Calm seas, with a light fleet turnout, highlighted the first North Sea Open Regatta of November, 2022. With Summer Time ending for Europe this past weekend and North America ending Daylight Savings Time this upcoming weekend, Secondlife™ time is one hour earlier for those in Europe this week. As a result, this week every year gives us our lightest fleet turnouts. The North Sea regions were generally well behaved with one DNF (Did Not Finish) recorded on the day. The lone DNF, occurring during the big boat portion, was due to a skipper crashing while crossing from the Sloe region into the Sapodilla region, resulting in her boat taking a relaxing swim in our assistant race director Daenerys’ pool on her island in the Persimmon region. The crowds that gathered along the beaches on the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, and along the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on a great display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Trapezoid course, was made up of a majority of three Bandit 22 LTEs. One The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadow rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Torpedo course, was made up of a majority of two TMS I-Mocca 60s. One ACA33, and one Trudeau 12 Metre rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

On the Race Committee Boat: Cryptic. On the dock: Tamarushka. On the pier: Selene, Herius, Jud, Skylersy, Summer, Tyro, and Dee.

Calm seas, with a great fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The North Sea regions were generally behaved as four DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. Two of those DNFs, occurring during the small boat portion, were due to a corner crash and a skipper’s connection failing. The remaining two DNFs, occurring during the big boat portion, were due to two skippers pulling their boats. The crowds that gathered on the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, and on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on an exciting display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Bowline course, was made up of a triple split majority of three The Mesh Shop (TMS) Nacra 17s, three Bandit 22 LTEs, and three Bandit IFs, two sailing single-handed and one sailing crewed respectively. One TMS Flying Shadow, one crewed TMS Star Class, one TMS Laser One, one Bandit 25r, and one Dolphin Moth rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Butterfly course, was made up of a majority of five TMS I-Mocca 60s. One WildWind Open 60, one TMS Volvo Open 70, one ACA33, one WildWind RC-44r, one WildWind SC-40, and one Bandit 50/3 rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.

Big boat fleet, from the left (in boats): Anthony and Cate (TMS I-Mocca 60), Ester and Yola (TMS I-Mocca 60), Sandra (TMS Volvo Open 70), Max and Wyndi (WildWind Open 60), Julie (Bandit 50/3), Moon (TMS I-Mocca 60), Max (WildWind RC-44r), Sea (TMS I-Mocca 60), Zimtzicke and Emileigh (TMS I-Mocca 60), Aymalie (WildWind SC-40), and Max (ACA-33). On the Race Committee Boat: Cryptic. On the dock: Daenerys, and Tamarushka. On the pier: Margit, Selene, Kim, Summer, Como, and Tyro.

Today’s winner was Julie (JulieRoyale Resident), with Aymalie (Aymalie Resident) second, and Ester (citacg Resident) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate and to the SLCG for helping with racing duties.

Race Notes:
Cate (Cate Sewell) and Anthony (AnthonyKingston Resident) registered as a team prior to the start of the race, therefore their points are accredited together.

Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) was disqualified (DSQ) during the big boat portion for sailing an incorrect course, missing the first course mark, sailing south instead of north of the blue buoy in the Sapote region.

Ester (citacg Resident) was disqualified (DSQ) during the big boat portion for sailing an incorrect course, missing the sixth course mark, sailing north instead of south of the pink buoy in the Bilberry region.

Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) and Max (Max Starostin) both finished tied with 11 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Sandra (WWWAAAA Resident) and Moon (moonglownight Resident) both finished tied with 13 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Sandra’s favor with having a fifth place finish over Moon’s sixth place finish as his best.

Jenna (jnx1e Resident) and Red (RedHeadJO Resident) both finished tied with 25 points. As they both have the exact same finishes, a DNF (Did Not Finish) during the small boat portion and a DNS (Did Not Start) during the big boat portion, neither Rule A8.1 or A8.2 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing will satisfy breaking this tie. Therefore, Jenna and Red remain tied in fourteenth place overall.

Sandra (WWWAAAA Resident) was charged with a Did Not Start (DNS) during the big boat portion due to being over the startline early, before the countdown clock reached 00:00, while never going back around to record a start. This was after notification from the start line, in local chat, and notification from a race director. A prescription to all North Sea races, a skipper must go around and re-cross the line to record a proper start if they are over the line early. Failing to record a proper start results in being charged with a DNS for that race.

Jenna (jnx1e Resident), Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook), and Sea (filax Carter) all finished tied with 9 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
