A nice fleet turnout, with mild sim sailing weather, highlighted this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. The North Sea regions were mostly smooth and calm, as only one DNF (Did Not Finish) was recorded on the day. However, there were some hiccups along the way, as several skippers experienced issues on random region crossings. The crowds gathered on the small sailing dock in the Eden Jakana region, and the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, were still basking in some wonderful sailing displays from this weeks fleet-foiled flying felines. This weeks fleet, sailing on North Sea Olympic Course (Long) and the North Sea Extreme Reverse course, was comprised of a majority of four The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, split evenly with two sailing single-handed and two sailing with crew. Two TMS Nacra 17s made up the remainder of this weeks catamaran fleet.

On the Committee Boat: Cryptic. On the dock: Elbag, Ana, and Henry.

Mild sim sailing weather, with a great fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The regions of The North Sea were well behaved overall, as only three DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day, two during the small boats portion and one during the big boats portion respectively. Of the three DNFs, one was due to a skipper pulling his boat after his navigation HUD ceased to function during the small boats portion, with the remaining two DNFs due to skipper crashes. The crowds gathered on the small racing dock and Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier, in the Eden Jakana region, reveled in some great sailing displays from both of this weeks fleets.

The small boat fleet, sailing a two lap affair on the North Sea Short Loop course, was comprised of a small majority of four Bandit 25Rs. Three The Mesh Shop (TMS) Nacra 17s, three Bandit IFs, one TMS Star Class, and one TMS Flying Shadow made up the remainder of this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on North Sea Olympic Course (Long), was comprised of a slim majority of three Wildwind Open 60s. Two TMS One Design 65s, one TMS Volvo Open 70, one TMS Cafe del Mar 75, one Wildwind AC-62, one ACA33, and one Trudeau 12 Metre made up the remainder of this weeks big boat fleet.

Race Notes:
ViV (vivipezz Resident), Isa (isab DeCuir), and Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) all finished tied with 12 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
vivipezz Resident 2 10
isab DeCuir 3 9
Nicole Myhre 5 7

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in ViV’s favor with having a second place finish over Isa’s third place and Zimtzicke’s fifth place finishes as their best. Subsequently, Isa further breaks the tie with Zimtzicke, with her third place best finish over Zimtzicke’s fifth place best finish.

Palani (Palani Allen) and Nihiwatu (Nihiwatu Resident) finished tied with 14 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

Skipper Race 1 Race 2
Palani Allen 8 6
Nihiwatu Resident 6 8

In the last race, Palani breaks the tie with Nihiwatu with his sixth place finish over Nihiwatu’s eighth place finish.

Daenerys (blondij Resident) and Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) finished tied with 22 points. As they both had the exact same finishes in each race, a DNF (Did Not Finish) and DNS (Did Not Start) respectively, neither Rule A8.1 or Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing will satisfy breaking their tie. Therefore, Daenerys and Rugger remain tied in twelfth place overall.

Stormy to clearing sim sailing weather highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The North Sea regions were well behaved except for the Bullace region, which developed an appetite for sailors during the first race as it caused five DNFs (Did Not Finish). After the Bullace region was restarted, it’s hunger seemed to be sated as no other DNFs were recorded on the day. The crowd on hand, gathered on both the small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, and the lighthouse on the island in the Ziziphus region, enjoyed some great racing all around from this weeks Bandit skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on North Sea Olympic Course (Long) and North Sea Trapezoid course, was comprised of a majority of six Bandit 25Rs. Five Bandit IFs, four sailing single-handed and one sailing with crew, made up the remainder of this weeks Bandit fleet.

The fleet gets underway at the start of the small boat portion of the North Sea Open Regatta, on Wednesday, February 19th, 2020.

Stormy to clear seas, with another great fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The regions of The North Sea were stormy throughout the small boat portion as all five DNFs (Did Not Finish) on the day were recorded in that race. Of those five DNFs, one was due to a skipper pulling her boat after she lost her navigation HUD, with the remaining four DNFs due to crashes on region borders. The seas cleared up, however, as it was smooth sailing for the entirety of the big boat portion with every skipper finishing the race. The crowds on hand, gathered on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier, in the Eden Jakana region, and on the islands in the Ziziphus, Genip, and Eden Auk regions, were cheering on both of this weeks large fleets.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Copacabana course, was comprised of a split majority of four The Mesh Shop (TMS) Nacra 17s and four Bandit 25Rs. Three Bandit IFs, two sailing with crew and one sailing single-handed, one TMS Flying Shadow, one TMS Star Class, and one Shields Class made up the remainder of this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Snipe course, was comprised of a small majority of four Wildwind Open 60s. Three TMS One Design 65s, two TMS Volvo Open 70s, one Wildwind RC-44r, one Wildwind AC-62, and one ACA33 made up the remainder of this weeks big boat fleet.

Smooth to choppy sim sailing weather, with a lighter holiday fleet turnout, featured in this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. The North Sea regions were well behaved throughout the first race, only to turn choppy during the second race as two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded. The spectators in attendance, gathered on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small racing dock in the Eden Jakana region, were in a great Valentine’s mood as they cheered on the fleet-foiled feline flying skippers through both races. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Triple Pink and newly created North Sea Snipe1 courses, was comprised of a majority of three The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, one sailing with crew and two sailing singe-handed respectively. Great sim sailing weather and another nice fleet turnout highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The regions of the North Sea were smooth and behaved as only one DNF (Did Not Finish) was recorded on the day, due to skipper pulling her boat after its scripts stopped responding from another boat fouling and colliding with her. Both fleets showcased some great sailing for the crowds gathered on the small race dock, in the Eden Curlew region, and the shores of the islands in the Genip, Ziziphus, and Eden Auk regions.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on North Sea Olympic Course (Long), was comprised of a small majority of five The Mesh Shop (TMS) Star Class. Four TMS Nacra 17s, three Bandit 25Rs, and one Bandit IF made up the remainder of this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Counterclockwise (CCW) course, was comprised of a small majority of three Wildwind Open 60s. Two TMS One Design 65s, two TMS Volvo Open 70s, two Bandit 50/3s, one ACA33, one Wildwind RC-44r, and one Wildwind AC-62 rounded out the big boat fleet.

Note: The handicap value for the TMS Star Class has been adjusted from 0.64 to 0.66 as of the publication of this post. For more, please see our North Sea Handicap Table.

Julie (JulieRoyale Resident) and Teagan (Teagan Snowpaw) finished tied with 4 points.
