This weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta saw light winds, a great turnout and some fun racing. The traditionally high North Sea winds died down to a light 11 knots out of the southwest for today’s regatta making for some close fun racing. This weeks fleet was an all IF affair and 11 strong with one lone Bandit 60 appearing in the fleet for the second race. Spectators showed up in large numbers, continuing the trend of packing the Eden Albatros, Eden Puffin, Breadnut, and Ziziphus regions.

The first race, on North Sea Olympic Course (Short), saw the fleet off to a great start as half the fleet was across the start line before 34 seconds ticked off the race clock. Kurt, with Asami, got things started, crossing the start line at 00:00:07. Red was next to cross the start line, at 00:00:14, followed by Jackson, at 00:00:17, Carlota, at 00:00:21, Rayz, at 00:00:27, and Alexandre, at 00:00:34. Noel was next across the start line at 00:00:40, followed by Neil, at 00:00:42, Arwyn, at 00:00:57, Cranston with Blue, at 00:01:25, and Daenerys at 00:01:54. Kurt’s short lead would not last as he crashed crossing into the Carob region, just south of the start line and recorded a DNF. Red took advantage and took the lead, holding on until the Alexandre, who made several moves through the fleet from the middle of the pack started to challenge. Jackson crashed as he neared the first course mark, the blue buoy in the Sapote region, and recorded a DNF. Carlota, who had been just aft of Jackson moved up and neared the front of the pack. Rayz settled in just aft of Carlota, followed by Neil, Noel, Arwyn, Cranston with Blue, and Daenerys. Alexandre overtook Red as they both rounded the third course mark, the white buoy in the Eden Puffin region, taking the lead. Alexandre would hold his lead as he crossed the finish line first, taking line honors. Red crossed the finish line second, a mere 4 seconds after Alexandre. Carlota crossed the finish line in third, 8 seconds after Red, followed by Rayz, Neil, Neol, Arwyn, Cranston with Blue, and Daenerys.

The second race, on the NS-SOL-13C course, saw another great fleet start with the majority crossing the start line before 40 seconds ticked off the race clock. Alexandre got things started, crossing the start line at 00:00:05, followed by Jackson right on his stern, at 00:00:06. Kurt, with Asami, was next to cross the start line at 00:00:12 followed by Rayz, at 00:00:19. Red was next to cross the start line at 00:00:23, followed by Noel, at 00:00:39, Dess, at 00:0:44, Daenerys, at 00:00:53, Neil, at 00:00:54, and Arwyn, at 00:01:37. Cranston, who had switched to his bigger Bandit 60 from his Bandit IF, and who had Blue, Winter and Shaylin along as crew, was next across the start line at 00:02:24. Alexandre took advantage of his nice start and lead the pack through the first leg of the course down to the Ocean Cast Radio island in the Soncoya region. Jackson fell back slightly from his great start behind Alexandre, falling back several positions, as Red, Rayz, and Neil would overtake and pass him. Kurt, with Asami, crashed yet again as he sailed through the Carob region and recorded his second DNF. Noel settled into the middle of the pack as Awryn, who got off to slow start made progress and passed Daenerys. Dess had her own troubles as she crashed going through the Mammea region and recorded a DNF. Cranston, with Blue, Winter, and Shaylin, also crashed as he went through the Mammea region, in his Bandit 60, recording a DNF. As Jackson crossed from from the Muskmelon region into the Nance region, north of the island mark in Soncoya, he hit a lag spike and veered above close hauled almost putting him in irons. Rayz and Red both took advantage and passed Alexandre before rounding Ocean Cast Radio island, in the Soncoya region, for the last leg of the course. Alexandre recovered just as Neil was nipping on his stern. Rayz was now in the lead of the fleet and crossed the finish line first, taking line honors and also his first victory in a North Sea race, well done. Red crossed the finish line second, followed by Alexandre, Neil, Jackson, Noel, Arwyn, and Daenerys.

Today’s winner was Alexandre (ramuf Resident), with Red (RedHeadJO Resident) second, and Rayz (Rayzza Rubble) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate and the SLCG for helping with race duties.

Race Notes:
The first race was an all IF race so the results for that race are presented in class format.
The second race saw the only off class boat record a DNF, so for simplicity the results for that race are presented in class format as well.

Alexandre (ramuf Resident) and Red (RedHeadJO Resident) both finished tied with 4 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
ramuf Resident 1 3
RedHeadJO Resident 2 2

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Alexandre’s favor with having a first place finish over Red’s second place finish as her best.

