Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. With a gentle breeze of 8 knots out of the southwest, rising to a moderate breeze of 11 knots during the second race, The North Sea regions were generally behaved for most as four DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. The first DNF, occurring during the first race, was from a skipper pulling his boat after frustration from being stuck in irons right after the start. The second and third DNFs, one also in the first race and the later in the second race, were from skippers crashing while crossing over region corners. The remaining DNF, occurring in the second race, was from a skipper’s connection dying on her during the race. The crowds that gathered along the shores of the island in the Ziziphus region, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, reveled in a gripping display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on North Sea Olympic Course (Short) and a two lap affair on the North Sea Short Loop course, was made up of a majority of eight Bandit 22 LTEs. Five Bandit IFs, four sailing single-handed and one crewed respectively, and one Bandit 25R rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.

Today’s winner was Rayz (Rayzza Rubble), with Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook) second, and Moon (moonglownight Resident) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate and to the SLCG for helping with race duties.

Race Notes:
Sandra (WWWAAAA Resident) and Sea (filax Carter) both finished tied with 18 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
WWWAAAA Resident 7 11
filax Carter 8 10

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Sandra’s favor with having a seventh place finish over Sea’s eighth place finish as her best.

Markis (Marcus Schechter) and Sirius (Sirius Rosca) finished tied with 20 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

Skipper Race 1 Race 2
Marcus Schechter 11 9
Sirius Rosca 9 11

In the last race, Markis breaks the tie with Sirius with his ninth place finish over Sirius’s eleventh place finish.

Cole (ColeBatriani Resident) and Max (Maximiliano Szondi) finished tied with 26 points. As they both have duplicate finishes in each race, a DNF (Did Not Finish) in the first race and DNS (Did Not Start) in the second race respectively, neither Rule A8.1 or A8.2 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing will satisfy breaking their tie. Therefore, Cole and Max remain tied in thirteenth place overall.

Committee boat: Daenerys, and Tamarushka.
Pier: Cole, and Marius.
Dock: Tamar, Cryptic, Cae, Vicky, and Sandra.

The last North Sea Bandit IF Regatta for February, 2023, took place on a pleasant Saturday afternoon. We had six bandit IFs at the start. One bandit IF had crew on board. Later, two more skippers joined the fleet.

Julie took the lead in the first race. Followed by Moon and Siri. They would fight fiercely for the top three places. During the race, two skippers broke down.

During the second race, Siri took the lead, but it was soon taken over by Moon. Julie broke down but was still able to resume her race. Two other skippers had to give up during the race.

It had to happen in the last race. Julie immediately took the head and did not give it away. Siri went into battle with Moon. Jack managed to take advantage of this and took second place. He would have to defend this place in the course of the race, because Moon didn’t leave him alone. Siri, meanwhile, was battling Rugger for fourth place.

There were four DNFs (Did Not Finish) and no DSQs (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

Great sim sailing weather, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The North Sea regions were calm for all as no DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. The crowds that gathered along the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, and along the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, enjoyed a fun display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Bowline course, was made up of a majority of eight Bandit 22 LTEs. One The Mesh Shop (TMS) Star Class rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Circle course, was made up of a majority of four TMS I-Mocca 60s. Race Notes:
Alejandro (Boogie Aeghin) was disqualified (DSQ) during the small boat portion for sailing an incorrect course, missing the third course mark, the pink buoy in the Sloe region.

Alejandro (Boogie Aeghin) was disqualified (DSQ) during the big boat portion for sailing an incorrect course, missing the first course mark, the white buoy in the Soncoya region.

Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) and Sea (filax Carter) both finished the big boat portion tied at the finishing line with a time of 13:26. As their final time also remains tied, as they both sailed the same boat, Rule A7 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to score this tie:

If boats are tied at the finishing line or if a handicap or rating system is used and boats have equal corrected times, the points for the place for which the boats have tied and for the place(s) immediately below shall be added together and divided equally. Boats tied for a race prize shall share it or be given equal prizes.

Therefore, both Zimtzicke and Sea receive 3.5 points, as the product for the place for which they have tied and for the place immediately below, 3 and 4, added together and divided equally.

