This weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta featured some great racing with reasonably calm sim weather. The racing was exciting as there were several position changes at the front of the fleet in both races. The sims behaved well as there was only one DNF recorded in each race to crashes. Plus. this weeks fleets were made up entirely of Bandit IFs.

The first race, on the North Sea Triple Pink course, was the fleet get off to a speedy start as half the racers were across the start line with 8 seconds on the race clock. Daenerys and Alexandre were both first across the start line, crossing together at 00:00:04. Jackson was right on their sterns, crossing the start line next at 00:00:05. Ultra was next across the start line at 00:00:08, followed by Cor at 00:00:28, Rugger at 00:00:29, Soh at 00:00:37, and Gryfin at 00:00:38. Daenerys put up a good fight as she held the lead in the front of the fleet over the first leg of the course to the pink buoy in the Sloe region. Alexandre and Jackson were both right on her stern though and soon both made moves to pass her as they raced along the second leg to the white buoy in the Eden Puffin region. Ultra settled in just aft of the front three in the fleet. Cor unfortunately crashed and recorded a DNF. Rugger took up position aft of Ultra but wound up missing the fifth course mark and was disqualified(DSQ) for racing an incorrect course. Soh settled into position towards the rear of the fleet, with Gryfin taking up the rear. Alexandre crossed the finish line first, taking line honors, with Jackson crossing the second. Daenerys was next across the finish line followed by Ultra, Soh, and Gryfin.

The second race, on the North Sea Trapezoid course, saw the entire fleet across the start line as 28 seconds ticked off the race clock. Gryfin took a gamble and started on a port-tack, with the rest of the fleet all on starboard-tacks, crossing the start line at 00:00:01. Gryfin’s port-tack gamble did not pay off, however, as he fouled four boats on the course side of the race line, all on starboard-tacks as his boat either forced them off course or collided with their bows (Rule 10*). Alexandre was next to cross the start line, at 00:00:02, followed by Daenerys at 00:00:03, Ultra at 00:00:08, Jackson at 00:00:12, Red at 00:00:13, Moon at 00:00:16, Rugger at 00:00:21, and Soh at 00:00:28. Gryfin continued on his port-tack course, heading west from the Breadnut region, however he was subsequently disqualified for finishing the race and failing to complete a 360° penalty turn for his Rule 10 foul after the start. Alexandre took advantage of his quick start and gained the lead by the time he rounded the first course mark, the green buoy south of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region. Jackson and Daenerys were both right on Alexandre’s stern, as they both battle neck and neck for position. Ultra settled in just aft of Jackson and Daenerys. Red unfortunately crashed and recorded a DNF. Moon took up position just aft of Ultra followed by Rugger and Soh. Alexandre held his lead and crossed the finish line first, taking line honors as Jackson crossed the finish line second, with Deanerys a very close third. Ultra crossed the finish line next, followed by Moon, Rugger, and Soh.

*Rule 10 – Right of Way – On Opposite Tacks:
When boats are on opposite tacks, a port-tack boat shall keep clear of a starboard-tack boat.

This weeks Trudeau Patchogue II class races featured great sim weather with some really spirited racing. The sims behaved themselves well with no DNFs or crashes on the day. We also saw a nice turnout of spectators, as people gathered along the shore in the Eden Albatros region and also along the beaches of Lighthouse Isle, in the Ziziphus region, to watch the fleet on both courses. Petra was to direct this race but circumstances out of her control tied her up and I directed the race in her place. We would also like to welcome Ellem to racing in SL as these were her first races as a skipper.

The first race, on the North Sea Breadnut to Eden Auk course, saw the fleet get off to a great start as all 5 boats were across the start line as 26 seconds ticked off the race clock. Ellem started her race career off well, getting the fleet started as she crossed the start line at 00:00:03. Burton was next to cross the start line at 00:00:15, followed by Red, crossing at 00:00:24. Cor and Neil were next across the start line, crossing together at 00:00:26. The fleet stayed tightly packed along the first leg to the first course mark, the green buoy south of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region. Red made her move, after rounding the course mark, and passed Cor, as Neil, Ellem, and Burton followed. Red held onto her small lead as she crossed the finish line, in the Eden Auk region, first, followed by Cor, crossing second. Neil crossed the finish line next, in third, followed by Ellem, crossing in fourth, and Burton, crossing in fifth.

