IF Star 25R Regatta – Feb 25th 2019

Turbulent sim sailing weather featured during this weeks Backwater Bay Yacht Club IF Star 25R Regatta. Specifically, one turbulent region, Farragut either ate or chewed every boat of the fleet resulting in four DNFs (Did Not Finish) across two races. This week was also Victor’s first as the sole Race Director at the helm of the race, as RL had other plans for me. All of Victor’s previous experience as a RD certainly paid off with handling unfortunate conditions that were on hand, in stride. This weeks fleet was comprised entirely of four Bandit 25Rs.

Race Director: Victor
Wind: S (180°) 18kts

Note:
Did Not Finish (DNF) = number of finish +1
Did Not Start (DNS) = number of start +1

Today’s winner was Max (Maximiliano Szondi), with Laured (laured Cabassoun) second, and Moon (moonglownight Resident) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.

Race Notes:
Max (Maximiliano Szondi) and Laured (laured Cabassoun) finished tied with 3 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

Skipper Race 1 Race 2
Maximiliano Szondi 2 1
laured Cabassoun 1 2

In the last race, Max breaks the tie with Laured with his first place finish over Laured’s second place finish.

Smooth sim sailing weather that turned choppy highlighted this weeks Backwater Bay Yacht Club Cat Fight. The regions in Bingo Strait behaved well for the first race, yet the regions of the North Channel, location of the second race, were choppy as they claimed the only two DNFs (Did Not Finish) on the day. This weeks fleet, racing on the BBYC Woodfall to Pastiche 02 and the newly created BBYC Pastiche Long Loop course, were comprised of a majority of three The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows with one lone TMS Nacra 17 as the remainder.

Race Notes:
During race 2, Astrid (AstridNewBonham Resident) missed the last mark of each lap, the west island in the Pastiche region, thereby resulting in her disqualification (DSQ) for incorrect course.

BBYC Open Regatta – Feb 20th 2019

From the left (in boats): Cole (TMS Nacra 17), Nikki (Bandit IF), Red (Bandit IF), Callie (Bandit 25r), Lilita (Bandit 25r), and Astrid (Bandit 25r). On the dock: Joshua, Cryptic, Wyndi, Max, and Xarabethe.

On the dock: Joshua, Cryptic, Wyndi, Max, and Xarabethe.

Stormy to clearing sim sailing weather and another great spectator turnout featured during this weeks Backwater Bay Yacht Club Open Regatta. The regions in Bingo Strait were up to finicky business as the two DNFs (Did Not Finish) on the day, during the small boat portion of the regatta, were the cause of repeated border disconnects. A third sailor experienced continued disconnections but through the resilience of her crew, was able to re-board her boat each time and finish both races. Meanwhile, other sailors in the fleet saw nothing but smooth seas highlighting a Jekyll and Hyde experience on the water. A great crowd of spectators, packing the committee boat dock in the Woodfall region and the pier front of the slips in the Woodfall region harbor, took it all in.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing 3 laps on the newly created BBYC Small Loop course, was comprised of a small majority of three Bandit 25Rs. Two Bandit IFs, one The Mesh Shop (TMS) Nacra 17, and one TMS Flying Shadow made up the remainder of the small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing 2 laps on the also newly created BBYC Long Loop course, was comprised of a majority of two TMS One Design 65s. One TMS Ushuaia and one Wildwind AC-45 made up the remainder of the big boat fleet.

Today’s winner was Astrid (AstridNewBonham Resident), with Callie (SheCallie Resident) second, and Cole (Colette Verino) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.

Race Notes:
During the small boats portion, Max (Maximiliano Szondi) failed to round the final mark of the course on the final lap, the green starboard buoy of the race line, incorrectly crossed the line in the wrong direction therefore resulting in a disqualification (DSQ) for incorrect course.

Callie (SheCallie Resident) and Cole (Colette Verino) finished tied with 5 points.

SheCallie Resident 3 2
Colette Verino 2 3

In the last race, Callie breaks the tie with Cole with her second place finish over Cole’s third place finish.

Red (RedHeadJO Resident), Lilita (lilita Cifuentes), and Max (Maximiliano Szondi) all finished tied with 10 points. As they all finished with the exact same finishes in each race, neither Rule A8.1 or Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing will satisfy breaking their tie. Therefore, they remain tied in fifth place overall.

On the dock: Cryptic, Laured, and Victor.

This weeks Backwater Bay Yacht Club IF Star 25R Regatta featured great sailing sim weather with some finicky course obstacles. The regions of the Bingo Strait continued their recent trend of smooth sim behavior as no DNFs (Did Not Finish) on the day were attributed to sim conditions. The DNFs that did happen, one in each race, were due to water obstacles, in both cases the ram of the LL Roman ship build in the Nimitz region. The lesson here is to prepare as much as you can before hand and learn the area you are sailing in to acclimate to the water obstacles present. This weeks fleet, sailing on the BBYC 01 and BBYC 11 courses, was comprised of a majority of three Bandit 25Rs with two Bandit IFs making up the remainder.

