Calm to stormy seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The North Sea regions were generally behaved but turned stormy during the big boat portion as four DNFs (Did Not Finish) occurred. Two of those DNFs were due to skippers crashing as they crossed over region corners. Another DNF was due to a skipper pulling his boat after frustration from being caught in irons. The final DNF was due to a skippers connection dyeing on her. The crowds that gathered on the beaches of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, and on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, reveled in an exhilarating display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers.
This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on North Sea Olympic Course (Long), was made up of a majority of seven Bandit 22 LTEs. Two The Mesh Shop (TMS) Star Class, one sailing crewed and one sailing single-handed respectively, and two Bandit IFs rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Circle course, was made up of a small majority of four TMS I-Mocca 60s. Three WildWind Open 60s, one TMS One Design 65, one TMS Volvo Open 70, one ACA33, one WildWind RC-44r, one Bandit 55, and one Bandit 50/3 rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.

Today’s winner was Julie (JulieRoyale Resident), with Moon (moonglownight Resident) second, and Jenna (jnx1e Resident) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate and to the SLCG for helping with racing duties.
Race Notes:
Cate (Cate Sewell) and Anthony (AnthonyKingston Resident) registered as a team prior to the start of the race, therefore their points are accredited together.
Sandra (WWWAAAA Resident) was charged with a Did Not Start (DNS) during the big boat portion due to being over the startline early, before the countdown clock reached 00:00, while never going back around to record a start. This was after notification from the start line, in local chat, and notification from a race director. A prescription to all North Sea races, a skipper must go around and re-cross the line to record a proper start if they are over the line early. Failing to record a proper start results in being charged with a DNS for that race.
Jenna (jnx1e Resident), Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook), and Sea (filax Carter) all finished tied with 9 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.“