The second race, on the North Sea Eden Auk to Breadnut course, saw the wind change for the fleet, from the 225°(SW) 18 knots of the first race to 135°(SE) 18 knots. This time Cor got things started for the fleet, as he crossed the start line at 00:00:12. Burton was next to cross the start line at 00:00:17, followed by Neil, crossing at 00:00:20, Red, crossing at 00:00:22, and Ellem, crossing at 00:00:53. Cor kept on a starboard tack, heading east and then finally tacking south, in the Eden Albatros sim, while the rest of the fleet tacked to port in the Eden Fulmar region, heading south early. Red lead the fleet that tacked south early, followed by Neil, Ellem, and Burton, who fell back after getting stuck in irons as he tacked. As everyone converged ont he first course mark, the green buoy south of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region, Cor and Red met up at the mark, both side by side as the cleared the mark, with Neil right on their stern. Red, Cor, and Neil remained tightly packed as they all approached the second course mark, the pink buoy in the Eden Fulmar region, with Cor coming out slightly ahead after all three rounded the mark. Ellem followed just to the rear with Burton closing in behind her. Ellem’s lead over Burton slipped as Burton passed her on the final leg to the finish line. Cor would hold his slight lead as he crossed the finish line first, followed by Red in second, Neil crossing third, Burton in fourth, and Ellem in fifth.

On the dock: Penny, Rei, Ultra, Elbag, Connie, Ellem, and Petra.

Slightly stormy sims that cleared up late featured in this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The sims were a bit choppy for the small boats race, claiming four to DNFs in the small boat race, but the weather cleared for big boats with no DNFs as a result. Crowds of spectators continued the trend of great turn outs in the North Sea for races, as the Eden Puffin, Eden Albatros, and Ziziphus sims were packed with people watching. We also saw a great turnout of racers with 15 boats in the small boat fleet and 12 boats in the big boat fleet.

The small boat fleet, racing on the North Sea Triple Pink course, was made up of a majority of six Bandit IFs. Five TMS Flying Shadows, with one crewed, a Dolphin Moth, a Bandit 25, a TMS Nacra 17, and a Shields Class rounded out the remainder of the small boat fleet. The fleet saw a fast start as 13 of the 15 racers were across the start line as 28 seconds ticked off the race clock. Daenerys, in her TMS Flying Shadow with Minna as crew, got things started as she crossed the start line at 00:00:01 followed right behind by myself, on my Dolphin Moth, at 00:00:02. Alexandre was right on my stern, in his Bandit IF, crossing the start line at 00:00:03, followed by Ultra, in his Bandit IF, crossing the start line at 00:00:04. Lucy, in her Shields Class, was across the start line next at 00:00:06. Red, in her Bandit IF, and Beane, in her TMS Flying Shadow, both crossed the start line next at 00:00:08. Alice, in her Bandit IF, was across the start line next at 00:00:14, followed by Moon, in his TMS Nacra 17, crossing at 00:00:15. Viv, in her TMS Flying Shadow, crossed the start line next at 00:00:22, followed by Neil, in his Bandit IF, crossing at 00:00:25. Shau, in her Bandit 25, and Rugger, in his Bandit IF, were both across the start line next at 00:00:28. Palani, in his TMS Flying Shadow, was across the start line next at 00:00:39, followed by Laured, in her TMS Flying Shadow, crossing at 00:00:53. I quickly leapt out to the lead of the fleet, in my quicker Dolphin Moth, as Daenerys, in her TMS Flying Shadow with Minna, settled in behind me. Viv, in her TMS Flying Shadow, made moves up through the fleet to nip at Daenerys’s stern. Moon, in his TMS Nacra 17, also made moves through the fleet to settle in just behind Viv as Laured, in her TMS Flying Shadow, worked her way into position behind Moon. Shau, in her Bandit 25, settled in at the center of the fleet as Palani, in his TMS Flying Shadow, followed closely behind her. Alexandre, in his Bandit IF, lead the IF pack in the fleet, with Neil, Red, and Ultra, all in Bandit IFs, following closely behind. Lucy, in her Shields Class, Beane, in her TMS Flying Shadow, Alice and Rugger, both in Bandit IFs, all succumbed to crashes and unfortunately recorded DNFs. I held on to the pack lead and crossed the finish line first, followed by Daenerys, with Minna, crossing the finish line in second. Viv crossed the finish line next followed by Moon, Laured, Shau, Palani, Alexandre, Neil, Red, and Ultra.