Carlota (Carlota Dufaux) and Jackson (Jacquimo Resident) both finished tied with 15 points.

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Carlota’s favor with having a third place finish over Jackson’s fifth place finish as his best.

Daenerys (blondij Resident) and Cranston (Cranston Yordstorm) finished tied with 17 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

This weeks Trudeau Patchogue II class races saw smooth sim weather with some really fun racing. The sims behaved well as there were no crashes due to region crossings or lag. We had a nice turnout of spectators to watch this small fun boats surf past with their centerboards up along the shore in the Eden Albatros region and also along the shores of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region.

The first race, on the NS-SOL-13A course, saw a quick start as the entire fleet was across the start line as 33 seconds ticked off the race clock. Arwyn got things started as she crossed the start line first at 00:00:02 followed by myself, at 00:00:06. Red was next to cross the start line at 00:00:14 followed by Carlota, at 00:00:22, and Joshua at 00:00:33. Arwyn’s short lead evaporated along the first leg, to the southern tip of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region, as the fleet bunched up and kept things tight. I overtook and passed Arwyn with Joshua right on my stern as Arwyn settled in for a neck and neck battle with Red. Carlota just aft of them as the fleet rounded the island in Genip for the return legs back to the finish. I was able to extend a small lead ahead of Joshua and cross the finish line first, taking line honors as Joshua crossed the finish line second. Red, holding off a strong challenge from Arwyn, crossed the finish line third with Arwyn crossing just 2 seconds after her followed by Carlota.

The second race, on the NS-SOL-13B course, saw an even quicker start as the entire fleet was on the course side of the start line by the time 16 seconds ticked off the race clock. Red got things started this time, crossing the start line at 00:00:02 followed by Arwyn, at 00:00:03, myself at 00:00:09, and Joshua at 00:00:16. Red took advantage of her quick start and held her lead for the entire course. I was just aft of Arwyn until overtaking her on the leg south to the southern tip of Lighthouse Isle, in the Ziziphus region. Joshua’s connection did not hold and he crashed, sending his boat and a small cruise south into Fruit Islands and also resulting in a DNF. Red crossed the finish line first, taking line honors as I crossed second followed by Arwyn.

On the dock: Riv, Cryptic and Petra.

This weeks North Sea Open Regatta saw a nice turnout, slightly choppy sim weather, and a great spectator turnout. The turnout for both fleets this week was nice with 13 in the small boats and 8 in the large boats portion. The sims themselves behaved for the most part however they did bite a little during the small boat race, causing crashes that results in four DNFs. Spectators continue to turn up in large numbers around The North Sea sims, and along the southern shores of The Eden Naturist Estate to take in the days races.

The small boat fleet, racing on the North Sea Circle course, was made up of a split majority of three Trudeau Patchogue IIs, three TMS Flying Shadows, and three Bandit IFs. Two Shields Class, a Quest Melges-24, and a TMS Laser One rounded out the remainder of the fleet. The fleet got off to a great start as ten of the thirteen were across the start line as 22 seconds ticked off the race clock. Jackson, in his Bandit IF, got things started, crossing the start line first at 00:00:06. Arwyn, in her Trudeau Patchogue II, followed right behind Jackson, crossing the start line at 00:00:07 with Lucy, in her Quest Melges-24, right on her stern at 00:00:08. Carlota, in her Trudeau Patchogue II, was next to cross the start line at 00:00:10 with Neil, in his Bandit IF, on her stern at 00:00:11, and Moon, in his Shields Class, right behind at 00:00:12. Joshue, in his Trudeau Patchogue II, was following them, crossing the start line at 00:00:13, with Traeumer, in his Shields Class, on his stern at 00:00:14. ViV, in her TMS Flying Shadow was next to cross the start line at 00:00:18, followed by Rayz, in his TMS Flying Shadow, at 00:00:22. Peter, in his TMS Laser One, crossed the start line next at 00:00:34, followed by Dess, in her TMS Flying Shadow, at 00:00:55, and Riv, in his Bandit IF, at 00:01:17. The seas turned a bit nippy on the first leg, as Jackson, Arwyn, Joshua, and Riv all would succumb to crashes and record DNFs. Lucy, in her Quest Melges-24, took advantage of the rough sim seas and also her slightly faster M-24 and jumped to the lead of the fleet, holding that position for half the course. Viv, Rayz, and Dess, in their faster TMS Flying Shadows, passed through the fleet and nipped on Lucy’s stern as they gained and on her. Carlota, in her slower Trudeau Patchogue II, fell back in the fleet, taking up position near the rear. Neil, in his slower Bandit IF, fell back in the fleet as well, settling in near Carlota. Moon, and Trauemer, both in Shields Class, settled into the middle of the fleet as Peter, in his TMS Laser One, nipped ahead of them and fell in right behind the faster TMS Flying Shadows and Quest M-24 at the front. Viv and Rayz, both in their TMS Flying Shadows, overtook Lucy, in her Quest Melges-24, at the midway point of the course and started to build a lead at the front of the fleet. Lucy was able to hold off Dess, in her TMS Flying Shadow, just staying ahead of her. Viv crossed the finish line first, taking line honors, with Rayz, crossing second behind her. Lucy crossed the finish line third followed by Dess, Peter, Moon, Traeumer, Neil, and Carlota.