Alejandro (Boogie Aeghin) and Chalky (boatcrew Resident) both finished tied with 15 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. With a moderate breeze of 15 knots out of the southwest, rising to a fresh breeze of 18 knots during the second race, The North Sea regions were generally behaved for most as two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. The first DNF, occurring during the first race, was attributed to a skipper crashing to her desktop in the middle of a region. The second DNF, occurring during the second race, was from a skipper crashing while she crossed over region corners. The crowds that gathered on the lighthouse observation deck on the island in the Ziziphus region, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, were thrilled by an electric display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Manta and North Sea Manta Reverse courses, was made up of a majority of eight Bandit 22 LTEs. Two Bandit IFs, split evenly at one crewed and one single-handed respectively, rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.

With the publication of these results, comes the completion of the North Sea Standard Yearly Adjustment. All handicaps in today’s regatta are from the new adjustment. After two previous years of changes, The North Sea Standard1 stayed steady this time at 0:10:30, with no change from last year. The largest refactoring came from the The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadow increasing to 1.09 from 1.03, placing it on par with the TMS Nacra 17, also up to 1.09 from 1.08. Likewise, the crewed TMS Flying Shadow also increases to 1.36, up from 1.32. North Sea Olympic Course (Long), the course the North Sea Standard is based on, was used 35 times in 2022, with the winning time of each race added to the data the standard is based on. From those 35 races, 287 finishing times were used to help update or reinforce the handicap values of more than 31 boats in our table. For more info, as well as a link to the Google Sheet used to calculate everything, please see North Sea Handicap Table.

1 The North Sea Standard is the average sailing time of all race winners on North Sea Olympic Course (Long) racing with a 225° (SW) 18 knot wind. This is the time that all handicaps on the North Sea Handicap Table are weighted against.

Pier: Arwen, and Dana.
Dock: Cryptic, Caethes, and Red.

This weeks North Sea Bandit IF Regatta took place on a slightly stormy Saturday afternoon in February. We had six bandit IFs at the start. One Bandit IF had crew on board.

The fleet set out with Julie in the lead. Moon, Siri and Darb at an appropriate distance. As the match progressed, Moon and Siri joined Julie. Darb and Marcus soon became distant.

At the start of the second race, Julie took the lead again. She was immediately followed by Siri, Moon, and Rugger. Halfway through the race, a storm (https://status.secondlifegrid.net/incidents/qjsnz431kdqm) was created by SL™. This caused Julie, and Siri to lose their way. Moon, and Rugger took advantage of this. Julie, and Siri had to pull out all the stops to reconnect with Moon, and Rugger. Rugger was still overtaken, but Moon had the lead for good

Finally, it was time. The third and final race of the day. The storm had passed again. And a seventh sailor joined the party. This time it was crowded at the starting line. Moon, Julie, Siri, Jack, and Rugger left almost simultaneously. The quintet headed for the first mark in good spirits. Here Julie took the lead. Moon followed in her wake. Jack had to drop out. At the turning point, Julie was still in charge. She wouldn’t let this one go

There was one DNF (Did Not Finish) and two DSQs (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

The crowds that gathered along the beaches of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, and along the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, reveled in a spirited display display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea CCW (Counter-ClockWise) course, was made up of a majority of eight Bandit 22 LTEs. Three The Mesh Shop (TMS) Star Class, two sailing single-handed and one crewed respectively, one TMS Sea Boss – Rider, and one TMS Nacra 17 rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on North Sea Olympic Course (Long), was made up of a majority of four TMS I-Mocca 60s. One TMS One Design 65, one TMS Ocean Beach, one Trudeau Runa IV, one Trudeau 12 Metre, and one Bandit 50/3 rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.

Today’s winner was Jenna (jnx1e Resident), with ViV (vivipezz Resident) second, and Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.

Race Notes:
Cole (ColeBatriani Resident) was disqualified (DSQ) during the small boat portion for failing to complete a 360° penalty turn as directed by a race director due to a Rule 13 While Tacking penalty.

13 WHILE TACKING
After a boat passes head to wind, she shall keep clear of other boats until she is on a close-hauled course.
During that time rules 10, 11 and 12 do not apply. If two boats are subject to this rule at the same time,
the one on the other’s port side or the one astern shall keep clear.