The big boat fleet, racing on the North Sea Copacabana course, was made up of a majority of six TMS One Design 65s. Two Wildwind Open 60s, two TMS Ushuaias, and two Quest IACCs made up the remainder of the big boat fleet. The big boat fleet saw just as fast a start as the small boat fleet, with 9 of the 12 racers crossing the start line as 28 seconds ticked off the race clock. Beane, in her TMS One Design 65, got things started as she crossed the start line at 00:00:03. Lucy, in her Quest IACC, was next to cross the start line at 00:00:05, followed by Kayo, in her One Design 65, crossing at 00:00:06. Rugger, in his Wildwind Open 60, was next to cross the start line at 00:00:07. I along with Laured, both in TMS One Design 65s, crossed the line together next at 00:00:11, followed by Viv, in her TMS One Design 65, at 00:00:20. Gryfin, in his Wildwind Open 60, was next to cross the start line at 00:00:22, followed by Moon, in his Quest IACC, crossing at 00:00:28. Palani, in his TMS One Design 65, crossed the start line next 00:00:36, followed by Ultra, in his TMS Ushuaia, crossing at 00:00:37, and Neil, in his TMS Ushuaia, crossing at 00:00:39. Beane, in her TMS One Design 65, took advantage of her great start, leading the fleet for the duration of the course. Viv, in her TMS One Design 65, made moves through the fleet to settle in behind Beane, as I, in my own TMS One Design 65, followed behind Viv. Kayo, in her TMS One Design 65, settled in next in the fleet, followed by Gryfin, in his Wildwind Open 60. Laured, in her TMS One Design 65, took up position in the middle of the fleet. Lucy, in her Quest IACC, fell slightly from her quick start to settle in behind Laured. Palani, in his TMS One Design 65, took up position behind Lucy, followed by Moon, in his Quest IACC, and Rugger, in his Wildwind Open 60. Neil, in his slowed TMS Ushuaia, took up position towards the rear of the fleet followed by Ultra, in his TMS Ushuaia. Beane, holding onto her lead, crossed the finish line first, followed by Viv, crossing second. I crossed the finish line next followed by Kayo, Gryfin, Laured, Lucy, Palani, Moon, Rugger, Neil, and Ultra.

Race Notes:
Shau (ShauIa Resident) and Laured (laured Cabassoun) both finished tied with 16 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
ShauIa Resident 4 12
laured Cabassoun 7 9

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Shau’s favor with having a fourth place finish over Laured’s seventh place finish as her best.

Lucy (LucyInTheSky Afarensis) and Alice (alice8200 Resident) both tied with 24 points. As they both have identical finishes in both races, neither Rule A8.1 or Rule A8.2 will satisfy breaking their tie, therefore they remain tied in fifteenth place.

Smooth sim weather, a large spectator turn out, and exciting sailing featured in this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The sims behaved extremely well as no DNFs were recorded due to crashes in either race. Spectator turn out was also great as viewers flocked to the shore in the Eden Albatros region and along the beaches of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region. The sailing itself was exciting as things got bumpy in race two but everyone recovered well. This weeks fleet was again comprised of a majority of ten Bandit IFs with one lone Bandit 25. We would also like to welcome Soh, who was racing in his first set of races in the North Sea.

The first race, on the NS-SOL-13A course, saw the racers off to a speedy start as six of the nine boats in the fleet were over the start line as 28 seconds ticked off the race clock. Jackson got things started, crossing the start line at 00:00:03. Bianca, in the lone Bandit 25, was next to cross the start line at 00:00:07. Ultra followed along next across the start line at 00:00:18. Neil was next to cross the start line at 00:00:22 followed by Red at 00:00:24 and Daenerys at 00:00:28. Soh was next across the start line at 00:00:54 followed by Alexandre at 00:01:00 and Rugger at 00:01:07. Bianca, in her quicker Bandit 25, sped to the lead in the fleet with Red making moves through the fleet and settling in behind Bianca. Daenerys followed along on Red’s stern to also move up through the fleet. Alexandre made some of his own moves to pass through to fleet, settling in right behind Daenerys. Neil took up position in the middle of the fleet with Jackson, who fell off his great start, settling in behind Neil. Ultra took up position towards the rear of the fleet, falling back from his quick start, followed by Rugger and Soh. Bianca held her lead and crossed the finish line first, taking line honors as Red crossed the finish line second behind her. Daenerys was next to cross the finish line followed by Alexandre, Neil, Jackson, Ultra, Rugger, and Soh.

