Calm seas, with another great fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. The North Sea regions were behaved for most of the skippers today, as three DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded through both races. Two of those DNFs were due to a skipper crashing while crossing regions corners, in both races. The third DNF was from a skipper’s connection acting up. The crowd that gathered on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier, in the Eden Jakana region, and along the shores of the island in the Genip region, reveled in the wonderful fleet-foiled feline frenzy on display from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Manta Reverse and North Sea Extreme Reverse courses, was made up of a majority of eight The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, seven sailing single-handed and one sailing with crew respectively. One TMS Nacra 17, and one Wildwind AC-45 rounded out this weeks catamaran fleet.

A beautiful Thursday afternoon, with good sailing weather, the wind coming from the south west, and no sign of a thunderstorm. Halloween became a special day. The first race would be sailed with Bandits and the second race with the Star Class. Today we had four Bandit IFs, five Bandit 22 LTEs, and six Star Class.

The race with the Bandit 22 LTE would be decided on the finish line. The group stayed together for a long time, but a skipper had a late start, which left it behind. The match between the Bandit IFs would be controlled by a skipper.

The second race was sailed with the Star Class. Right from the start, a skipper took the lead and did not relinquish it. This skipper was chased by a group of four Stars

We had no DNFs (Did Not Finish) and no DSQs (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

Calm seas, with a great fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The regions of The North Sea were generally calm for most, as only one DNF (Did Not Finish) was recorded on the day. During the small boats portion, the Eden Jakana region was untypically laggy, from an avatar who was taking up nearly 3 ms of script time1. After the avatar was removed from the region, things went smoothly. The crowd that assembled on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier, and along the shores of the island in the Ziziphus region, cheered on some really exciting sailing on display from this weeks skippers.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Triple Pink course, was made up of a majority of four Bandit 22 LTEs. Two Quest M-24s, two The Mesh Shop (TMS) Nacra 17s, two TMS Flying Shadows, one crewed and one sailing single-handed respectively, one Bandit 25r, and one Bandit IF rounded out the small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Copacabana, was made up of majority of four Wildwind Open 60s. Two TMS One Design 65s, one TMS Volvo Open 70, one Wildwind RC-44r, and one Trudeau 12 Metre rounded out the big boat fleet.

1Most avatars will take up anywhere from 0.02 to 0.1 milliseconds (ms) of time on average, having little to no affect on a Secondlife™ region. There are only 22.5 ms of time available to dole out between simulator processes and avatars.

This Saturday afternoon, we had a fleet of nine Bandit IFs at the start, two with crew.
The North Sea regions behaved well and even in the Fruit waters there was not a cloud in the sky.

The first race had a surprising start. And right after the start everyone made their way to the first buoy. Once there, we had the front runners with a group of six pursuers. The battle turned out not to be over yet, as the two front runners were overtaken and two skippers would settle the race at the finish.

The start of the second race was just as beautiful as the first race. Three Bandits IF brooding side by side across the starting line. At the first mark we already had two leaders who would fight for the first place to the end. The fleet would slowly pull out, but in the second round, three other boats would fight each other.

We had two DNFs (Did Not Finish) and no DSQs (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

Smooth seas, that turned choppy late, and a great fleet turnout highlighted this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. The regions of The North Sea estate started the race day calm and smooth, as only one DNF (Did Not Finish) occurred during the first race. That DNF was due to a skipper causing a foul that forced another skipper to sail across region corners and crash. The calm seas would not last as a storm blew in during the second race, causing three additional DNFs to occur, all from region crossing crashes. The crowd that gathered on Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock, both in the Eden Jakana region, and along the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, witnessed some great fleet-foiled feline frenzy from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea WC Reach 1 course and a 2 lap affair on the North Sea Long Loop course, was comprised of a majority of seven The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, three sailing with crew and four sailing single-handed respectively. Three TMS Nacra 17s, and one Wildwind AC-62, which was switched out for a Wilwdind AC-45 in the second race, rounded out this weeks catamaran fleet.

Sirius (Sirius Rosca) and Sea (filax Carter) both finished the first race tied at the finishing line with a time of 18:16. As their final time also remains tied, as they both sailed the same boat, Rule A7 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to score this tie:

If boats are tied at the finishing line or if a handicap or rating system is used and boats have equal corrected times, the points for the place for which the boats have tied and for the place(s) immediately below shall be added together and divided equally. Boats tied for a race prize shall share it or be given equal prizes.

Therefore, both Sirius and Sea receive 5.5 points, as the product for the place for which they have tied and for the place immediately below, 5 and 6, added together and divided equally.

Jenna (jnx1e Resident) and Isa (isab DeCuir) both finished tied with 5 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

isab DeCuir 2 3

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Jenna’s favor with having a first place finish over Isa’s second place finish as her best.

Sirius (Sirius Rosca) and Sea (filax Carter) both finished tied with 13.5 points. As they both have the exact same finishes in each race, a 5.5 point finish in the first race and a DNF in the second race respectively, neither rule A8.1 or A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing will satisfy breaking this tie. Therefore, Sirius and Sea both remain tied in sixth place overall.