ViV (vivipezz Resident) and Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) both finished tied with 5 points.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
vivipezz Resident 1 4
Nicole Myhre 2 3

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in ViV’s favor with having a first place finish over Zimtzicke’s second place finish as her best.

Niem (NiemDarr Resident) and Cole (ColeBatriani Resident) both finished tied with 22 points. As the both have the exact same finishes in each race, a twelve point finish in the small boat portion and ten point finish in the big boat portion respectively, neither Rule A8.1 or A8.2 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing will satisfy breaking their tie. Therefore, Niem and Cole remain tied in twelfth place overall.

Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. With a moderate breeze of 11 knots out of the southwest, rising to 15 knots during the second race, The North Sea regions were calm for most as two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. Both DNFs, occurring one a piece in each race respectively, were from skippers crashing while crossing over region corners. The crowds that gathered on the beaches on the islands in the Ziziphus, and Genip regions, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, delighted in a dynamic display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea 01 and the North Sea 02 courses, was made up of a majority of ten Bandit 22 LTEs. Three Bandit IFs rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet in the first race. One Bandit IF skipper opted for her Bandit 22 instead, for the second race.

Alejandro (Boogie Aeghin) was accredited with a Did Not Dtart (DNS) for the second race as he was over the starting line early, before the race start countdown reached 0:00:00, and he never came back around to properly start the race.

Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) and Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) both finished the second race tied at the finishing line with a time of 11:02.

Therefore, both Rugger and Zimtzicke receive 5.5 points, as the product for the place for which they have tied and for the place immediately below, 5 and 6, added together and divided equally.

Moon (moonglownight Resident) and Sirius (Sirius Rosca) finished tied with 6 points.

Skipper Race 1 Race 2
moonglownight Resident 4 2
Sirius Rosca 2 4

In the last race, Moon breaks the tie with Sirius with his second place finish over Sirius’s fourth place finish.

Alejandro (Boogie Aeghin) and Vicky (Vicky4698 Resident) both finished tied with 22 points.

Boogie Aeghint 9 13
Vicky4698 Resident 11 11

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Alejandro’s favor with having a ninth place finish over Vicky’s eleventh place finish as her best.

Bandit IF Regatta – Feb 11th 2023

From the left to the right (in Bandit IFs): Vicky, Red, Sirius, Jackson, Moon, Julie, and Rugger.
Committee boat: Daenerys, and Tamarushka.
Pier: Cole, Buttercups, and Sunday.
Dock: Tamar, Cryptic, Caethes, and Markis.

The second North Sea Bandit IF Regatta for February, 2023, took place on a pleasant Saturday afternoon. We had seven bandit IFs at the start. The fleet set out with Julie in the lead. Moon, Rugger, and Siri followed at an appropriate distance. Jack, and Vicky followed behind. On the way to the second mark, Moon broke away from Rugger, and Siri. Jack, and Vicky joined them. On the way to the final mark, Julie had managed to maintain a good lead over Moon. Moon against that had a good lead over the fleet.

At the start of the second race, Red ran into a bit of trouble, which meant that Moon took the lead. Closely followed by Siri, and Julie. Behind that we had Jack, and Rugger. At the statues, or where statues used to be in Eden, Rugger sailed away from Jack. But that was only for a short time. At the next mark, Jack had overtaken Rugger again. Meanwhile, Julie had passed Siri, and was chasing Moon. Moon had to pull out all the stops to stay ahead of Julie.

Finally it was time. The third and final race of the day. Rugger, and Julie had a good start. Rugger took the lead followed by Vicky, Siri, and Julie. Moon took another line and this made him take over the lead in the region of Ziziphus. Siri, and Rugger fought over the Ziziphus coastline. Julie, on the other hand, had broken away from Rugger, and tried to follow Moon. Red, and Jack tacked before Moon, and Siri. Julie got stuck behind Rugger again and had to wait because of this. When they arrived at Genip, Moon was still in charge. Julie had taken second place. Jack, Siri, and Rugger followed at an appropriate distance. Leaving Genip, Jack was firmly in control of third place. Back in the region of Ziziphus, Julie surprised Moon and took charge of him. Rugger, Siri, and Red would go on to battle for fourth place.

There was one DNF (Did Not Finish) and no DSQs (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.
