This weeks North Sea Open Regatta featured another great fleet and spectator turnout. The small boat portion saw a fleet of 17 boats while the big boat portion had another 13 boats. Spectators again crowded the small race dock in the Eden Puffin region , as well as the beaches in the Eden Alabatros region, and Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region. The sims themselves behaved well as we only saw three Did Not Finishes (DNF) on the day. Plus, this Open Regatta was the first race that Daenerys was the lead Race Director for. We congratulate Daenerys after completing several weeks of Race Director training in The North Sea.

This weeks small boat fleet, racing on the North Sea Trapezoid course, featured a majority of four Bandit IFs. Three Bandit 25s, three The Mesh Shop (TMS) Nacra 17s, two Trudeau Patchogue IIs, two Shields Class, one TMS Flying Shadow, one Quest Melges-24, and one Trudeau One rounded out the small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big fleet, racing on the North Sea Manta course, featured a split majority of three Wildwind Open 60s and three TMS Ushuaias. Two TMS One Design 65s, two Trudeau 12 Metres, one TMS Pacha 110, one TMS Cafe Del Mar 75, and one Wildwind RC-44r rounded out the big boat fleet.

Race Director: Daenerys
Assistant Race Directors: Petra and Cryptic

Race Notes:
Bianca (TgBianca Resident) was disqualified (DSQ) during the big boat portion for failing to complete a penalty turn as directed.

Jackson (Jacquimo Resident) and Rosie (Arwyn Silverweb) both finished tied with 21 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Arwyn Silverweb 10 11

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Jackson’s favor with having a seventh place finish over Rosie’s tenth place finish as her best.

Lampoon (Lampoon Destiny) and Safy (CarissaBellane Resident) both finished tied with 24 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

Rossa (rossamare Resident), Danie (Danie Fegte), and Ellion (Ellion Melodie) all finished tied with 29 points. As they all finished with exact placings in both races, a DNF and DNS respectively, neither rule A8.1 or rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing will satisfy breaking their tie. Therefore, all three remain tied in fifteenth place overall.

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Esther’s favor with having a fourth place finish over Blair’s ninth place finish as his best.

Astrid (AstridNewBonham Resident), Howard (hallveis Resident), and Emily (EmilyWaugh Resident) all finished tied with 19 points. As they all have the exact same finishes in both small and big boat races, a DNF and DNS respectively, neither rule A8.1 or A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing will satisfy breaking their tie. Therefore, they remain tied in twelfth place overall.

This weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta started off with some smooth seas but turned bumpy at the end. The sims played nice for the first race with only just 2 DNFs (Did Not Finish) recorded, however they turned bumpy during the second race as the Sapote region devoured most of the fleet with 9 DNFs recorded. Spectators continued the great trend of large turnouts as the dock in Eden Puffin was once again crowded for both races. This weeks fleet was made up of a split majority of six Bandit 25s and six Bandit IFs.

Race Director: Cryptic
Wind: SW (225°) 18kts

Note:
Did Not Finish (DNF) = number of finish +1
Did Not Start (DNS) = number of start +1

Today’s winner was Blair (Blair Karas), with Rayz (Rayzza Rubble) second, and Astrid (AstridNewBonham Resident) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate and the SLCG for helping with race duties.

Race Notes:
Daenerys (blondij Resident) and Carlota (Carlota Dufaux) both finished tied with 9 points.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
blondij Resident 1 8
Carlota Dufaux 4 5

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Daenerys’s favor with having a first place finish over Carlota’s fourth place finish as her best.

Moon (moonglownight Resident), Yomogi (Yomogi Resident), and Howard (hallveis Resident) all finished tied with 13 points.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
moonglownight Resident 2 11
Yomogi Resident 3 10
hallveis Resident 4 9

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Moon’s favor with having a second place finish over Yomogi’s third place finish and Howard’s fourth place finish as their best. Yomogi’s third place best finish further breaks the tie in her favor over Howard’s fourth place best finish.

Markz (Markz McMahon) and Rosie (Arwyn Silverweb) finished tied with 17 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

Skipper Race 1 Race 2
Markz McMahon 4 13
Arwyn Silverweb 13 4

In the last race, Markz breaks the tie with Rosie with his four point finish over Rosie’s thirteen point finish.