The big boat fleet, racing on the North Sea Butterfly course, was made up of a split majority of two Wildwind RC-44s and two Trudeau 12 Metres. A TMS Ushuaia, a TMS One Design 65, a Bandit 55, and a Wildwind Open 60 made up the rounded out the remainder of the fleet. Once again, the fleet saw a great start as more than half were on the course side of the race line by the time 22 seconds ticked off the race clock. Peter, in his Trudeau 12 Metre, got things underway as he crossed the start line at 00:00:02 followed by Dess, in her Wildwind RC-44, at 00:00:03. Lucy, in her Wildwind RC-44, was next to cross the start line at 00:00:08, followed by Traeumer, in his TMS Ushuaia, at 00:00:10. Gryfin, in his Wildwind Open 60, was next to cross the start line at 00:00:18 followed by Rayz, in his TMS One Design 65, at 00:00:22. Moon, in his Trudeau 12 Metre, was next across the start line at 00:00:41 followed by Riv, in his Bandit 55, at 00:00:45. Lucy, and Dess, both in their faster Wildwind RC-44s, leapt out to the head of the fleet as they battled each other for position with Lucy ultimately coming ahead in the battle. Rayz, in his faster TMS One Design 65, snuck past Peter, in his Trudeau 12 Metre, as the middle of the fleet started to settle. Trauemer, in his slower TMS Ushuaia, took up the rear of the fleet. Gryfin, in his Wildwind Open 60, Moon, in his Trudeau 12 Metre, and Riv, in his Bandit 55, all succumbed to crashes and recorded DNFs. Lucy held her lead over Dess until the finish, as she crossed first, taking line honors. Dess crossed the finish second, followed by Rayz, Peter, and Trauemer.

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Lucy’s favor with having a first place finish over Moon’s third place finish as his best.

Dess (desspaa Resident) and Neil (eager2discover Resident) finished tied with 13 points.

Skipper Race 1 Race 2
desspaa Residentt 9 4
eager2discover Resident 4 9

In the last race, Dess breaks the tie with Neil with her fourth place finish over Neil’s nine point finish.

Jackson (Jacquimo Resident), Arwyn (Arwyn Silverweb), and Joshua (JoshuaMason7 Resident) all finished tied with 19 points. As they all have duplicate finishes in each race (DNF in Small Boats, and DNS in Big Boats) neither A8.1 nor A8.2 will satisfy breaking the tie, therefore they all remain tied in twelfth overall.

Bandit Regatta – February 13th 2017

This weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta saw smooth sim weather with high winds early that calmed down later. The sims behaved marvelously today as we had no crashes. The Bullace region has been given a clean bill of health after LL gave it some TLC on Friday. This was also our monthly There and Back Again series, featuring both race lines located in The North Sea. The wind was a bit high for the first race, at 21kts but died down for the second race, at 15kts. We had a nice turn out of spectators along the shores of Lighthouse Isle, in the Ziziphus region, the shores in the Eden Albatros region, and at the Robbins Reef Lighthouse in the Eden Auk region. This weeks fleet was made up of a majority of seven Bandit IFs with one Bandit 25.