A great gathering of spectators turned out this week to watch a display of fun racing in smooth sailing sim weather during the Backwater Bay Yacht Club Cat Fight. Crowds continued their trend of flocking to the committee boat dock in the Woodfall region and the water front pier along the villa in the Twice Bitten region. The fleet itself responded in kind to the great sailing weather with no DNFs (Did Not Finish) on the day. This weeks fleet of catamarans, sailing on the BBYC 12 and BBYC 04 Rev 1 courses, was comprised of a majority of four The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows and one lone TMS Nacra 17.

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Daenerys’s favor with having a first place finish over Rayz’s second place finish Julnara’s third place finish as their best. Subsequently, Rayz breaks the remaining tie with his second place best finish over Julnara’s third place best finish.

BBYC Open Regatta – Feb 13th 2019

On the dock: Cryptic, Joshua, Bianca, and Rugger.

This weeks Backwater Bay Yacht Club Open Regatta saw some calm sim sailing weather with a nice fleet turnout. The regions of Bingo Strait behaved well as only one of the three DNFs (Did Not Finish) on the day was directly attributed to a bad region crossing. The other two DNFs were from both sailors pulling their boats early from sailing both an incorrect course and frustration with their own boat.

The fleet turnout this week was nice as the small boat fleet, sailing on BBYC Olympic Course (Long), was comprised of a slim majority of three The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows. Two TMS Nacra 17s, two Bandit IFs, two Bandit 25Rs, and one TMS Star Class made up the remainder of the small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the BBYC 12 course, was comprised of two TMS One Design 65s, one TMS Volvo Open 70, one TMS Ushuaia, one Wildwind Open 60, and one Wildwind AC-45.

lilita Cifuentes 7 7

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Riz’s favor with having a sixth place finish over Lilita’s seventh place finish as her best.

Rayz (Rayzza Rubble) and Ana (Ana Harcourt) both finished tied with 15 points. As both have the exact same finishes in each race, a DNF (Did Not Finish) in the small boat portion and a DNS (Did Not Start) in the big boat portion, neither Rule A8.1 or Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing will satisfy breaking their tie. Therefore, Rayz and Ana remain tied in eleventh place overall.

Stormy conditions that turned calmer featured in this weeks Backwater Bay Yacht Club IF Star 25R Regatta. The regions of Bingo Strait started out choppy as both DNFs (Did Not Finish) on the day were recorded during the first race due to crashes from poor region stability. Conditions improved dramatically for the second race as every boat in the fleet finished with reports of smooth sailing sim weather. This weeks fleet, racing on BBYC Lighthouse Race and BBYC Olympic Course (Long), was comprised of a majority of five Bandit 25Rs with one lone Bandit IF making up the remainder of the fleet.

Rough simulator conditions and a determined fleet showcased this weeks Backwater Bay Yacht Club Cat Fight. Linden Lab’s servers were having their share of issues to the point that they conducted an unplanned maintenance, see here Feb 8th Unscheduled Maintenance, to correct them during the Cat Fight. Conditions would not hold back the fleet, however, as everyone fought to finish in both races with no DNFs (Did Not Finish) on the day. The fleet, comprised of five The Mesh Shop Flying Shadows (Three crewed and two single-handed), raced on the BBYC Bowline Reverse and newly created BBYC 12 courses.

Smooth sim sailing weather and a nice fleet turnout featured during this weeks Backwater Bay Yacht Club Open Regatta. The regions of Bingo Strait and the Northern Channel fared well for sailing as only one of the three DNFs (Did Not Finish) on the day was attributed to crashing. The other other two DNFs were due to sailors pulling their boats. Enjoying the sailing conditions was a fleet of nine small boats and six big boats across both races.

This weeks small boat fleet, racing on the BBYC Woodfall to Pastiche 02 course, was comprised of a split majority of three The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows and three Bandit 25Rs. Two TMS Nacra 17s and one Bandit IF made up the remainder of the small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, racing on the BBYC Pastiche Bay 02 course, was comprised of two TMS Volvo Open 70s, one TMS Ushuaia, one TMS One Design 65, one ACA33, and one Wildwind Open 60.

Great spectator turnout and close racing featured during this weeks Backwater Bay Yacht Club IF Star 25R Regatta. Another great crowd of spectators turned up as the water front in the Twice Bitten region as well as the committee boat dock in the Woodfall region were packed. The crowds took in some great neck and neck racing between Laured and Astrid, both in bandit 25Rs, in race one and race two, until Laured crashed, receiving a DNF. Daenerys, with Sasha crewing, in her Bandit IF, also put up a tough fight against Max, with Wyndi crewing, in his Bandit IF, in race one, and against Moon, in his Bandit IF, in race two. This weeks fleet, racing on the BBYC Up and Down (2 Laps) course and BBYC Olympic Course (Short), was comprised of a majority of four Bandit 25Rs with a remainder of three Bandit IFs.

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Moon’s favor with having a third place finish over Vick’s five point finish and Rossafiore’s five point finish as their best. Subsequently, as Vick and Rossafiore both have the same finishes in each race, five point finishes in both races respectively, neither Rule A8.1 or A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing will satisfy in breaking this tie. Therefore, Vick and Rossafiore remain tied in sixth overall.
