Calm sim sailing weather, with a nice fleet turnout, featured during this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. The regions of The North Sea were well behaved, with only one DNF (Did Not Finish) recorded on the day, as the catamaran fleet plied their sails along the western portion of estate for both races. The small crowd gathered on the race dock, in the Eden Jaeger region, and along the shores of the islands in the Eden Auk and Genip regions, reveled in the fleet-foiled feline frenzy on display from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Thornback and North Sea Barracuda courses, was comprised of a majority of three The Mesh Shop (TMS) Nacra 17s. Two TMS Flying Shadows, one sailing single-handed and one sailing with crew respectively, rounded out this weeks catamaran fleet.

With the final times shown in seconds, the tie breaks in Emileigh’s favor with having a 688.50 seconds finish over Zimtzicke’s 689.25 seconds finish. Just to note, if both skippers final times had been an exact tie, Rule A7 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing would be used to break that tie instead:

If boats are tied at the finishing line or if a handicap or rating system is used and boats have equal corrected times, the points for the place for which the boats have tied and for the place(s) immediately below shall be added together and divided equally. Boats tied for a race prize shall share it or be given equal prizes.

Calm seas, with a great fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The North Sea regions were smooth and well behaved, as three DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. Two of those DNFs were due to skippers crashing in the first race, one from a region crossing crash and one from hitting region corners. The third DNF, recorded during the second race, was from a skipper pulling his boat after being frustrated from ending up at the rear of the fleet. The crowds that gathered on the small race dock and Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier, both in the Eden Jakana region, and on the observation deck of the lighthouse on the island in the Ziziphus region, were cheering on this weeks Bandit skippers as they put on an impressive display of fleet sailing. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea 03 and North Sea 02 courses, was comprised of a majority of eight Bandit 22 LTEs. Saturday afternoon was beautiful, with good sailing weather and no thunderstorms to be seen.
This time we had eight Bandit IFs, including two with crew.

We had a great start again. Immediately after the start, one of the sailors took a different route to the first buoy and the other seven sailors stayed together as a group. Not long after, two other sailors decided to follow one boat. The fleet slowly began to stretch, creating a small group of three boats. The other five boats followed a short distance away.

The second race also had a good start and there was already a group of five boats with two boats that immediately took the lead. However, one of the two leaders took the lead and two of the followers followed the other boat to pass the first mark together with the three of them. Behind that, three boats continued to track remotely. However, when the finish line passed, five boats had reunited, however one of the boats had fallen far behind. The group of five boats slowly began to stretch again.

We had three DNFs (Did Not Finish) through both races, however it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

More pictures after the results.

Mild sim sailing weather, with another great fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The regions of the North Sea were behaved and calm for most with only three DNFs (Did Not Finish) recorded on the day, one during the first race and two during the second race respectively. The crowds on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock, in the Eden Jakana region, were cheering on this weeks Bandit skippers, as they put on a great display of fleet racing. This weeks fleet, sailing a 2 lap affair on the North Sea Short Loop course and a spin around the North Sea Manta Reverse course, was comprised of a majority of nine Bandit IFs, seven sailing single-handed and two sailing with crew respectively. Seven Bandit 22 LTEs and one Bandit 25r rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.

Edited: A skippers boat type was misidentified for the second race. This has been corrected and the results adjusted.

Race Notes:
JUN was disqualified (DSQ) during the first and second race for sailing with an incorrect race wind set.

Rugger was disqualified (DSQ) during the first race for finishing under protest while failing to complete a 360° penalty turn due to a rule 13 While Tacking foul against another skipper.

13 WHILE TACKING
After a boat passes head to wind, she shall keep clear of other boats until she is on a close-hauled course.
During that time rules 10, 11 and 12 do not apply. If two boats are subject to this rule at the same time,
the one on the other’s port side or the one astern shall keep clear.

Committee boat: Daenerys

Saturday afternoon was beautiful, with good sailing weather and no thunderstorms to be seen.
This time we had ten Bandit IFs including two with crew. A skipper dropped out before the start, leaving us with nine boats.

We had a great start again. Immediately after the start we had a leading group of two boats with five pursuers. One of the pursuers had found a tie with the two leaders at the second mark. The three of them would determine the rest of the race. At the start of the last leg, two of the front-runners had taken the lead and the third front-runner had fallen a bit behind, but then two boats joined him to compete for third place.

