olympic Short Reverse and North Sea WC Reach 2 courses, was made up of a majority of twelve Bandit 22 LTEs. Four Bandit IFs, three sailing crewed and one sailing single-handed respectively, and one Bandit 50/3 X rounded out the remainder of the Bandit fleet.

A stormy Saturday afternoon in May highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit IF Regatta. A storm fort gathered over the Isles of Fruit, with winds blowing from the south yet The North Sea and Fruit regions behaved reasonably well. Today, we had a fleet of seven Bandit IF’s at the start. Two of the seven Bandit IF’s were crewed.

We had two great races. However, some skippers would not enter the second race, and during the second race we had two dropouts.

We had two DNFs (Did Not Finish) and no DSQs (Disqualified) through all races and it was another successful and sporting day in The North Sea and Fruit.

Calm to choppy seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. The North Sea regions saw a fresh breeze of 18 knots out of the southwest for the first race, which saw every skipper finish on calm seas. A storm rolled in during the second race, as the wind shifted from the northwest, with four DNFs (Did Not Finish) occurring. Of those four DNFs, two were from skippers crashing while crossing over regions corners, a third was from a skipper crashing to her desktop in the middle of a region, and the remainder was from a skipper pulling her boat due to frustration. The crowds that gathered along the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, as well as on the small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, reveled in the frantic fleet-foiled frenetic frenzy on display from this weeks skippers.

This weeks first race fleet, sailing on North Sea SS-01 (Summer Sailstice), was made up of a majority of seven The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, four sailing single-handed and three sailing with crew respectively. Two WildWind AC-45s rounded out the first race fleet. Meanwhile, the second race fleet, sailing on the newly created North Sea Cat Fight 01 course, was again made up of a majority of seven TMS Flying Shadows, four sailing single-handed and three sailing crewed respectively. One TMS Nacra 17 and one WildWind AC-45 rounded out the second race fleet.

Race Notes:
Jenna (jnx1e Resident) and Daenerys (blondij Resident) both finished the first race tied at the finishing line with a time of 10:10. As their final time also remains tied, as they both sailed the same boat, Rule A7 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to score this tie:

If boats are tied at the finishing line or if a handicap or rating system is used and boats have equal corrected times, the points for the place for which the boats have tied and for the place(s) immediately below shall be added together and divided equally. Boats tied for a race prize shall share it or be given equal prizes.

Therefore, both Jenna and Daenerys receive 1.5 points, as the product for the place for which they have tied and for the place immediately below, 1 and 2, added together and divided equally.

Calm to choppy seas, a great fleet turnout, and a new boat highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The North Sea regions were behaving well for everyone during the small boat portion of the regatta as all fourteen boats in the fleet finished the course with nary a hiccup. Storm clouds started to brew during the big boat portion, however, as two DNFs (Did Not Finish) occurred, both from mishaps on a region crossing in the Citrus region. The crowd that gathered on the small race dock, in the Eden Jakana region, and along the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus, Genip, and Citrus regions, cheered on a spirited display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers.

With the great conditions during the small boat portion, also came the first race for the new Isard Sjogin. The Sjogin, a double-ender sloop from Lalia (laliacasau Resident), was released earlier in the morning before the Open Regatta. As of the publication of this post, the X version of the Sjogin, the version intended to be raced, has a preliminary handicap value of 0.60. As always, with any new boat, times run on North Sea Olympic Course (Long) will help the accuracy of the handicap. Any runs made for the Sjogin can be submitted, via notecard, to Cryptic or Daenerys. Please see North Sea Handicap Table for our handicap list and a link to the Google Sheet used to calculate those values.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on North Sea Olympic Course (Long), was made up of a majority of five Bandit 22 LTEs. Three Bandit IFs, two The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, one sailing single-handed and one sailing crewed respectively, one Bandit 25r, one Dolphin Moth, one Quest M-24, and one Isard Sjogin rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the newly created North Sea Hay course1, was made up of a small majority of four TMS I-Mocca 60s. Three WildWind Open 60s, one TMS One Design 65, one WildWind RC-44r, and one Trudeau 12 Metre rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.