The second race, on the NS-SOL-13B course, saw the fleet off to another quick but albeit somewhat bumpy start as nine of the eleven boat fleet were across the start line as 30 seconds ticked off the race clock. Soh got things started crossing the start line at 00:00:01 followed by Ultra on his stern, crossing at 00:00:04. Bianca, once again in the lone Bandit 25, crossed the start line next at 00:00:6 followed by Red, right on her stern, at 00:00:07. Bianca immediately tacked to port after crossing the start line and started a chain reaction colliding with Red which subsequently delayed Daenerys, Jackson, and Alexandre as they crossed the start line and tried to avoid colliding with Red and Bianca. Bianca was charged with a rule 13* foul and completed a 360° penalty when she was clear of fleet traffic. Daenerys crossed the start line finally at 00:00:13 followed by Jackson at 00:00:15, and Alexandre at 00:00:17. Julia crossed the start line next at 00:00:27, followed by Moon at 00:00:30, Neil at 00:00:55, and Rugger at 00:00:57. Alexandre, Jackson, and Daenerys all recovered well from the bumpy start, as Alexandre made his way to the front of the fleet, passing Ultra who settled in behind Alxandre. Jackson moved up through the fleet, settling in behind Ultra, as Daenerys nipped at his stern. Neil made moves of his own through the fleet and took up position behind Daenerys. Julia settled in just aft of Neil as Moon took up position near the rear of the fleet followed by Soh, who fell off his great start, and then Rugger. Red, after battling to recover from the bumpy start, ultimately abandoned the race and recorded a DNF. Bianca, after completing her penalty turn, tried to continue the race but her connection dropped resulting in her recording a DNF. Alexandre held on to his lead and crossed the finish line first, taking line honors. Ultra crossed the finish line second followed by Jackson, Daenerys, Neil, Julia, Moon, Soh, and Rugger.

* Rule 13: WHILE TACKING
After a boat passes head to wind, she shall keep clear of other boats until she is on a close-hauled course. During that time rules 10, 11 and 12 do not apply. If two boats are subject to this rule at the same time, the one on the other’s port side or the one astern shall keep clear. Source: The Racing Rules of Sailing 2017-2020

ruggeromare Resident 8 9

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Moon’s favor with having a seventh place finish over Soh’s and Rugger’s eighth place finishes as there best. Soh and Rugger remain tied and as they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

North Sea Open Regatta – July 12th 2017

This weeks North Sea Open Regatta saw some great sim weather with a tremendous turn out of racers. The sims behaved well as there were only 3 DNFs on the day for both races combined. We had a great turnout as 16 racers were in the small boat fleet. Spectator turnout was good as both Lighthouse Isle, in the Ziziphus region, and the shore in the Eden Alabatros region saw a huge crowd along with the spectators on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier, in the Eden Puffin region, and the committee boat dock, in the Breadnut Region.

Also a small apology as I was not able to attend today’s races so this results post write-up section will be slightly abridged from my usual results posts.

The small boat fleet, racing a 3 lap affair on the North Sea Short Loop course, was made up of a majority of six Bandit IFs. The remainder of the small boat fleet was made up of four Flying Shadows (two crewed), two Quest Melges-24s, two Shields Class, a Bandit 25, and a Breezy 9er (which we do not have a handicap for and is notated as Not Available (N/A) in the results table).

The big boat fleet, racing on the North Sea Outer Inner Loop (NS-OIL Rev1) course, was made up of a split majority of three Quest IACCs and three Wildwind Open 60s. A Wildwind RC-44, a Wildwind AC-45, a TMS One Design 65, and a TMS Ushuaia made up the remainder of the big boat fleet.

