Calm seas, with a great fleet turnout, highlighted this week’s North Sea Open Regatta. The North Sea regions were well behaved as one DNF (Did Not Finish) was recorded on the day. The lone DNF, occurring during the small boat portion, was attributed to a skipper’s connection dying on them in the middle of the race. The crowds that gathered along the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, and along the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on a thrilling display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Manta course, was made up of a majority of eight Bandit 22 LTEs. One The Mesh Shop (TMS) Star Class, one TMS Nacra 17, and one Shields Class rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Roundabout course, was made up of a majority of four TMS I-Mocca 60s. One TMS One Design 65, one WildWind RC-44r, and one WildWind AC-62 rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.

Big boat fleet, from the left (in boats): Emileigh (WildWind RC-44r), Diana (WildWind AC-62), Moon (TMS I-Mocca 60), Ester and Yola (TMS I-Mocca 60), Jenna (TMS One Design 65), Sea (TMS I-Mocca 60), and Zimtzicke (TMS I-Mocca 60). Calm to choppy seas, with a great fleet turnout, highlighted this week’s North Sea Open Regatta. The North Sea regions were generally calm but slightly choppy for a few with connection issues as five DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. Three of those DNFs were due to skippers crashing while crossing over region corners. However, the remaining two DNFs, one in each regatta portion respectively, were due to connection issues that Linden Research™ themselves acknowledged with several ongoing maintenance periods through the past two days to try and remedy (see: https://status.secondlifegrid.net/incidents/0xfx85pmf77w , https://status.secondlifegrid.net/incidents/bhc1q8dvfy5k , and https://status.secondlifegrid.net/incidents/0y6jbz3353wm) The crowds that gathered along the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, and along the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, delighted in a great display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Trapezoid course, was made up of a majority of five Bandit IFs. Four Bandit 22s, one The Mesh Shop (TMS) Star Class, one Shields Class, one TMS Flying Shadow, and one TMS Nacra 17 rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Butterfly course, was made up of a majority of five TMS I-Mocca 60s. Two TMS One Design 65s, one Trudeau 12 Metre, one WildWind SC-40, one Bandit 50/3, and one Bandit 60 rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.

Big boat fleet, from the left (in boats): Emileigh (Trudeau 12 Metre), Isa (TMS One Design 65), Diana (WildWind SC-40), Sirius (TMS I-Mocca 60), Julie (Bandit 60), Jenna (TMS One Design 65), Ester (TMS I-Mocca 60), Sea (TMS I-Mocca 60), Zimtzicke (TMS I-Mocca 60), Moon (TMS I-Mocca 60), and Max (Bandit 50/3). Race Notes:
Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) and Ester (citacg Resident) both finished the small boat portion tied at the finishing line with a time of 12:28. As their final time also remains tied, as they both sailed the same boat, Rule A7 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to score this tie:

If boats are tied at the finishing line or if a handicap or rating system is used and boats have equal corrected times, the points for the place for which the boats have tied and for the place(s) immediately below shall be added together and divided equally. Boats tied for a race prize shall share it or be given equal prizes.

Therefore, both Zimtzicke and Ester receive 4.5 points, as the product for the place for which they have tied and for the place immediately below, 4 and 5, added together and divided equally.

Jackson (Jacquimo Resident), Sea (filax Carter), and Diana (Dianafra Allen) all finished tied with 19 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
Jacquimo Resident 7 12
filax Carter 8 11
Dianafra Allen 9 10

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Jackson’s favor with having a seventh place finish over Sea’s eighth place, and Diana’s ninth place finishes as their best.

Red (RedHeadJO Resident) and Niem (NiemDarr Resident) both finished tied with 23 points. As both finished with the exact same finishes in each race, a DNF (Did Not Finish) during the small boat portion and a DNS (Did Not Start) during the big boat portion respectively, neither Rule A8.1 or Rule A8.2 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing will satisfy breaking this tie. Therefore, Red and Niem remain tied in thirteenth place overall.

Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted the last North Sea Open Regatta of June, 2022. The North Sea regions were well behaved as two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. The first DNF was attributed to a skipper pulling her boat during the small boat portion after frustration from being fouled on the first leg. The second DNF, occurring during the big boat portion, was due to a skipper, new to racing, pulling her boat after frustration from trying to sail without auto-trim enabled. The crowds that gathered along the shores on the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, and along the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, delighted in an exciting display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Bowline course, was made up of a triple split majority of two The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, two Bandit 22 LTEs, and two Bandit IFs. One TMS Sea Boss Rider, and one Shields Class rounded out this weeks small boat fleet.
