Stormy seas and a nice fleet turnout featured during this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. The regions of the North Sea were well behaved except for the Sloe region. The Sloe region had an appetite for sailors, as it devoured every boat that entered it during the first race, resulting in the first race being abandoned entirely. After the Sloe region was restarted, the second race got under way to some much better sim sailing weather, with everyone finishing without a crash. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Copacabana Reverse and North Sea Butterfly courses, consisted of a majority of three The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows. At the onset of the first race, every Flying Shadow was crewed, but the second race saw things switch up as two crewed and one single-handed Flying Shadow competed. One TMS Nacra 17 made up the remainder of this weeks fleet-foiled feline fleet.

Wind: SW (225°) 21kts

Today’s winner was Daenerys (blondij Resident), with Lalia (LaliaCasau Resident) second, and Julia (JuliaSalzano Resident in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.

Race Notes:
Race 1 was abandoned due to the Sloe region crashing every racer in the fleet.

Palani () was disqualified (DSQ) during the second race for sailing an incorrect course, he missed the course mark in the Nectarine region.

As only one race was held today, final placing reflects the results from the second race without points.

Great sim sailing weather and a nice fleet turnout highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The North Sea regions behaved well as only one DNF (Did Not Finish) was recorded on the day, during the small boats portion of the regatta. The great sailing conditions enabled both fleets to put on wonderful sailing display for the spectators on the islands in the Ziziphus region and Genip region, as well as at the end of the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on North Sea Olympic Course (Long), was comprised of a small majority of four Bandit 25Rs. Three The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, two Bandit IFs, and a Shields Class made up the remainder of this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Extreme course, was comprised of a majority of four Wildwind Open 60s. One Trudeau 12 Metre, and one Wildwind AC-62 made up the remainder of this weeks big boat fleet.

Today’s winner was Julie (JulieRoyale Resident), with Isa (isab DeCuir) second, and Bianca (TgBianca Resident) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate and to the SLCG for helping with race duties.

Race Notes:
Erik (Erik Herriat) was disqualified (DSQ) during the small boat portion for sailing an incorrect course.

Nihiwatu (Nihiwatu Resident), Max (Maximiliano Szondi), and Palani (Palani Allen) all finished tied with 13 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
Nihiwatu Resident 5 8
Maximiliano Szondi 6 7
Palani Allen 6 7

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Nihiwatu’s favor with having a fifth place finish over Max’s and Palani’s sixth place finishes as their best. Subsequently, Max and Palani both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to further break this tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

Skipper Race 1 Race 2
Maximiliano Szondi 7 6
Palani Allen 6 7

In the last race, Max breaks the tie with Palani with his sixth place finish over Palani’s seventh place finish.

Red (RedHeadJO Resident) and Erik (Erik Herriat) finished tied with 16 points. As they both have the exact same finishes in each race, a ninth place finish in the small boat portions and a seventh place finish in the big boat portion from a DNS (Did Not Start), neither Rule A8.1 or Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing will break their tie. Therefore, Red and Erik remain tied in tenth place overall.

Bandit Regatta – Aug 26th 2019

The fleet rounds the green buoy in the Ziziphus region during the first race of the North Sea Bandit Regatta, on Monday, August 27th, 2019.

The fleet rounds the green buoy in the Ziziphus region during the first race of the North Sea Bandit Regatta, on Monday, August 27th, 2019.

A great fleet turnout and smooth sim sailing weather highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Manta Reverse and North Sea 01 courses, was comprised entirely of eleven Bandit IFs. Two of those Bandit IFs were sailed with crew while the rest were all single-handed. We almost had a Bandit 25r racing but Max, with Wyndi as crew, opted to use his Bandit IF at the insistence of Sirius, making it the all Bandit IF affair.

From the left (in boats): Daenerys and Sasha (Bandit IF), Jackson (Bandit IF), Laured (Bandit IF), Red (Bandit IF), Ian (Bandit IF), Margo and Knitted (Bandit IF), Max and Wyndi (Bandit 25r), Julie (Bandit IF), Sirius (Bandit IF), and Rugger (Bandit IF). On the committee boat: Joshua and Cryptic. On the dock: Maglio, Boz, Henry, Dean, and Nihiwatu.

The regions of the North Sea were well behaved as only three DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. All three DNFs were recorded during the second race. One of those DNFs was due to a skipper pulling their boat right after the start. The other two DNFs were actually due to the skippers crashing out of Secondlife.

The fleet heads out on the first leg of the North Sea 01 course during the second race of the North Sea Bandit Regatta, on August 27th, 2019.

Spectators gathered in the usual spots, on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier in the Eden Lapwing region, and along the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, as they took in some great racing from this weeks all Bandit IF fleet. It should be noted, the Poseidon Sailing Centre that stretches from the northwest corner of the Eden Curlew region into and along the shore of the Eden Lapwing region, is undergoing refurnishing to restore it to its former glory. Please bare with us as the refurnishing will take several months time. Until then, you’ll see Maddie’s prims in several states of construction until the builds final completion.