Smooth seas with light winds building to heavier winds featured in this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. This was our monthly ‘There and Back Again’ series of races between both race lines in the North Sea, in the Breadnut and Eden Auk regions. The sims behaved themselves excellently as no DNFs to crashes were recorded. The wind started out fairly light for the first race but picked up for the second race. This weeks fleet featured a majority of eleven Bandit IFs with one lone Bandit 25. We also had a nice turnout of spectators in the usual spots in the Eden Albatros, Eden Puffin, Ziziphus, and Breadnut regions. We would also like to congratulate Shriurra, who raced in her first two races in her new Bandit IF.

The first race, on the Breadnut to Eden Auk course, saw the fleet entirely made up of Bandit IFs. The wind was light at 11 knots and out of the southwest. The fleet got off to a paced start as half of the racers were over the start line as 35 seconds ticked off the race clock. Jackson got things started as he crossed the start line first at 00:00:06. Alice followed suit, crossing the start line at 00:00:09 followed by Alexandre at 00:00:19. Ultra was next to cross the start line at 00:00:23. Red was across the start line next at 00:00:34 with Neil right on her stern, crossing at 00:00:35. Rugger was next to cross the start line at 00:00:59, followed by Daenerys at 00:01:03, Elbag at 00:01:08, Moon at 00:01:15, and Shriurra, racing in her first race, at 00:02:16. Jackson took advantage of his great start and held onto the pack lead for the duration of the course. Alice was right behind Jackson, on his stern the entire course. Alexandre and Ultra had a great battle as they raced neck and neck with Ultra ultimately coming out ahead. Red was just behind with Neil just aft of her the whole course. Daenerys settled in next with Moon behind her. Rugger fell back in the fleet, settling behind Moon. Shriurra took up the rear of the fleet. Elbag was right on the stern Deanerys and Rugger on the first leg, but RL grabbed him, causing him to abandon the race and record a DNF. Jackson crossed the finish line first, taking line honors. Alice crossed the finish line second followed by Ultra, Alexandre, Red, Neil, Daenerys, Moon, Rugger, and Shriurra.

The second race, on the Eden Auk to Breadnut course, saw the inclusion of the lone Bandit 25 in the fleet. The wind picked up at 18 knots and changed direction, coming from the southeast. The fleet got off to a slightly slower start with half the fleet across the line as 52 seconds ticked off the race clock. Ultra got things started, as he crossed the start line at 00:00:!2. Moon was next to cross the start line at 00:00:21 followed by Daenerys at 00:00:30. Alexandre was across the start line next 00:00:35 followed by Bianca, in the lone Bandit 25, crossing at 00:00:49. Gryfin was next to cross the start line at 00:00:52 followed by Jackson at 00:00:55, Neil at 00:00:57, Alice at 00:01:00, Red at 00:01:16, Rugger at 00:01:19, and Shriurra at 00:01:22. Ultra held onto his great for a majority of the course but could not hold off Alexandre who made several moves through the fleet to overtake the lead. Moon fell back settling into the middle of the fleet from his great start. Daenerys also fell back in the fleet, settling in just aft of Alice and Moon. Bianca, in the lone Bandit 25, saw her WiFi connection drop and ultimately recorded a DNF. Gryfin slid back into the fleet, settling in behind Daenerys. Jackson and Neil were in a nice position battle as they both made moves to gain in the fleet. Neil came out slightly ahead as both settled in right behind Red, towards the front of the fleet. Alice picked up two spots from her starting position as she battled Moon throughout the race. Rugger and Shriurra both took up positions at the rear of the fleet. Alexandre was across the finish line in first, taking line honors. Ultra crossed the finish line second, followed by Red, Neil, Jackson, Moon, Alice, Daenerys, Gryfin, Rugger, and Shriurra.

Trudeau Patch II Class Racing – July 6th 2017

This weeks Trudeau Patchogue II class races saw some nice sim weather with great racing. The sims behaved themselves and we saw no crashes on the day. We also saw a nice turnout of spectators, continuing a trend for all our races in the North Sea, as people gathered along the shore in the Eden Albatros region and also along the beaches of Lighthouse Isle, in the Ziziphus region, to watch the fleet on both courses.

Petra was to direct this race but a thunderstorm in her area decided otherwise as her connection would not hold for her. I directed the race in her place. In the rush, I neglected to take a photo for our results post.

This was also Rugger’s first day owning a Trudeau Patchogue II and first race in one. He’s recently been infected with the sailing and racing bug and we are really happy to see him enjoying different boats.

On the dock: sohaiden, Penny, Daenerys, Petra, and Cryptic.