The first race, the There portion on the North Sea Breadnut to Eden Auk course, saw the fleet off to a great start in high winds of 21kts out of the southwest (225°). Jackson, in his Bandit IF, got things started as he crossed the start line at 00:00:02. Carlota, in her Bandit IF, was next to cross the start line at 00:00:12, followed by Red, in her Bandit IF, at 00:00:23. Arwyn, in her Bandit 25, was across the start line next at 00:00:29, followed by Noel, in his Bandit IF, at 00:00:30 and Neil, in his Bandit IF, at 00:00:39. Moon, in his Bandit IF, was next to cross the start line at 00:00::45 with Bonni, in her Bandit IF, crossing at 00:01:04. Arwyn, in her much faster Bandit 25, jumped out ahead of the fleet before the first mark, the green buoy south of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region. Jackson squeaked his way past Carlota, both in Bandit IFs, to settle into second in the fleet. Red, in her Bandit IF, settles in just aft of Carlota with Noel, in his Bandit IF, right on her stern. Neil, in his Bandit IF, was just to their rear as Moon, in his Bandit IF, was at the rear of the fleet. Bonni had to abandon the race, due to a RL commitment, and received a DNF. Arwyn increased her lead and crossed the finish line first, as Jackson crossed shortly after, in second. Carlota crossed the finish line next, followed by Red, Noel, Neil, and Moon.

The second race, the and Back Again portion on the North Sea Eden Auk to Breadnut course, saw the winds die down a bit to 15kts as they shifted direction out of the southeast (135°). Jackson, in his Bandit IF, once again got things started, crossing the start line at 00:00:04. Carlota, in her Bandit IF, was right on his stern, crossing the start line at 00:00:05. Neil, in his Bandit IF, was next to cross the start line at 00:00:13 followed by Red, in her Bandit IF, at 00:00:20. Arwyn, in her Bandit 25, was across the start line next at 00:00:30 followed by Noel, in his Bandit IF, at 00:00:41 and Moon, in his Bandit IF, at 00:01:11. Once again, Arwyn, in her much faster Bandit 25, dashed into the lead. Jackson, in his Bandit IF, was vying for position with Carlota, in her Bandit IF, when he took an ill timed tack to the south and got himself stuck in irons. Carlota took advantage and passed Jackson, as Neil, in his Bandit IF, and Red, in her Bandit IF, did as well. Noel, in his Bandit IF, and Moon, in his Bandit IF, brought up the rear of the fleet. Carlota, Neil and Red, all in their Bandit IFs, engaged in a mini-battle as they all were neck and neck heading to the second course mark, the pink buoy in the Eden Fulmar region. Red pulled off a slick inside turn around the buoy, passing Carlota and Neil, who had both come into the mark zone a bit high. Carlota slipped in just lee of Red, as Neil fell back just aft of them. Carlota and Red would continue to stay neck and neck until the third course mark, the blue buoy in the Sapote region, when Carlota finally got an edge and lead ahead of Red. Arwyn crossed the finish line first, however she missed rounding the blue buoy in the Sapote region correctly and was disqualified. Carlota crossed the finish line next followed by Red, Neil, Noel, Jackson, and Moon.

This weeks Trudeau Patchogue II Class races saw some really stormy sim weather with some yet fun racing. The sims behaved well during the first race, but the Bullace region had an avatar appetite as it ate the entire fleet during the second race. Racing was fun during the first race though, as Carlota and I were neck and neck for most of the course with Arwyn right on our sterns. We also had a nice spectator turn out has a crowd gathered at the committee boat in the Breadnut region, along the shore in the Eden Albatros region, and along the beaches of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region.

The first race, on the NS-CCW course, saw a nice start from the fleet. Carlota got things started as she cross the start line first, at 00:00:04. Joshua was next across the start line at 00:00:11 as I followed right on his stern at 00:00:12. Arwyn was next across the start line at 00:01:11. Carlota took advantage of her lead a the start and paced the fleet for the first part of the course. Joshua wound up crashing as he crossed from the Carob region into the Sapodilla region and recorded a DNF. I moved up into second behind Carlota and slowly made my way up to her position as Arwyn was making her way to mine. By the half way point of the course, the buoy in the Dragonfruit region, I had caught up to Carlota and we both pulled our centerboards on the reach to the green buoy in the Ziziphus region. As we both rounded the green buoy, Carlota went lower downwind than I did, losing precious course time as I was able to pass her before the blue buoy in the Sapote region. Arwyn went higher downwind as well, gaining on Carlota’s position in second. I held my new found lead and crossed the finish line first, taking line honors, as Carlota crossed second and Arwyn crossed third.

The second race, on the North Sea Olympic Course (Long), got off to a nice enough start. Arwyn crossed the start line first this time, at 00:00:08. Carlota was next to cross at 00:00:12, followed by myself at 00:00:15, and Joshua at 00:00:18. Tragedy would soon strike as the Bullace region exhibited a ferocious appetite for avatars. As the entire fleet tacked west to the first course mark, the green buoy south of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region, we all crashed as we sailed through the Bullace region. The entire fleet recorded DNFs as no one survived. The Bullace region had a trouble ticket filed with LL and was subsequently triaged the next day by Linden staff.

