Smooth sailing weather and a great turnout featured in this weeks Backwater Bay Yacht Club Open Regatta. The Bingo Strait regions continued their streak of calm sailing weather as only one DNF (Did Not Finish) was recorded on they day, however it was not do to crashing. The spectator turnout was also great as crowds were gathered at both the front pier area in the Twice Bitten region, and the spectator area along the western edge of the marina slips in the Woodfall region.
This weeks small boat fleet, racing on BBYC Olympic Course (Long), was comprised of a majority of four The Mesh Shop (TMS) Star Class. Two TMS Flying Shadows, two Bandit 25Rs, one Bandit IF, one TMS Nacra 17, and one Trudeau Patchogue II made up the remainder of the small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, racing on the BBYC 06 course, was comprised of a majority of four TMS One Design 65s. Two Wildwind Open 60s, one TMS Volvo Open 70, one Wildwind RC-44r, and one Trudeau 12 Metre made up the remainder of the big boat fleet.

Sandra (WWWAAAA Resident), Lalia (LaliaCasau Resident), and Laured (laured Cabassoun) all finished tied with 9 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.“

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Sandra’s favor with having a second place finish over Lalia’s and Laured’s fourth place best finishes. Subsequently, to further break the tie between Lalia and Laured as they have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used:
“If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.“

In the last race, Lalia breaks the tie with Laured with her fourth place finish over Laured’s fifth place finish.
Palani (Palani Allen), Michael (Lycan1269 Resident), and Csilla (Csilla Ezarael) all finished tied with 20 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