This weeks North Sea Open Regatta saw some really nice sailing weather and a nice turn out for both fleets. The sims behaved as we only had one DNF registered in each race. Sailor turn out was nice as well, as the small boat fleet saw thirteen racers and the big boat fleet saw eight. Spectators flocked to the usual spots along the shore of the Eden Albatros region, on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier in the Eden Puffin region, along the shores of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region, and on the committee boat dock itself in the Breadnut region.

The small boat fleet, racing on the NS-CCW course, was comprised of a majority of seven Bandit IFs. The remainder of the small boat fleet was made up of two TMS Flying Shadows, two TMS Nacra 17s, a Quest Melges-24, and a Trudeau Leetle Cat II. The race set off to a fast start as eleven of the thirteen in the fleet crossed the start line as 29 seconds ticked off the race clock. Lucy, in her Quest Melges-24, was the first across the start line at 00:00:01. Alice and Jackson, both in Bandit IFs, were both right on her stern, crossing together at 00:00:02. Beane, in her TMS Flying Shadow, was next to cross the start line at 00:00:08. Red, in her Bandit IF, was across the start line next at 00:00:18 followed by Bianca, in her TMS Nacra 17, crossing at 00:00:20. Moon, in his TMS Nacra 17, was next to cross the start line at 00:00:23, with Viv, in her TMS Flying Shadow, and Ultra, in his Bandit IF, both on her stern, crossing at 00:00:24. Neil, in his Bandit IF, was next across the start line at 00:00:27, followed by Lampoon, in his Trudeau Leetle Cat II, at 00:00:29. Mixorroxim, in her Bandit IF, was across the start line next at 00:01:01 followed by Rugger, in his Bandit IF, crossing at 00:01:49. Lucy, in her Quest Melges-24, took advantage of her great start and paced the fleet for the entirety of the race. Alice and Jackson, both in slower Bandit IFs, fell back slightly as the ViV and Beane, in their faster TMS Flying Shadows, passed them to settle in behind Lucy. Red, in her Bandit IF, passed Jackson to settle in behind Alice. Bianca, in her TMS Nacra 17, unfortunately had connection issues, crashed recorded a DNF. Moon, in his Nacra 17, fell back behind both Ultra and Neil, in their Bandit IFs. Lampoon, in his Trudeau Leetle Cat II, settled in at the rear of the fleet with Mixorroxim and Rugger, both in Bandit IFs, just behind him. Lucy held her lead and crossed the finish line first, recording line honors. Beane crossed the finish line second, followed by ViV, Alice, Red, Jackson, Neil, Ultra, Moon, Lampoon, Mixorroxim, and Rugger.

The big boat fleet, racing on the recently created North Sea Triple Pink course, was comprised of a majority of four Wildwind RC-44s. The remainder of the big boat fleet was made up of a Wildwind AC-45, a Wildwind Open 60, a TMS One Design 65, and a TMS Ushuaia. The big boat fleet got off to a great start as every sailor was across the start line as 32 seconds ticked off the race clock. Phil and Moon, both in Wildwind RC-44s, and Rugger, in a Wildwind Open 60, crossed the start line first together at 00:00:04. Lucy, in her Wildwid RC-44, was next to cross the line at 00:00:07. Cor, in his Wildwind RC-44, was across the start line next at 00:00:09. John, in his TMS One Design 65, was next to cross the start line at 00:00:14. Laured, in her Wildwind AC-45, was across the start line next at 00:00:16 followed by Neil, in his TMS Ushuaia, crossing at 00:00:32. The quick start by Phil, Moon, and Rugger did not dampen the competition they faced on the course, as several lead changes happened in the front pack of Phil (RC-44), Moon (RC-44), Rugger (OP-60), Lucy (RC-44), Cor (Rc-44) and Laured (AC-45). Laured, in her Wildwind AC-45, wound up taking the lead on the final leg of the course only to crash as she neared the finish line, resulting in a DNF. Phil, in his Wildwind RC-44, held onto his position and wound up settling in just to Laured’s stern. Lucy, in her Wildwind RC-44, was right on Phil’s stern, battling the whole way. Rugger, in his Wildwind Open 60, fell back several positions, as Cor, in his Wildwind RC-44, took advantage and passed Rugger to settle in just behind Lucy. John, in his TMS One Design 65, also took advantage and made a move to pass Rugger, in his Wildwind RC-44, on the final leg. Neil, in his slower TMS Ushuaia, settled in at the rear of the fleet. Phil crossed the finish line first, taking line honors, with Lucy crossing the finish line second, right on his stern. Moon crossed the finish line third, followed by Cor, John, Rugger and Niel.