The second race also had a good start and there were already two groups with four boats at the start. However, the two groups came together again at the first buoy. The fleet began to stretch slowly until everyone sailed consecutively. The race director had a surprise for the sailors halfway through the race, because we had a change in wind strength and direction around the island in the Genip region.

We had one DNF (Did Not Finish) through both races, however it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

More pictures after the results.

Today’s winner was Julie (JulieRoyale Resident), with Siri (Sirius Rosca) second, and Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.

Race Notes:
Sirius (Sirius Rosca) and Rugger (Ruggeromare Resident) both finished the first race tied at the finishing line with a time of 20:27. As their final time also remains tied, as they both sailed the same boat, Rule A7 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to score this tie:

If boats are tied at the finishing line or if a handicap or rating system is used and boats have equal corrected times, the points for the place for which the boats have tied and for the place(s) immediately below shall be added together and divided equally. Boats tied for a race prize shall share it or be given equal prizes.

Therefore, both Sirius Rosca and Ruggeromare Resident receive 3.5 points, as the product for the place for which they have tied and for the place immediately below, 3 and 4, added together and divided equally.

Max (Maximiliano Szondi) and Tamar (Tamara Czervik) both finished tied with 13 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
Maximiliano Szondi 5 8
Tamara Czervik 6 7

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Max’s favor with having a fifth place finish over Tamara’s sixth place as her best.

Dunia (Dunia Moulliez) and Kim (Kim Farleigh) both finished tied with 15 points.

Mild seas, with a great fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. The regions of the North Sea were calm for most, as five DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded across both races. Of those five DNFs, two were due to skippers clipping region corners. The remaining three DNFs were due to skippers crashing. The crowd gathered on the small race dock and Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier, both in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on the fleet-foiled feline frenzy on display from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on North Sea Olympic Course (Long) and the North Sea Copacabana Reverse course, was comprised of a majority of seven The Mesh Shop (TMS) Nacra 17s. Four TMS Flying Shadows, three sailing with crew and one sailing single-handed respectively, and one Wildwind AC-45 rounded out this weeks catamaran fleet.

Choppy to calm seas, with a great fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The North Sea regions were choppy during the small boat portion of the regatta, as four DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded. Of those four DNFs, two were from skippers crashing, while the remaining two were from a skipper pulling her boat after the scripts stopped functioning, and a skipper’s internet connection failing. The seas calmed down for the big boat portion, after five finicky regions were restarted, with all 13 boats in the big boat fleet finishing with nary an issue. The crowd on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier, and along the shores of the island in the Ziziphus region, cheered on this weeks skippers as they put on a great display of tight-knit fleet racing.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Bowline Reverse course, was made up of a small majority of five The Mesh Shop (TMS) Nacra 17s. Four Bandit 22 LTEs, two Bandit IFs, one single-handed and one crewed respectively, two TMS Flying Shadows, one single-handed and one crewed respectively, one Bandit 25r, and one Quest M-24 rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Outer Inner Loop (OIL) course, was made up of a majority of seven TMS One Design 65s. Three Wildwind Open 60s, one TMS Volvo Open 70, one Wildwind AC-62, and one Wildwind RC-44r rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.

Race Notes:
Moon (moonglownight Resident) and Jenna (jnx1e Resident) both finished tied with 6 points.

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Moon’s favor with having a second place finish over Jenna’s third place finish as her best.

Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook) and Isa (isab DeCuir) both finished tied with 10 points.

Daenerys (blondij Resident) and Fanny (fannydeep Resident) both finished tied with 24 points.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
blondij Resident 10 14
fannydeep Resident 12 12

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Daenerys’s favor with having a tenth place finish over Fanny’s twelfth place finish as her best.

Palani (Palani Allen) and JUN (since20171106 Resident) both finished tied with 26 points. As they both have the exact same finishes, a DNF (Did Not Finish) in the small boat portion and a DNS (Did Not Start) in the big boat portion respectively, neither Rule A8.1 or Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing will satisfy breaking this tie. Therefore, Palani and JUN remained tied in fourteenth place overall.