A beautiful May Saturday afternoon in the North Sea and Fruit, with wind coming from the south, was the backdrop for this weeks North Sea Bandit IF Regatta. The North Sea and Fruit regions were well behaved and there was not a cloud in the sky. Today we had a fleet of ten Bandit IFs at the start. One of the ten Bandit IFs had crew.

Before the start of the first race, each skipper was given a list of landmarks and a map and they had to draw their own route on the map themselves. The start went smoothly and four skippers distanced themselves from the rest of the fleet, but it would not stay that way. In the Elderberry region, a skipper had taken on the fleet. From here skippers would each sail a different route around the island in the Ziziphus region. In the Eden Fulmar region, the order of the first five boats turned out to have been completely changed. The skipper who was now first did not relinquish this position. However, there was fight for second place right up to the finish line.

At the start of the second race we had two surprising port starts, which went just fine. As a result, we had a compact fleet and two skippers with a completely different line to the first mark. Here the paths of all skippers crossed again. The skippers probably thought “all roads lead to Rome”, because between mark two and mark three the fleet was completely spread over several regions. Arriving at the third mark, it became clear how the race would continue. We had a leader that could no longer be overtaken, with several groups behind her.

We had three DNFs (Did Not Finish) and no DSQs (Disqualified) through all races and it was another successful and sporting day in The North Sea and Fruit.

Calm to choppy seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. With a fresh breeze of 18 to 21 knots coming from the southwest, The North Sea saw generally calm conditions for most as three DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. Two of those three DNFs were due to skippers crashing while sailing across region corners. The remaining DNF was due to a skipper pulling her boat after her crew crashed on a region crossing. The crowds that gathered on the small racing dock in the Eden Jakana region, and along the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, cheered on the frenetic fleet-foiled feline frenzy on display from this weeks skippers. This weeks first race fleet, sailing on North Sea Olympic Course (Long), was made up of a majority of five The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, four sailing crewed and one sailing single-handed respectively. Three Wildwind AC-45s rounded out the first race fleet. Meanwhile, the second race fleet, sailing on the North Sea 04 course, was made up of a majority of five crewed TMS Flying Shadows. Two WildWind AC-45s, and one lone TMS Nacra 17 rounded out the second race fleet.

Note: As of the publishing of this post, the handicap values for the WildWind AC-45 and crewed The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadow have been updated. The WildWind AC-45 now has a value of 1.45, up from 1.26. The crewed TMS Flying Shadow now has a value of 1.28, up from 1.24. Please see North Sea Handicap Table for more info and a link to the Google Sheet used to calculate those values.

Choppy to smooth seas, with a great fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. With a fresh breeze of 18 knots coming from the southwest, The North Sea regions were generally behaved as only one DNF (Did Not Finish) was recorded on the day. However, the choppiness came from a bit of barging during the start of the small boat portion. After penalties were sorted and 360° turns completed, nearly everyone in the fleet finished. The lone DNF was due to a skippers connection dyeing on her just as she got within a regions length of the finish. The big boat portion had a much cleaner start and race, as every one of the fourteen strong fleet finished. The crowd that gathered on the small race dock and Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier in the Eden Jakana region, and on the lighthouse observation deck on the island in the Ziziphus region, cheered on the spirited fleet racing on display from this weeks skippers.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Half Mane course, was made up of a majority of ten Bandit 22 LTEs. Three Bandit IFs, two sailing single-handed and one sailing crewed respectively, two The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, one sailing single-handed and one sailing with crew respectively, one TMS Nacra 17, one Quest 2m, and one Dolphin Moth rounded out his weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on North Sea Olympic Course (Long), was made up of a majority of six TMS I-Mocca 60s. Four WildWind AC-45s, two WildWind Open 60s, one TMS Ushuaia, and one WildWind RC-44r rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.