North Sea Open Regatta – February 8th 2017

From the left (in boats): Cryptic (Dolphin Moth), Arwyn (Trudeau Patchogue II), Viv (TMS Flying Shadow), Traeumer (Shields Class), and Lucy (Quest Melges-24). On the dock: Alyxx, Cat, Gabi, Joshua, Sandra, and Petra.

From the left (in boats): Cryptic (Dolphin Moth), Arwyn (Trudeau Patchogue II), Viv (TMS Flying Shadow), Traeumer (Shields Class), and Lucy (Quest Melges-24).
On the dock: Alyxx, Cat, Gabi, Joshua, Sandra, and Petra.

This weeks North Sea Open Regatta saw stormy seas early with clearing sim weather and a nice turnout. The sims were wobbly early as over two thirds of the fleet succumbed to DNFs from crashes in the small boat race. After restarted the Bullace region, which was hungrily eating avatars, the big boat race saw smooth sim weather with no DNFs. We had a great turnout this week as we had thirteen show up to race in the small boat fleet. We also had a nice gathering of spectators along the shore in the Eden Albatros region, the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier in the Eden Puffin Region, the committee boat dock in the Breadnut region, along the shores of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region, and even at the Robbins Reef Lighthouse in the Eden Auk region.

The small boat fleet, racing on the NS-CCW course, was comprised of a split majority of three Trudeau Patchogue IIs and three Bandit IFs. Two Shields Class, a Dolphin Moth, a Quest Melges-24, a TMS Flying Shdaow, a TMS Nacra 17, and a TMS Laser One made up the remainder of the small boat fleet. The fleet got off to a great start as Lucy, in her Quest Melges-24, Carlota, in her Trudeau Patchogue II, and Peter, in his TMS Laser One, all crossed the start line together at 00:00:02. I was next, in my Dolphin Moth, at 00:00:05 followed by Lalia, in her TMS Nacra 17, at 00:00:14. Neil, in his Bandit If, was next to cross the start line at 00:00:20 with ViV, in her TMS Flying Shadow, right on his stern, crossing at 00:00:23. Moon, in his Shields Class, was across the start line next at 00:00:28 followed by Joshua, in his Trudeau Patchogue II, at 00:00:33. Traeumer, in his Shields Class, was next to cross the start line at 00:00:38 with Jackson, in his Bandit IF, right behind him at 00:00:50. Noel, in his Bandit IF, was across the start line next at 00:01:25 followed by Arwyn, in her Trudeau Patchogue II, at 00:01:33. I quickly shot out up front, in my faster Dolphin Moth, however as I went through the Bullace region, I crashed and subsequently recorded a DNF. Things continued to get stormy for that region as a majority of the fleet would succumb to crashes in the Bullace region, on the return leg of the course, and record DNFs, among them Carlota, Peter, Lalia, Neil, Moon, Joshua, Traeumer, Jackson, and Arwyn. ViV, in her slightly faster TMS Flying Shadow, would pull ahead of Lucy, in her Quest Melges-24, and maintain a lead for a remainder of the course and cross the finish line first. Lucy was right behind her, crossing the finish line second with Noel, in his Bandit IF, crossing the finish line third.

The big boat fleet, racing on the North Sea Outer Inner Loop (NS-OIL Rev1) course, was made up of a majority of two Trudeau 12 Metres. A Wildwind RC-44, a Quest IACC, a Wildwind Open 60, and a TMS Ushuaia made up the remainder of the big boat fleet. After the Bullace region’s eating spree during the small boat race, it was restarted and behaved itself for the big boat fleet. Lucy, in her Quest IACC, got things started as she crossed the start line at 00:00:07. Peter, in his Trudeau 12 Metre, was next to cross the start line at 00:00:11 followed by Luna, in her Trudeau 12 Metre, at 00:00:14. Arwyn, in her Wildwind Open 60, crossed the start line next at 00:00:17 followed by Moon, in his Wildwind RC-44, at 00:00:25. Trauemer, in his TMS Ushuaia, was next across the start line at 00:01:53. Lucy, in her Quest IACC, took advantage of her great start, holding a lead until she rounded the fourth course marker, the pink buoy in the Elderberry region, incorrectly and followed the string back (the String Rule or Rule 28.2 of the Racing Rules of Sailing 2017-2020) to round it properly, losing several positions in the process. Arwyn, in her Wildwind Open 60, took advantage of Lucy’s misstep and took over the lead of the fleet. Moon, in his Wildwind RC-44, was right on Arwyn’s stern for most of the course. Peter, in his slightly slower Trudeau 12 Metre, settled in at the middle of the fleet with Luna, in her Trudeau 12 Metra, not far off his stern. Traeumer, in his slower TMS Ushuaia, brought up the rear of the fleet. Arwyn crossed the finish line first, taking line honors, with Moon crossing second. Lucy crossed the finish line next, followed by Peter, Luna, and then Traeumer.

