Calm to choppy seas, with a great fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. With a fresh breeze of 18 knots out of the southwest, The North Sea regions were smooth for everyone during the small boat portion, as thirteen boats completed two laps of our Short Loop course. However, the seas grew rough during the big boat portion, with four DNFs (Did Not Finish) recorded. Of those four DNFs, three were due to skippers pulling their boats after either losing WWC wind, or script issues with their boat. The fourth DNF was due to skipper crashing while crossing over region corners. The crowds that gathered along the shores of the island in the Ziziphus region, and along the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on an energetic display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers.
This weeks small boat fleet, sailing a two lap affair on the North Sea Short Loop course, was comprised of a majority of seven Bandit 22 LTEs. Four Bandit IFs, one The Mesh Shop (TMS) Laser One, and one Quest 2m rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on North Sea Olympic Course (Long), was comprised of a majority of four TMS I-Mocca 60s. Three WildWind Open 60s, two Trudeau Runa IVs1, one TMS Ushuaia, and one Bandit 55 rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.
1The Trudeau Runa IV has had a small adjustment to it’s handicap value as of today’s regatta. It is now at 0.57, up from it’s old value of 0.56. The full handicap table as well as a link to the Google Sheets used to calculate it can be found here: North Sea Handicap Table

Race Notes:
Cate (Cate Sewell) and Anthony (AnthonyKingston Resident) registered as a team prior to the start of the race, therefore their points are accredited together.
Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) was disqualified (DSQ) during the big boat portion due to finishing while sailing an incorrect course, missing the second course mark completely, the pink buoy in the Eden Fulmar region.
Julie (JulieRoyale Resident) and Cate & Anthony (Cate Sewell & Anthony) both finished tied with 10 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.“
