Great sim sailing weather, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this years US Memorial Day edition of the North Sea Bandit Regatta. With a gentle breeze of 8 knots out of the southwest, rising to a moderate breeze of 11 knots during the second race, The North Sea regions were well behaved as one DNF (Did Not Finish) was recorded on the day. The lone DNF was due to a new skipper pulling his boat in the second race after misunderstanding how to setup their navigation HUD for a multi-lap race. The crowds that gathered on the lighthouse observation deck on the island in the Ziziphus region, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier in the Eden Jakana region, delighted in an electric display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on North Sea Olympic Course (Short) and a two lap affair on the North Sea Short Loop course, was made up of a majority of seven Bandit 22 LTEs. Two Bandit IFs, one sailing single-handed and one crewed respectively, and one Bandit 25r rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet in the first race. A Bandit IF skipper opted to switch to his Bandit 22 for the second race.

Today’s winner was Sea (filax Carter), with Emi (Emileigh Starbrook) second, and Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.

Race Notes:
Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) and Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) both finished the second race tied at the finishing line with a time of 13:49. As their final time also remains tied, as they both sailed the same boat, Rule A7 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to score this tie:

If boats are tied at the finishing line or if a handicap or rating system is used and boats have equal corrected times, the points for the place for which the boats have tied and for the place(s) immediately below shall be added together and divided equally. Boats tied for a race prize shall share it or be given equal prizes.

Therefore, both Zimtzicke and Rugger receive 5.5 points, as the product for the place for which they have tied and for the place immediately below, 5 and 6, added together and divided equally.

The last North Sea Bandit IF Regatta for May 2022 took place on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. We started with seven Bandit IFs. One of the Bandit IFs had crew on board. The start of the first race went smoothly, seven boats in a row would be heading for the first mark. However, one of the skippers had bad luck and had to drop out. The second race started with six boats. The fleet was a little apart from the start. Moon was in charge and was chased by Rugger, Zero, and Julie. These four peelers would compete for the first four places. Julie started the attack on Moon, this would last a long time, but on the way back to the finish Julie appeared not to relinquish the lead. Zero would soon be in third place forcing Rugger to settle for fourth place

Alex (Alex0730 Resident) and Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) both finished tied with 15 points. As they both finished with the same points in each race, 8 points in the small boat portion and 7 in the big boat portion respectively, neither Rule A8.1 or A8.2 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing will satisfy breaking this tie. Therefore, Alex and Rugger remain tied in tenth place overall.

Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The North Sea regions were well behaved as no DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. The crowds that gathered on the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, delighted in a thrilling display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea 01 and North Sea 02 courses, was made up of a majority of seven Bandit 22 LTEs. Three Bandit IFs, two sailing single-handed and one sailing crewed respectively, rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.

The fleet rounds the southern shore of the island in the Ziziphus region, the first mark on the North Sea 01 course, during the first race of the North Sea Bandit Regatta, on Monday, May 16th, 2022.

Bandit IF Regatta – May 14th 2022

14 mei 2022 race_003

From the left to the right: (in Bandit IFs): boats: Committee boat: Daenerys, Tamarushka Dock: Siri, Julie, Rugger, Zero, Alex, Jack, Red, Moon

A beautiful Saturday afternoon in May. We thought so. We start with eight Bandit IFs. The start of the first race went smoothly. Eight boats in a row would be heading for the first mark. This was an island in Prune. Three skippers, Jack, Rugger and Red, broke down here. Rugger even ended up on the beach. Jack was able to continue sailing and made the best of the situation. Because of this situation, we had a front runner, Julie, who could not be overtaken. The chasing group, included Moon, Siri, Zero and Jack, would compete for second place. this resulted in beautiful images. At the Western turning point, Jack had to let the other three go. The three skippers kept fighting for second place until the very end.

We would start the second races with six boats. Two unlucky ones from the first race had to go home. Before the start, disaster struck for Jack. He had to drop out of the race. So we left with five skippers. Five Bandit Ifs in a row and the battle for first place would be a fierce one. Julie and Moon battled to the bitter end for first place. The other three, Siri, Zero and Alex, skippers should settle for third place. The front runners slowly moved away from the other three legs and the chasing group slowly broke up. As a result, third place was already secured by Siri. Julie made a mistake on the head, but recovered, so that the battle was not yet over.

There were four DNFs (Did Not Finish) and one DSQ (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

“11 ON THE SAME TACK, OVERLAPPED
When boats are on the same tack and overlapped, a windward boat shall keep clear of a leeward boat.“