ViV (vivipezz Resident), Lucy (LucyInTheSky Afarensis), Luna (LunaAzulejo Resident), and Arwyn (Arwyn Silverweb) all finished tied with 8 points.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
vivipezz Resident 1 7
LucyInTheSky Afarensis 2 6
LunaAzulejo Resident 3 5
Arwyn Silverweb 4 4

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Viv’s favor with having a first place finish over Lucy’s second, Luna’s third, and Arwyn’s fourth point finishes. Subsequently, Lucy’s second place finish breaks her tie with Luna and Arwyn, and Luna’s third place finish breaks her tie with Arwyn.

Carlota (Carlota Dufaux), Cryptic (Cryptic Resident), Lalia (LaliaCasau Resident), Neil (eager2discover Resident), Joshua (JoshuaMason7 Resident), and Jackson (Jacquimo Resident) all finished tied with 11 points. As they all finished with duplicate finishes in each race (DNF and DNS respectively) and neither A8.1 or A8.2 will satisfy breaking the tie, they remain tied together in ninth overall.

Stormy seas and a great spectator turn out featured in this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The North Sea sims, although restarted 3 hours before racing started still were turbulent as they caused several crashes and DNFs in each race. Spectators turnout this week was great as we had crowds gathered at the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier in the Eden Puffin region, the committee boat dock in the Breadnut Region, along the shore in the Eden Albatros region, and along the beaches of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region. This weeks races were also an all Bandit IF affair as the entire fleet was IFs.

The first race, on the North Sea Manta course, saw a nice clean start from the fleet. Carlota, with Gabi, got things underway as she crossed the start line at 00:00:03. Jackson was next across the start line at 00:00:06. Neil was across the start line next at 00:00:13 followed by Markz at 00:00:14. Rayz was next to cross the start line at 00:00:18, followed by Noel, at 00:00:31, Alexandre, at 00:01:33, and Arwyn, with Rurua, at 00:01:48. Carlota, with Gabi, took off, pacing the fleet for the entire course. Jackson was right on her stern up to the first mark in the Sapote region, when his boat stopped responding and he abandoned the race, taking a DNF. Neil was settled in just behind them while Markz and Rayz fought neck and neck until both crashed on crossings, also taking DNFs. Noel was just aft of Markz and Ray, as Alexandre was just on his stern but unfortunately also crashed and recorded a DNF. Arwyn, with Rurua, settled in at the rear of the fleet. Carlota, with Gabi, crossed the finish line first, taking line honors, followed by Neil, crossing second. Noel crossed next followed by Arwyn with Rurua.

The second race, a 3 lap jaunt on the North Sea Short Loop course, saw the majority of the fleet off to a quick start as three quarters of the sailors were across the start line before 28 seconds ticked off the race clock. Noel got things started as he crossed the start line at 00:00:02. Rayz and Alexandre were both next to cross the start line at 00:00:06. Carlota, with Gabi, was across the start line next at 00:00:10. Jackson was next to cross the start line at 00:00:22 followed by Neil at 00:00:27, and Arwyn with Rurua at 00:00:30. Elbag was across the start line next at 00:01:18 with Moon right on his stern at 00:01:19. Carlota, with Gabi, and Alexandre both had cleaner windward lines across the start line and passed Noel on the first leg of the course. Noel settled into third in the fleet as Neil, Jackson, and Rayz were neck and neck on his stern. Jackson unfortunately crashed on a crossing and recorded a DNF. Arwyn, with Rurua, Elbag, and Moon also wound up recording DNFs as Arwyn and Moon crashed, and Elbag’s boat stopped responding causing him to abandon the race. Gabi, crewing for Carlota, wound up crashing during the second lap, leaving Carlota single handed as Alexandre overtook her and gained the lead. Alexandre held onto that lead as he crossed the finish line first, taking line honors. Carlota crossed the finish line second, followed by Noel, Neil, and Rayz.

On the dock: Gabi, Jacqui, Anna, and Petra.

