Bandit Regatta – June 29th 2020

Great sim sailing weather and large fleet turnout highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The North Sea regions were well behaved and smooth for everyone as the only DNF (Did Not Finish) on the day was due to a skipper sailing into region corners. Everyone else in the fleet, two races full of 18 boats each, finished. The spectators that flocked to the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier, in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on this weeks skippers as they put on a great display of fleet racing. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Trapezoid and North Sea Manta courses, was comprised of a majority of ten Bandit 22 LTEs. Six Bandit IFs, four sailing single-handed and two sailing with crew respectively, and two Bandit 25Rs rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.

Race Notes:
Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) and UL (ultramantra Resident) both finished the second race tied at the finishing line with a time of 14:40. As their final time also remains tied, as they both sailed the same boat, Rule A7 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to score this tie:

“If boats are tied at the finishing line or if a handicap or rating system is used and boats have equal corrected times, the points for the place for which the boats have tied and for the place(s) immediately below shall be added together and divided equally. Boats tied for a race prize shall share it or be given equal prizes.“

Therefore, both Zimtzicke and UL receive 3.5 points, as the product for the place for which they have tied and for the place immediately below, 3 and 4, added together and divided equally.

Jackson (Jacquimo Resident) and Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) both finished tied with 22 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

“If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.“

“If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.“

Bandit IF Races – June 27th 2020

Saturday afternoon started as a beautiful day. However, during the races, a number of thunderstorms arose over Eden Gateway. This time we had seven Bandit IFs, including one with crew.

We had a great start. Immediately after the first buoy, the fleet spread out to find the best route through Eden. However, two skippers lost track and both missed the fourth mark.

The second race went better and again was a nice race. Two skippers took the lead from the start and fought neck and neck. On the way to the fourth mark, one skipper got lost and the other fell out of his boat, leading the next skipper to take the lead.

We had two DSQs (disqualified) and five DNFs (Did Not Finish) through both races, however it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

Race Notes:
Dream (Dream Miller) and Ultra (UltraMantra) where disqualified (DSQ) during the first race for sailing an incorrect course. They sailed east of the island in the Eden Sparrow region, the fourth mark on the course, instead of west of the island, as indicated for the course.

Rugger (ruggeromare Resident), Moon (moonglownight Resident), and Julie (JulieRoyale Resident) all finished tied with 5 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

As they both have the exact same finishes, finishing with a five point finish during the first race and a four point finish during the second race respectively, neither Rule A8.1 or Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing will satisfy breaking their tie. Therefore, Dream and Jack remain tied in sixth place overall.

Stormy seas, that cleared late, and a nice fleet turnout highlighted this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. The North Sea regions were choppy as a virtual storm appeared to roll through the estate, with six DNFs (Did Not Finish) recorded in the first race, all due to skippers crashing. The second race fared much better, as the seas calmed with only two DNFs recorded. One of those DNFs was due to a skipper pulling her boat after her crew crashed, with the remaining DNF resulting from a crash. The crowd on hand, gathered on the small race dock and Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier, both in the Eden Jakana region, were cheering on the frisky fleet-foiled feline skippers as they put on an impressive display of sailing. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Second Sailstice 01 (SS-01) and North Sea Extreme Reverse courses, was comprised of a majority of six The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, four sailing single-handed and two sailing with crew respectively. Three TMS Nacra 17s, and one Wildwind AC-45 rounded out this weeks catamaran fleet.

Rough seas, that cleared up late, with a great fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The regions of The North Sea were a bit rough during the small boat portion of the regatta, as four DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded. Two DNFs were due to skippers hitting region corners and crashing, with the remaining two from crashes on region crossings. The seas cleared up for the big boat portion, as only one DNF was recorded from a skipper crashing. The crowds that gathered on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier, in the Eden Jakana region, and on the observation deck of the lighthouse on the island in the Ziziphus region, cheered on both fleets as they put on a fantastic display of racing.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Bowline course, was comprised of a majority of nine Bandit 22 LTEs. Three Bandit 25Rs, two The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, one sailing single-handed and one sailing with crew respectively, one Bandit IF, and one Quest M-24 rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Butterfly course, was comprised of a small majority of four Wildwind Open 60s. Two TMS Volvo Open 70s, two One Design 65s, and one Trudeau 12 Metre rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.

Stormy seas, with a great fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The regions of The North Sea were choppy and rough for both races as 8 DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded during the first race and another 7 were recorded during the second race. We still saw a whopping 20 boats at the line for the first race and another 18 for the second, with a majority of both fleets finishing. This was also the first Bandit Regatta to see the newly released Bandit 22 LTE compete, more on this below. The spectators that crowded the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock, in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on this weeks skippers as they displayed some great fleet racing. This weeks fleet, sailing on North Sea Olympic Course (Long) and the newly created North Sea Second Sailstice 01 (SS-01)1 course, was comprised of a large majority of ten Bandit 22 LTEs. Five Bandit IFs, four sailing single-handed and one sailing with crew respectively, four Bandit 25Rs, and one lone Bandit 60 rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.

