Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. With a fresh breeze of 18 knots out of the southwest, The North Sea regions were generally well behaved as three DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. The first DNF, occurring during the small boat portion, was due to a skipper pulling her boat immediately after the start as her connection degraded. The remaining two DNFs, occurring in both portions, were from skippers crashing while crossing over region corners. The crowds that gathered along the beaches of the islands in the Ziziphus are Genip regions, and along the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, enjoyed a thrilling display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers.
This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea CCW (Counter-ClockWise) course, was made up of a majority of seven Bandit 22 LTEs. Three Bandit IFs, one The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadow, one crewed TMS Star Class, and one TMS Sea Boss – Rider rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Butterfly course, was made up of a majority of three WildWind RC-44s. Two TMS I-Mocca 60s, one Bandit 55, and one Trudeau 12 Metre rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.