This weeks Trudeau Patchogue II Class races in the North Sea, saw some smooth sim weather turn a little choppy towards the end with some fun racing. The sims behaved really well for the first race, but the Ziziphus region turned soupy during the second as it claimed Joshua to a crash, and a DNF. The racing was close and fun, as the fleet stuck together with several position changes and neck and neck racing through both courses.

The first race, on NS-CCW, saw the fleet get off to a nice start. Joshua, with Anna, and Carlota both crossed the start line first, at 00:00:03. Red, with Adeli, was next across the start line at 00:00:09, while I, with Kaos, crossed just after at 00:00:15. Joshua, with Anna, took a clean line upwind as the rest of us jockeyed for position. Carlota fell back, being the only single handed boat, crew helps with heel angle and therefore speed on Patchogue II’s. I, with Kaos, and Red, with Adeli, stayed neck and neck for most of the course with no discernible advantage to either until the last mark in the Sloe region. As Red, with Adeli, entered the mark zone for the buoy in the Sloe region, Red turned wide, dropping her centerboard late. I, with Kaos, dropped my centerboard just as my boat entered the mark zone and was able to turn inside of Red, then pull my centerboard at the end of the turn to get a jump and a pass ahead of Red. Joshua, with Anna, crossed the finish line first, taking line honors. I, with Kaos, was able to hold a slight lead over Red, with Adeli, as I crossed the finish line second with Red crossing third. Carlota followed across the finish line, in fourth.

The second race, on the North Sea Manta course, saw Carlota pick up Petra as crew. Joshua and Red both went crew-less to go single handed. Red got things started as she crossed the start line at 00:00:07 followed by myself, with Kaos, at 00:00:11. Carlota, with Petra, was next to cross the start line at 00:00:19, with Joshua right on her stern at 00:00:20. Racing was competitive as Red took a clean line on the two upwind tacks while I, with Kaos, was just on her stern as Carlota, with Petra, was right on my stern. Joshua was just aft Carlota and Petra. The fleet held tightly together up to the second mark, the pink buoy in the Eden Fulmar region. On the reach down to the third course mark, the green buoy south of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region, I, with Kaos, and Carlota, with Petra, were both able to take advantage of our crew in helping with the boat’s heel angle, and pass Red. I went to the mark wide, as Carlota went in close turning and losing speed, while I pulled my centerboard early and was able to maintain speed as a swung around the mark to start the reaching leg to the mark in the Sloe region. I held a small lead ahead of Carlota, with Petra, as Red and Joshua were right on her stern. As I approached the fourth course mark, the pink buoy in the Sloe region, the wind shifted slightly and the fleet bunched up as we all rounded the buoy. I again pulled slightly ahead of Carlota, Red, and Joshua heading into the fifth course mark, the blue buoy in the Sapote region. I, with Kaos, stayed on a port tack heading west past the course mark as Carlota, with Petra, followed right on my stern. Joshua and Red both took earlier starboard tacks to head south to the sixth course mark, the green buoy in Ziziphus. I, with Kaos, tacked to port, heading south, in the Muskmelon region, taking a faster wider angle to the sixth course mark and Carlota, with Petra, followed suit. This is when the seas would get a little choppy as Joshua entered the Ziziphus region he crashed on the crossing, unfortunately recording a DNF. Red entered Ziziphus next as I was heading in on a wider faster line, we both met and rounded the green buoy together. I was able to take an inside line around the green buoy, with Red just to my starboard side. Carlota, with Petra, were just on our sterns. The Ziziphus region was not done with it’s storm though, as lag was plenty and the seas seemed like thick syrup. We all sailed on however, and as we all crossed into the Bullace region, the lag subsided. I, with Kaos, slipped into the lead on the run to the finish, as Red held off Carlota, with Petra. I crossed the finish line first, taking line honors, as Red crossed second, mere seconds behind me, and Carlota crossed third.

Race Note:
Joshua (JoshuaMason7 Resident) and Red (RedHeadJO Resident) both finished tied with 5 points.

JoshuaMason7 Resident 1 4
RedHeadJO Resident 2 3

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Joshua’s favor with having a first place finish over Red’s second place finish as her best.

On the dock: Joshua, Ladro, Anne, Petra, and Trace.

Decent sim weather and a great spectator turnout featured in this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. This was third day of the four day planned maintenance period by LL and the sims behaved well with only one DNF on the day due to a crash. We continue to see nice crowds showing up to view the races as the usual spots in the Eden Albatros, Eden Puffin, Breadnut, and Ziziphus regions saw large numbers of spectators gather. We also saw a new racer to the North Sea this week, Ladro (Ladro Slade), who was allowed to tag along with the fleet in a non-handicapped boat in the big boat race.