Today we had 7 Bandit IFs, including 2 with crew and 5 solo. With 6 boats that went straight across the starting line, we had a great start to the first race. Fanny quickly took the lead and behind her a group of 5 boats formed.

The start of the second race also went reasonably smoothly. Save everyone by turning first to the first buoy. At the first buoy Fanny and Tay were in the lead with Red, Ian and Siri. Fanny and Red made it increased their lead over the fleet before the rest knew.

With no DNFs (Did Not Finish) and no DSQs (Disqualified), it was another successful and sportive day in North Sea.

On the committee boat: Joshua. On the dock: Julia, and Cryptic.

Mild sim sailing weather with a light fleet turnout highlighted this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. The summer drags on to its impending end as the final vacations and holidays taken for the year show their impact on the fleet turnout. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Triple Pink and North Sea Extreme courses, was comprised of two The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows. The first race was split with one handicapped and one crewed boat, while Palani joined Rayz as crew in the second race, to make two crewed boats in the second race. The regions of the North Sea nominally behaved as Rayz was the only DNF (Did Not Finish) on the day, with his connection having issues during the second race, right after the start, with his crew, Palani, crashing at the same time. The spectators gathered on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and the small racing dock, both in the Eden Lapwing region, as well as along the shore in the Eden Albatros region, were still treated to a great display of racing from the few fleet-foiled felines that were on the water.

Mild sim sailing weather and a smaller fleet turnout highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The regions of the North Sea nominally behaved as two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day, both during the small boat portion of the regatta. The first DNF was due to a skipper being stripped from the boat on a crossing, while the other DNF was attributed to a skippers internet connection failing on them on the last leg of the race. The crowds gathered on the Poseidon Centre Spectator pier, in the Eden Lapwing region, and along the shore of beach, in the Eden Albatros region, enjoyed the great racing on display from this weeks smaller fleet turnout.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Copacabana course, was comprised of a majority of three Bandit 25Rs. One Bandit IF, one The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadow, and one Shields Class made up the remainder of the small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Olympic Mirror course, was comprised of a small majority of two Wildwind Open 60s. One TMS Volvo Open 70, one TMS One Design 65, one Bandit 50/3, and one Trudeau 12 Metre rounded out the big boat fleet.

Smooth sim sailing weather with a great fleet turnout highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The North Sea regions were generally well behaved as only two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day, both at the end of the second race as two skippers had to bow out of the race due to connection issues. The spectators gathered on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier, in the Eden Lapwing region, and along the shores of the islands in the Genip and Ziziphus regions, witnessed some great racing as the result of the great sailing weather conditions. This weeks fleet, sailing on North Sea Olympic Course (Long) and the North Sea Circle course, was comprised of a majority of eight Bandit IFs, six single-handed and two crewed respectively. Two Bandit 25Rs and one Bandit 60 made up the remainder of this weeks fleet.

On the Committee boat: Daenerys, On the pier: Brad

Today, we had 10 Bandit IFs, including 3 with crew and 7 solo. Just after the start of the first race, a storm started up east of the Ziziphus region, causing 4 boats in need. The start went fairly smoothly and after the storm a group of three boats formed that were west of the Ziziphus region, during the storm. Jack was the first to round the first buoy and stayed ahead of everyone

The start of the second race also went reasonably smoothly. Red surprised everyone, by being the first to cross the starting line and take the lead immediately after the start and then did not give up her lead. Behind her, formed a group of 5 boats.

With 4 DNFs (Did Not Finish) and no DSQs (Disqualified), it was another successful and sportive day in North Sea.

Stormy but clearing sim sailing weather highlighted this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. The regions of the North Sea and Fruit Islands were finicky for the first race as three DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded. One DNF was due to a region crash, while the other two DNFs were due to skipper navigation error and another skipper capsizing and pulling their boat in frustration. The regions behaved for the second race, however, as everyone finished with no DNFs or crashes. Spectators enjoyed the great fleet-foiled feline racing display, in spit of the early stormy weather, as they watched from the comfortable confines of the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier, in the Eden Lapwing region. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Bowline Reverse and North Sea Copacabana courses, was comprised of a majority of three The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, two single-handed and one crewed respectively. One TMS Nacra 17, and one Wildwind AC-62 made up the remainder of this weeks fleet.

Mild sim sailing weather with another nice spectator turnout highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The regions of the North Sea and Fruit Islands were generally well behaved with only three DNFs (Did Not Finish) recorded on the day. Only one of those three DNFs was due to a crash, the other two DNFs were due to a navigation HUD failure and a skippers connection resulting in both skippers pulling their boats from the race. Crowds gathered in the usual places, on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier in the Eden Lapwing region, and on the shores of the island in the Ziziphus region, to cheer on the great display put on buy today’s fleets.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Manta Reverse course, was comprised of a slim majority of four The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, two crewed and two single-handed respectively. Three Bandit 25Rs, one TMS Nacra 17, and one Shields Class made up the remainder of this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Roundabout course, was comprised of a small majority of three Wildwind Open 60s. One Wild Wind AC-62, one Bandit 50/3, one TMS Volvo Open 70, and one Trudeau 12 Metre made up the remainder of the big boat fleet.
