Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted the last Cat Fight in The North Sea for September, 2022. With a fresh breeze of 18 knots out of the southwest, turning from the northwest during the second race, The North Sea regions were well behaved as no DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. The crowds that gathered on the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, and along the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, were delighted by the feverish fleet-foiled feline furor on display from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Half Mane and North Sea Cat Fight 01¹ courses, was made up of a majority of five The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows. One WildWind AC-62² rounded out this weeks catamaran fleet in the first race. One Flying Shadow skipper opted for her WildWind AC-45 for the second race.

North Sea Open Regatta – September 28th 2022

Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted the last North Sea Open Regatta of September, 2022. The North Sea regions were well behaved as one DNF (Did Not Finish) was recorded on the day. The lone DNF was attributed to a skipper crashing to desktop the moment she crossed the start in the small boats portion. The crowds that gathered along the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, and along the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on an energetic display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Triple Pink course, was made up of a majority of four Bandit 22 LTEs. One The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadow, one TMS Sea Boss – Rider, one crewed TMS Star Class, and one crewed Bandit IF rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea CCW (Counter-ClockWise) course, was made up of two WildWind RC-44s, two TMS I-Mocca 60s, two WildWind Open 60s, and one TMS Es Paradis¹.

¹The TMS Es Paradis has a preliminary handicap value of 1.00, as a still recently released boat with no lap times from North Sea Olympic Course (Long) (the standardized course for the North Sea Handicap Table). Several skippers have stepped forward as of the publishing of these results and volunteered to record times to establish a proper handicap for the Es Paradis.

With a moderate breeze of 15 knots out of the southwest, building to a fresh breeze of 18 knots during the second race, The North Sea regions were well behaved as one DNF (Did Not Finish) was recorded on the day. The lone DNF was due to skipper pulling his boat, during the first race, after getting lost on the first leg. The crowds that gathered along the beaches of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, enjoyed a great display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Manta and North Sea 108 courses, was made up of a majority of four Bandit 22 LTEs. Two Bandit IFs rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.

Bandit IF Regatta – September 24th 2022

A beautiful Saturday afternoon saw the last North Sea Bandit IF Regatta for September, 2022. We started with six Bandit IFs.

During the first race, the fleet remained together until the first buoy. Siri got into an argument with Mark, which left him behind. At the turning point, Moon seemed to be in the lead, but Julie cleverly sailed past them, but disaster struck soon after, forcing her to give up. Moon followed by Jack, Red, and Rugger sailed for the next landmark, the Island of Ziziphus. En route to the finish line there would be fights between Red and Jack, and between Siri, Jack and Rugger.

During the second race, the fleet remained together again. However, this time disaster struck for Red. Julie took the lead and Moon followed in her wake. Both were followed by Jack. Rugger and Siri would compete for last place. And this would be a fierce battle! At the head, nothing would change until the finish.

There were two DNFs (Did Not Finish) and no DSQs (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

Calm to choppy seas, with a light fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. With a fresh breeze of 18 knots out of the southwest, rising to 21 knots during the second race, The North Sea regions were behaved for most as two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. Both DNFs were attributed to the same skipper, as she crashed on a region border in the first race, and crashed in the middle of a region in the second race. The crowds that gathered on the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, and along the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, reveled in the energetic fleet-foiled feline fury on display from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Triple Pink and North Sea Extreme Reverse courses, was made up of three The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, two sailing single-handed and one crewed respectively, during the first race. One single-handed skipper opted to take on crew, on her Flying Shadow, for the second race.

Three Bandit IFs, one The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadow, one crewed TMS Star Class, and one TMS Sea Boss – Rider rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Butterfly course, was made up of a majority of three WildWind RC-44s. Two TMS I-Mocca 60s, one Bandit 55, and one Trudeau 12 Metre rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.

Bandit IF Regatta – Sept 17th 2022

Another beautiful Saturday afternoon in September was the backdrop for this weeks North Sea Bandit IF Regatta. We started with four Bandit IFs.

In the first race, Julie already took a lead on the other skippers at the start. Moon and Rugger followed close behind. On the way to mark 4, Julie took the wrong line, causing Moon to take the lead. Julie didn’t give up yet and would battle Moon until the very end. Darb had bad luck at mark 4 and had to give up.

At the start of the second race we were with three boats. The skippers crossed the starting line almost simultaneously. Julie and Moon had better speed and immediately took the lead. Rugger had to watch as his fellow fighters sailed away from him. At the second mark, Moon took the lead, but Julie continued to follow closely. Each looking for the best line, they continue the fight for first place.

There was one DNF (Did Not Finish) and no DSQs (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

With a fresh breeze of 18 knots out of the southwest, calming down to a moderate breeze of 15 knots during the second race, The North Sea regions were well behaved as no DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. The crowds that gathered on the lighthouse observation deck on the island in the Ziziphus region, and along the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, thrilled in the electric fleet-foiled feline frenzy on display from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Bowline Reverse and North Sea Manta courses, was made up of seven The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, five sailing single-handed and two crewed respectively, for the first race. In the second race, one skipper opted for his TMS Nacra 17 instead.

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Sin’s favor with having a second place finish over Max’s third place finish as his best.
 

North Sea Open Regatta – September 14th 2022

Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The North Sea regions were generally well behaved as one DNF (Did Not Finish) was recorded on the day. The lone DNF, occurring during the big boat portion, was due to a skipper crashing while crossing across region corners. The crowds that gathered along the beaches of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, and along the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, were thrilled by a great display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Copacabana course, was made up of a small majority of two The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows. One crewed TMS Star Class, one TMS Sea Boss – Rider, one Bandit 22 LTE, and one crewed Bandit IF rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Circle course, was made up of a small majority of two WildWind Open 60s. One TMS I-Mocca 60, one Bandit 50/3, one WildWind RC-44r, and one WildWind SC-40 rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.

Moon (moonglownight Resident) and Aymalie (Aymalie Resident) finished tied with 5 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

“If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.“