Jenna (jnx1e Resident) and Sea (filax Carter) both finished the big boat portion tied with a final time of 0:10:57. As the final time result is rounded to the nearest whole second in the Google Sheet, the exact final times for each skipper are: (race time multiplied by handicap equaling final time, all time in seconds)

Skipper Race Time Handicap Final Time
Jenna 650 1.01 656.50
Sea 626 1.05 657.30

With the final times shown in seconds, the tie breaks in Jenna’s favor with having a 656.50 seconds finish over Sea’s 657.30 seconds finish. Just to note, if both skippers final times had been an exact tie, Rule A7 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing would be used to break that tie instead:

Another week of calms seas, with a great fleet turnout, featured during this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The North Sea regions were calm and behaved for most as three DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. Of those three DNFs, two were from skippers pulling their boats from either getting stuck in irons or frustration, and the remainder was due to a skipper crashing on a region crossing. The crowd that gathered on the small race dock, in the Eden Jakana region, as well as along the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, cheered on some great fleet racing on display from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea 01 and North Sea 02 courses, was comprised of a majority of nine Bandit 22 LTEs. Four Bandit IFs, three sailing single-handed and one sailing with crew respectively, and two Bandit 25Rs rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.

Today’s winner was ViV (vivipezz Resident), with Julie (JulieRoyale Resident) second, and Moon (moonglownight Resident) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate and to the SLCG for helping with race duties.

Race Notes:
Micha (Micha Karfield) was disqualified (DSQ) during the second race for sailing an incorrect course, sailing east of the island of Ziziphus instead of sailing west and rounding the southern portion as indicated by the course.

Sirius (Sirius Rosca) and Kim (Kim Farleigh) both finished the second race tied with a final time of 0:10:25. As the final time result is rounded to the nearest whole second in the Google Sheet, the exact final times for each skipper are: (race time multiplied by handicap equaling final time, all time in seconds)

Skipper Race Time Handicap Final Time
Sirius 1096 0.57 624.72
Kim 1097 0.57 625.29

With the final times shown in seconds, the tie breaks in Sirius’s favor with having a 624.72 seconds finish over Kim’s 625.29 seconds finish. Just to note, if both skippers final times had been an exact tie, Rule A7 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing would be used to break that tie instead:

If boats are tied at the finishing line or if a handicap or rating system is used and boats have equal corrected times, the points for the place for which the boats have tied and for the place(s) immediately below shall be added together and divided equally. Boats tied for a race prize shall share it or be given equal prizes.

ViV (vivipezz Resident) and Julie (JulieRoyale Resident) finished tied with 3 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

Skipper Race 1 Race 2
vivipezz Resident 2 1
JulieRoyale Resident 1 2

In the last race, ViV breaks the tie with Julie with her first place finish over Julie’s second place finish.

Moon (moonglownight Resident) and Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook) both finished tied with 8 points.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
moonglownight Resident 3 5
Emileigh Starbrook 4 4

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Moon’s favor with having a third place finish over Emileigh’s fourth place finish as her best.

Micha (Micha Karfield) and Meireles (Meireles Diabolito) both finished tied with 19 points.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
Micha Karfield 6 13
Meireles Diabolito 8 11

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Micha’s favor with having a sixth place finish over Meireles’s eighth place finish as his best.

Saturday afternoon, we had a fleet of six Bandit IFs at the start, with one Bandit IF crewed.
The North Sea regions behaved well and even in the Eden waters there was not a cloud in the sky.

Today for the first time, the “circle of the dragon” was at the start. The two races had two great starts. No sticking to the Committee boat as it happens on other days. Was that because of the circle, or is it something else? Time will tell.

Right from the start of the first race, a skipper immediately took the lead. She was followed behind by a group of four other skippers. As the race progressed, two groups of two boats were formed from the next group of four boats.

After the start of the second race, the fleet fell apart immediately. Two boats took the lead. Followed by two boats and two other boats sailed completely different lines.

We had one DNF (Did Not Finish) and three DSQs (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

More pictures after the results.

Race Notes:
Rugger was disqualified (DSQ) during the first race for finishing the race under protest while failing to complete a 360° penalty turn as instructed by a race director for a 18.2 Giving Mark Room foul.

“18.2 Giving Mark-Room
(b) If boats are overlapped when the first of them reaches the zone, the outside boat at that moment shall
thereafter give the inside boat mark-room. If a boat is clear ahead when she reaches the zone,
the boat clear astern at that moment shall thereafter give her mark-room.“

Rugger (Ruggeromare Resident ) was disqualified (DSQ) during the second race for sailing an incorrect course. Sailing under the bridge of the island of Genip, as the whole island is the mark, this is not allowed.

Moon (moonglownight Resident) was disqualified (DSQ) during the second race for sailing an incorrect course, missing the first course mark, because he was sailing the wrong route.

Moon (moonglownight Resident) and Jack (Jacquimo Resident) both finished tied with 5 points.