Phil (RC-44), Lucy (RC-44), Moon (RC-44), Laured (AC-45), Cor (RC-44), Rugger (OP-60), and John (OD-65) round the course mark for North Sea Triple Pink course, in the Eden Puffin region, during the North Sea Open Regatta on Wednesday, July 5th, 2017.

The sims behaved well for the first race, as only one DNF due to a crash was recorded. However, the sims turned a little choppy during the second race as two of the three DNFs recorded were due to crashes. This weeks fleet was made up of a majority of 13 Bandit IFs with one lone Bandit 25. Spectators lined the usual spots in the Eden Albatros, Eden Puffin, Breadnut, and Ziziphus regions.

The first race, on the recently created North Sea Bowline course, saw the fleet off to an excellent start as 11 of the 14 racers were across the start line by the time 33 seconds ticked off the race clock. Daenerys was off to a perfect start as she crossed the start line at 00:00:00. Jackson was right behind Daenerys, crossing the line at 00:00:02, with Alice right on his stern at 00:00:03. Alexandre was next across the start line at 00:00:04 followed by Neil at 00:00:07. Ultra was across the start line next at 00:00:10 followed by Bianca, in the lone Bandit 25, at 00:00:16. Kayo, with Laured as crew, was next across the start line at 00:00:18 followed by Red at 00:00:24. Macz was next to cross the start line at 00:00:28, followed by Rugger at 00:00:33. Mixorroxim was across the start line next at 00:01:47, followed by Baz, at 00:02:09, and Moon, at 00:03:42. Daenerys’s start was not enough to hold off Alexandre as he slipped up through the fleet, passing Alice and Jackson as they both slipped back in the fleet. Bianca, in her faster Bandit 25, made moves through the fleet, after an initial barging call that saw her do a 360° penalty turn, to pace the fleet from the front. Macz and Red would also both make moves up through the fleet as Red settled in right behind Daenerys, and Macz took up behind Jackson. Ultra and Kayo, with Laured as crew, settled in at the middle of the fleet. Moon, a late arrival and starter, took up ahead of the rear pack of Rugger, mixorroxim, and Baz. Neil unfortunately crashed and recorded a DNF. Bianca held her lead and crossed the finish line first, followed by Alexandre, as the first Bandit IF to cross the finish line. Daenerys was next to cross the finish line followed by Red, Jackson, Macz, Alice, Ultra, Kayo with Laured, Moon, Rugger, mixorroxim, and Baz.

The second race, on the North Sea Trapezoid course, saw the fleet on a more paced start as half the fleet was across the start line by the time 30 seconds ticked off the race clock. Daenerys was once got things started as she crossed the start line at 00:00:05. Alice was next to cross the start line at 00:00:11 followed by Bianca, on the lone Bandit 25, at 00:00:12. Kayo, with Laured as crew, was next to cross the start line at 00:00:14 followed by Moon at 00:00:20. Jackson was across the start line next at 00:00:24 with Macs right behind at 00:00:30. Ultra was next to cross the start line at 00:00:36 followed by Neil at 00:00:43. Rugger was across the start line next at 00:00:52, followed by mixorroxim, at 00:01:29, Alexandre, at 00:01:30, and Red, at 00:01:55. Daenerys seized her great start to maintain her pace of the Bandit IFs as Bianca, in her faster Bandit 25, lept to the front of the fleet with a sizeable lead. Alice fell back to settle into the middle of the fleet as Kayo, with Laured as crew, took up position right behind Daenerys. Macz made moves to pass Jackson and Moon, settling in behind Kayo. Alexandre also made moves, coming from the rear of the starting pack to take up position behind Macz. Red settled in just behind Alice, with Neil and Moon right behind her. Ultra, Rugger, and mixorroxim all unfortunately recorded DNFs. Bianca held her sizable lead and crossed the finish line first, followed by Daenerys. Kayo, with Laured as crew, was next to cross the finish line followed by Macz, Alexandre, Jackson, Alice, Red, Neil, and Moon.