As the Bandit 22 LTE was just released this past Friday at a launch party in The North Sea, and competed in a race for the first time this past Saturday in the Second Sailstice Novice Regatta, a new handicap was established as of the publishing of these results. A value of 0.75 was compiled from 27 recorded lap times, ran by various skippers this weekend and from today’s first race. Please see our North Sea Handicap Table for more details and a link to the Google Sheet showing the full times used to establish the value.

Second Sailstice Novice Regatta – June 20th 2020

An outstanding crowd, with a willing novice sailing fleet, highlighted the Second Sailstice Novice Regatta, hosted by The North Sea Estate (North Sea Racing) and Bandit Ltd. on Saturday, June 20th, 2020. The regatta, part of the day long Second Sailstice event celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Summer Sailstice event, organized by Dale Irata, featured new to Secondlife™ racing and sailing novices in their first race series. The regatta used the new Bandit 22 LTE, purpose built for this event by Bandit Ltd. 12 competitors filled out the regatta field, they were (in no particular order): Ocielian, Penumbra Carter, Dream, JUN, Erika, Tabitha, Agatha McMahn, Don Dasher, Darkstone Aeon, Cilian McCullough, Lisa Hyandi, and Loke Starfall. The regattas race committee was comprised of Analyse Dean, Rei Inoue, and Cryptic. The Notice of Race, Sailing Instructions, and event rule set can be found at the Second Sailstice Novice Regatta page on the Second Sailstice website.

Excitement filled the novice fleet, as most came out as early as 7AM in the morning to practice the events course, SS-01. The practice showed as through the three races held for the event, the starts looked like an experienced race fleet with no barging or fouls at the race line. The regions of The North Sea estate behaved well for sailors and spectators alike, as the few DNFs (Did Not Finish) that were recorded on the day, were due to skippers having to withdraw to real life, or in the instance of one skipper, crashing twice on a region crossing. Spectators themselves flocked to the Poseidon Centre Spectator pier, located in the Eden Jakana region, as a crowd of over 50 at one point were cheering on the new skippers as they plied their Bandit 22s through the gates of the course.

Today’s winner was Ocielian (Ocielian Resident), with Lisa (Lisa Hyandi) second, and Cilian (Cilian McCullough) in third place. Each received a 2020 Second Sailstice Novice Regatta trophy cup denoting their placement, gold cup for first place, silver cup for second place, and bronze cup for third place respectively. All skippers entered in the regatta received a Bandit 22 LTE from Bandit LTD. Congratulations to all of you.

Race Notes:
Loke Starfall (Dyr Mortensen), Darkstone (Darkstone Aeon), and Penumbra (Penumbra Carter), all finished tied with 26 points. As they all had the exact same finishes, DNSs (Did Not Start) in both races after worst points were dropped per Rule A2.1, neither Rule A8.1 or Rule A8.2 of Scoring under Appendix A to the Secondlife™ World Sailing Adjusted Racing Rules of Sailing will satisfy breaking their tie. Therefore, Loke, Darkstone, and Penumbra remain tied in tenth place overall.

Calm sim sailing weather, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. The North Sea regions were well behaved for almost everyone, with only one DNF (Did Not Finish) recorded on the day, due to a skipper crashing to her desktop in the middle of the last region before the finish of the second race. The spectators on hand, on the Bandit1 party dock and small race dock, both in the Eden Jakana region, and on the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, reveled in the great fleet-foiled feline frenzy on display from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Curlew to Jaeger 01 and North Sea Jaeger to Curlew 01 courses, was comprised entirely of six The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, five sailing with crew and one sailing single-handed respectively.

Calm seas and another great fleet turnout highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The North Sea regions were well behaved as three DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. Two of those DNFs were recorded during the small boats portion, as two skippers hit corners and wound up crashing out of SL1. The third DNF occurred during the big boat portion as a skipper crashed on the second to last leg of the course. With the great conditions, the crowd on hand, on the small race dock and Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier, both in the Eden Jakana region, and along the beaches of the Eden Albatros region, and the island in the Ziziphus region, cheered on some great racing on display from this weeks skippers.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing a two lap affair on the North Sea Short Loop course, was comprised of a small majority of four Bandit IFs. Three The Mesh Shop (TMS) Nacra 17s, two Bandit 25Rs, two TMS Star Class, one TMS Star Class – Vintage, one crewed TMS Flying Shadow, one TMS Laser One, one TMS Sea Boss, and one Trudeau One rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Copacabana course, was comprised of a majority of five Wildwind Open 60s. Two TMS Volvo Open 70s, two Trudeau 12 Metres, and one TMS One Design 65 rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.