This weeks small boat fleet, racing on the North Sea Circle course, was made up of a majority of three Bandit IFs. Two Shields Class, two Quest Melges-24s, a Bandit 25, and a Dolphin Moth made up the remainder of the small boat fleet. THe fleet saw a nice start as Bean, in her Quest Melges-24, and Jackson, in his Bandit IF, started things off with both crossing the start line at 00:00:04. I was right behind them, in my Dolphin Moth, crossing the start line at 00:00:05. Carlota, in her Bandit IF, was next to cross the start line at 00:00:11 followed by Dess, in her Shields Class, at 00:00:21, and Neil, in his Bandit IF, at 00:00:26. Traeumer, in his Shields Class, was across the start line next, at 00:00:36. Lucy, in her Quest Melges-24, was next to cross the start line at 00:00:46 followed by Carrie, in her Bandit 25, crossing at 00:00:51. I quickly took to the front of the fleet, in my much faster Dolphin Moth, pacing the pack the entire course. Beane settled in behind me, in her Melges-24, as Jackson, in his Bandit IF, unfortunately crashed and recorded a DNF. Dess and Traeumer, both racing in Shields Class, would fall in next in the fleet, as they made moves past the slightly slower Bandit IFs. Carlota and Neil, both in their Bandit IFs, made of the IF pack as they settled in near the rear of the fleet. Carrie, in her Bandit 25, settled in behind the IFs. Lucy, in her Quest Melges-24, experienced lag issues in her pre-start and out on the course, causing her to abandon the race and record a DNF. I crossed the finish line first, with Beane crossing the finish second shortly after. Dess was next to cross the finish line followed by Traeumer, Carlota, Neil, and Carrie.

The big boat fleet this week, racing on the NS-CCW course, was made up of a split majority of TMS Ushuaias and two TMS One Design 65s with one Wildwind RC-44 as the remainder. We also had Ladro (Ladro Slade), a newcomer to the North Sea, who was allowed to tag along with the fleet in an un-handicapped Michie Marine Ocean 60. The fleet got off to a quick start as Carrie, in her TMS One Design 65, crossed the start line first at 00:00:03 followed by myself, in my TMS Ushuaia, at 00:00:04. Beane, in her TMS One Design 65, was next to cross the start line at 00:00:15. Dess, in her Wildwind RC-44, was across the start line next at 00:00:22 followed by Traeumer, in his TMS Ushuaia, at 00:00:44. Beane, in her TMS One Design 65, quickly charged ahead of the fleet with Carrie, also in a TMS One Design 65, following. I, in my slower TMS Ushuaia, fell back as Dess, in her Wildwind RC-44, leapt ahead to challenge for the lead with Beane and Carrie. Traeumer, in his TMS Ushuaia, settled in right behind me. Dess, in her Wildwind RC-44, then worked her way past the TMS One Design 65s of both Carrie and then Beane to take the lead and cross the finish line first, taking line honors. Beane was across the finish line second, followed by Carrie, myself, and Traeumer.

Today’s winner was Cryptic (Cryptic Resident), with Dess (desspaa Resident) second, and Carlota (Carlota Dufaux) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.

Race Note:
Ladro (Ladro Slade) raced in the big boat race with a Michie Marine Ocean 60, however as that boat is not handicapped, she was allowed to run the course with the fleet but not have her results recorded in the official tally.
Here are her race results:
4: Ladro Slade ID44 — 00:13:47
Lap Time:
Ladro Slade ID44 — Start: 00:00:52 — Last lap: 00:12:55

Carlota (Carlota Dufaux) and Beane (beane Bade) both finished tied with 8 points.

Carlota Dufaux 2 6
beane Bade 3 5

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Carlota’s favor with having a second place finish over Beane’s third place finish as her best.

Traeumer (traeumer66 Resident) and Neil (eager2discover Resident) finished tied with 10 points.

Skipper Race 1 Race 2
traeumer66 Resident 6 4
eager2discover Resident 4 6

In the last race, Traeumer breaks the tie with Neil with his fourth point finish over Neil’s sixth point finish.

Jackson (Jacquimo Resident) and Lucy (LucyInTheSky Afarensis) both finished tied with 14 points. As they both have duplicate finishes that are the same for each race, neither rule A8.1 or A8.2 satisfies breaking their tie, so they remained tied in 8th together overall.
