A beautiful Saturday afternoon was the scene for the last North Sea Bandit IF Regatta for April, 2022. This time we had a fleet of eight Bandit IFs at the start. Two of the eight Bandit IFs had crews. One of the skippers had to give up due to technical problems. So we left with seven bandit IFs. The Eden and North Zee regions behaved well.

Today we had a short route through Eden. Between the islands of Eden, the skippers should keep looking for the ideal lines. Before the start, the skippers were given the task of compiling the route by means of a map and a list. The route would be the same for everyone, but everyone had their own way of composing the route. One of the skippers had very quickly found the ideal lines between the islands, quickly extending her lead, making her impossible to overtake.

The second race was more of a familiar battle scene for the skippers, as we stayed in the North Sea. The skippers stayed together until the first mark. After the second mark, a skipper took the lead so as not to release it. The other skippers continued to battle for second place.

There was one DNF (Did Not Finish) and no DSQs (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

More pictures after the results.

Today’s winners were Julie (JulieRoyale), with Zero (Sleet Zero) second, and Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) in third place.

Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.

The crowds that gathered along the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on the electric fleet-foiled feline frenzy on display from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on North Sea Olympic Course (Long) and the North Sea Roundabout course, was made up of a majority of three The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows. Two WildWind AC-62s, and one TMS Nacra 17 rounded out this weeks catamaran fleet in the first race. The last North Sea Triple Threat of April saw a beautiful Thursday afternoon, with good sailing weather coming from the southwest. Today we had six Bandit 22 LTEs, two The Mesh Shop (TMS) Star Class, and two Bandit IFs at the starting line. A Star Class had crew on board.

For a change, everyone would start at the same time and since we only had more than two boats of the Bandit 22, these skippers would compete for the win. And they would do their best to stay together until the end of the races.

There were no DNFs (Did Not Finish) and two DSQs (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

Calm to stormy seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The North Sea regions were generally behaved but turned stormy during the big boat portion as four DNFs (Did Not Finish) occurred. Two of those DNFs were due to skippers crashing as they crossed over region corners. Another DNF was due to a skipper pulling his boat after frustration from being caught in irons. The final DNF was due to a skippers connection dyeing on her. The crowds that gathered on the beaches of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, and on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, reveled in an exhilarating display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on North Sea Olympic Course (Long), was made up of a majority of seven Bandit 22 LTEs. Two The Mesh Shop (TMS) Star Class, one sailing crewed and one sailing single-handed respectively, and two Bandit IFs rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Circle course, was made up of a small majority of four TMS I-Mocca 60s. Three WildWind Open 60s, one TMS One Design 65, one TMS Volvo Open 70, one ACA33, one WildWind RC-44r, one Bandit 55, and one Bandit 50/3 rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.

Race Notes:
Cate (Cate Sewell) and Anthony (AnthonyKingston Resident) registered as a team prior to the start of the race, therefore their points are accredited together.

Sandra (WWWAAAA Resident) was charged with a Did Not Start (DNS) during the big boat portion due to being over the startline early, before the countdown clock reached 00:00, while never going back around to record a start. This was after notification from the start line, in local chat, and notification from a race director. A prescription to all North Sea races, a skipper must go around and re-cross the line to record a proper start if they are over the line early. Failing to record a proper start results in being charged with a DNS for that race.

Jenna (jnx1e Resident), Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook), and Sea (filax Carter) all finished tied with 9 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

This weeks North Sea Bandit IF Regatta took place on another beautiful Saturday afternoon in the April. This time we had a fleet of six Bandit IF’s at the start. One of the six Bandit IFs had crew. The Eden and North Sea regions behaved well

Today we had a long, quite long route through Eden. Between the islands of Eden, the skippers would keep looking for the ideal lines. Before the start, the skippers were given the task of compiling the route by means of a map and a list. The route would be the same for everyone, but everyone had their own way of composing the route. Some used the card while others made a USB route notecard.

After the start, it soon became clear who had made the best preparations. Some skippers chose the wrong direction while a group of three had found the right lines. These three would set the battle scene. A skipper had bad luck with his Internet connection, but recovered when he was back online.

There was one DNF (Did Not Finish) and no DSQs (Disqualified) in today’s race and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The North Sea regions were well behaved as one DNF (Did Not Finish) was recorded on the day. The lone DNF was attributed to a skipper crashing while she crossed over region corners during the first race. The crowds that gathered on the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on a spirited display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on North Sea Olympic Course (Long) and the North Sea Roundabout course, was made up of a majority of eight Bandit 22 LTEs. Three Bandit IFs, two sailing single-handed and one crewed respectively, one Bandit 25r, and one Bandit 50/3 rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.

Did Not Start (DNS) = number of start +1

Today’s winner was Jenna (jnx1e Resident), with Moon (moonglownight Resident) second, and Sea (filax Carter) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate and to the SLCG for helping with race duties.

Race Notes:
Ester (citacg Resident) was charged with a Did Not Start (DNS) during the second race due to being over the startline early, before the countdown clock reached 00:00, while never going back around to record a start. This was after notification from the start line, in local chat, and notification from a race director. A prescription to all North Sea races, a skipper must go around and re-cross the line to record a proper start if they are over the line early. Failing to record a proper start results in being charged with a DNS for that race.

Moon (moonglownight Resident) and Sea (filax Carter) finished tied with 5 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.