1Hitting a region corner, or intersection point of several regions, will result in an avatar becoming unseated from their vehicle and possibly crashing the Secondlife™ client. This is due to the Secondlife™ servers not knowing which region the avatar should be in. An avatar can not exist in four regions at once. Avoid region corners.

Mild seas, with another great fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The regions of The North Sea were behaved for most of the fleet as four DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day, split evenly with two a piece in each race. Of those four DNFs, two were due to skippers crashing and two were due to skippers pulling their boats on the course. The crowds on the Poseidon Centre Spectator pier and small race dock, both in the Eden Jakana region, and on the shores of the island in the Ziziphus region, reveled at the sailing on display from this weeks skippers as 18 boats took to the waters of The North Sea. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea 02 and North Sea WC Reach 2 courses, was comprised of a majority of nine Bandit IFs, seven sailing single-handed and two sailing with crew respectively. Eight Bandit 25Rs and one Bandit 60 rounded out his weeks Bandit fleet.

Fanny (fannydeep Resident) was disqualified (DSQ) during the first race for sailing an incorrect course. She sailed south of the island in the Ziziphus region, the first mark on the course, instead of north of the island, as indicated for the course.

Sea (filax Carter) was disqualified (DSQ) during the first race for sailing an incorrect course. She sailed south of the island in the Ziziphus region, the first mark on the course, instead of north of the island, as indicated for the course.

Nihiwatu (Nihiwatu Resident) was disqualified during the first race for finishing the race under protest while failing to complete a 360° penalty turn as instructed by a race director for a Rule 10 ON OPPOSITE TACKS foul against another skipper.

“10 ON OPPOSITE TACKS
When boats are on opposite tacks, a port-tack boat shall keep clear of a starboard-tack boat.“

Yvonne (YvonneDearly Resident) and Carlota (Carlota Dufaux) both finished the second race tied at the finishing line with a time of 20:34. As their final time also remains tied, as they both sailed the same boat, Rule A7 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to score this tie:

“If boats are tied at the finishing line or if a handicap or rating system is used and boats have equal corrected times, the points for the place for which the boats have tied and for the place(s) immediately below shall be added together and divided equally. Boats tied for a race prize shall share it or be given equal prizes.“

Therefore, both Yvonne and Carlota receive 2.5 points, as the product for the place for which they have tied and for the place immediately below, 2 and 3, added together and divided equally.

Sandra (WWWAAAA Resident) and Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook) both finished the second race tied at the finishing line with a time of 16:05. As their final time also remains tied, as they both sailed the same boat, Rule A7 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to score this tie:

“If boats are tied at the finishing line or if a handicap or rating system is used and boats have equal corrected times, the points for the place for which the boats have tied and for the place(s) immediately below shall be added together and divided equally. Boats tied for a race prize shall share it or be given equal prizes.“

Therefore, both Sandra and Emileigh receive 9.5 points, as the product for the place for which they have tied and for the place immediately below, 9 and 10, added together and divided equally.

Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) and Max (Maximiliano Szondi) both finished tied with 23 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

“If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.“

Kire (Kire Masala) and Fanny (fannydeep Resident) finished tied with 30 points. As they both have the exact same finishes in each race, 14 points from race one and 16 points from race two respectively, neither Rule A8.1 or Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing will satisfy breaking their tie. Therefore, Kire and Fanny remained tied in seventeenth place overall.
 

Bandit IF Races – June 13th 2020

It was a beautiful day for sailing, Saturday afternoon. This time we had eight Bandit IFs, including two with crew.
The North Sea regions behaved well, and even in the Fruit Islands waters there was not a cloud in the air.

We had a great start. Immediately after the start, the fleet spread out to navigate the best route to the first buoy and the urgency of the ship was carried on. That was slightly different with other buoys, and I recommend everyone to read the following line again:

“18.2 Giving Mark-Room
(b) If boats are overlapped when the first of them reaches the zone, the outside boat at that moment shall
thereafter give the inside boat mark-room. If a boat is clear ahead when she reaches the zone,
the boat clear astern at that moment shall thereafter give her mark-room.“

As the battle progressed, the fleet slowly disintegrated and two boats had to drop out on the way to the finish. These were also the only two dropouts of the day.

The second race went better and became a perfect race. Everyone took more account of each other. However, before the start, a participant decided to switch, so that the skipper became the crew.

We had no DSQs (disqualified) and two DNFs (Did Not Finish) through both races, however it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.
