This weeks North Sea Bandit IF Regatta took place on a beautiful winter Saturday afternoon. With the wind coming from the southwest, The North Sea regions behaved well and there was not a cloud in the sky. Today we had a fleet of thirteen Bandit IFs at the start. Six of the thirteen Bandit IFs had crew.
We had two great races. In the first race, the fleet spread across the North Sea immediately after the start to pass the first mark as groups of two boats. Several groups of four boats had already been formed by the passage of the second mark.
In the second race, we had a compact fleet of 12 boats from the start. After the race progressed, several small groups were formed.
We had three DNFs (Did Not Finish) and no DSQs (Disqualified) through all races and it was another successful and sporting day in The North Sea.
More pictures after the results.

Race Notes:
Red (RedHeadJO Resident) and Emi (Emileigh Starbrook) finished tied with 13 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.“
Skipper | Race 1 | Race 2 |
RedHeadJO Resident | 8 | 5 |
Emileigh Starbrook | 5 | 8 |
In the last race, Red breaks the tie with Emi with her fifth place finish over Emi’s eighth place finish.
Kiki (Kei Frequency), Justin (SteveLL Resident), and Amy (Montserrat Naidoo) all finished tied with 17 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.“
Skipper | Best Finish | Next Best Finish |
Kei Frequency | 6 | 11 |
SteveLL Resident | 6 | 11 |
Montserrat Naidoo | 7 | 10 |
With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Kiki’s and Justin’s favor with having sixth place finishes over Amy’s seventh place finish as her best. As Kiki and Justin both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this remaining tie:
“If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.“
