Bandit Regatta – Mar 27th 2023

Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. With a fresh breeze of 18 knots out of the southwest, The North Sea regions were mostly calm as one DNF (Did Not Finish) was recorded on the day. The lone DNF happened right after the start of the first race, when a skipper pulled his boat on the course side of the start line. The crowds that assembled along the beaches on the island in the Ziziphus region, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on an exciting display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on North Sea Olympic Course (Long) and the North Sea Trapezoid course, was made up of a majority of six Bandit 22 LTEs1. Four Bandit IFs, two sailing single-handed and two crewed respectively, and one Bandit 25R rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.

1As of the publication of these results, the handicap value for the Bandit 22 LTE has been adjust to 0.79, up from 0.78. Please see North Sea Handicap Table for the rest of our handicaps and a link to the Google Sheet used to calculate them.

Today’s winner was Sirius (Sirius Rosca), with Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) second, and Moon (moonglownight Resident) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate and to the SLCG for helping with race duties.

Race Notes:
Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook) and Red (RedHeadJO Resident) finished tied with 16 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

“If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.“

Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. The North Sea regions were well behaved as no DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. The crowds that gathered on the lighthouse observation deck of the island in the Ziziphus region, and along the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, thrilled in the frantic fleet-foiled feline fun on display from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Bowline course and North Sea Olympic Course (Long), was made up of a majority of five The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, three sailing single-handed and two crewed1 respectively. One TMS Nacra 17 rounded out this weeks catamaran fleet.

1As of the publishing of these results, the handicap for the crewed (TMS) Flying Shadow is now 1.38, up from 1.36. Please see North Sea Handicap Table for our handicaps and a link to the Google Sheet used to calculate them.

Second Note:: With the onset of DST in the United States, Canada, and most of Mexico, SL time (PDT) is now one hour ahead. However, Europe will not be entering EU Summer Time until this Sunday, March 26th. In order to facilitate that our races are still at a friendly time for our sailors, we will be running our races one SL hour later, but still at the same time GMT/CET.

Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The North Sea regions were generally well behaved as three DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. One DNF, recorded during the small boat portion, was from a skipper having computer issues causing a reboot in the middle of the race. The remaining two DNFs, also recorded during the small boat portion, were from skippers crashing while crossing over region corners. The crowds that gathered on the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, and along the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, delighted in an entertaining display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on North Sea Olympic Course (Long), was made up of a majority of seven Bandit 22 LTEs. One Bandit 25R, one Quest M-24, one The Mesh Shop (TMS) Nacra 17, and one crewed TMS Star Class rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Butterfly course, was made up of a majority of five TMS I-Mocca 60s. One TMS One Design 65, one TMS Volvo Open 70, and one WildWind RC-44r rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.

Cate (Cate Sewell) and Anthony (AnthonyKingston Resident) registered as a team prior to the start of the race, therefore their points are accredited together.

Sandra (Sandra Nebula) was disqualified during the big boat portion for sailing an incorrect course, missing the first course mark, the blue buoy in the Sapote Region.

Anthony Kingston (anthonykingston Resident) was disqualified during the big boat portion for sailing an incorrect course, missing the fourth course mark, sailing south of the the blue buoy in the Sapote Region instead of north of it.

The lone DNF came from a skipper crashing while crossing over region corners in the second race. The crowds that assembled along the shores on the islands in the Ziziphus, and Genip regions, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, enjoyed an enthused display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea 02 and North Sea 01 courses, was made up of a majority of eight Bandit IFs, seven sailing single-handed and one crewed respectively. Three Bandit 22 LTEs, and one Bandit 25R rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.

Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. With a fresh breeze of 18 knots out of the southwest, turning to 21 knots out of the southeast during the second race, The North Sea regions were calm as no DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. The crowds that gathered on the beaches of the islands in the Ziziphus, and Genip regions, and along the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, delighted in the frenetic fleet-foiled feline frenzy on display from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Manta and the North Sea Cat Fight 02 courses, was made up of six The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, four sailing single-handed and two crewed respectively, in the first race. One single-handed skipper picked up crew for the second race.

The remaining two DNFs, occurring one a piece in each portion respectively, were from skippers crashing while crossing over region corners. The crowds that gathered on the beaches of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, and along the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, took in a thrilling display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Triple Pink course, was made up of a majority of five Bandit 22 LTEs. Two The Mesh Shop (TMS) Star Class, one Bandit 25R, one Quest 2m, one TMS Nacra 17, and one TMS Sea Boss – Rider rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Extreme course, was made up of a small majority of two TMS I-Mocca 60s. One TMS Volvo Open 70, one WildWind Open 60, one WildWind RC-44r, one Isard Machichaco, and one TMS Ocean Beach rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.

Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. With a moderate breeze of 15 knots out of the southwest, rising to a fresh breeze of 18 knots during the second race, The North Sea regions were mostly well behaved as three DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. The first DNF, occurring during the first race, was from a skipper pulling his boat after realizing he was sailing an incorrect course. The second DNF, also occurring during the first race, was from a skipper crashing to her dekstop in the middle of a region, just one region from the finish line. The remaining DNF, occurring during the second race, was from a skipper crashing while crossing over region corners. The crowds that gathered on the lighthouse observation deck on the island in the Ziziphus region, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, took in a peppy display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Copacabana and North Sea Copacabana Reverse courses, was made up of a majority of eleven Bandit 22 LTEs. Three Bandit IFs, and one Bandit 25R rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.

Note:: With the onset of DST in the United States, Canada, and most of Mexico this past Sunday, SL time (PST) is now one hour ahead. However, Europe will not be entering EU Summer Time until Sunday, March 26th. In order to facilitate that our races are still at a friendly time for our sailors, we will be running our races one SL hour later, but still at the same time GMT/CET.

Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. With a fresh breeze of 18 knots out of the southwest, climbing to 21 knots out of the northwest during the second race, The North Sea regions were calm for most as one DNF (Did Not Finish) was recorded on the day. The lone DNF was from a skipper crashing while crossing region corners in the second race. The crowds that gathered on the shores of the island in the Ziziphus region, and along the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on the fit of fleet-foiled feline fury on display from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Bowline Reverse and the North Sea Cat Fight 01 courses, was made up of a majority of five The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, three sailing single-handed and two crewed respectively. One TMS Nacra 17 rounded out this weeks catamaran fleet.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Half Mane Mirror course, was made up of a majority of seven Bandit 22 LTEs. Two The Mesh Shop (TMS) Star Class, one sailing single-handed and one crewed respectively, one TMS Flying Shadow, one TMS Nacra 17, one Bandit 25R, and one Quest 2m rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Double Loop course, was made up of a majority of three TMS I-Mocca 60s. One TMS One Design 65, one TMS Volvo Open 70, one WildWind Open 60, one Trudeau 12 Metre, one Bandit 55, and one Isard Machimacho rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.

Four Bandit IFs, three sailing single-handed and one crewed respectively, one Bandit 25R, and one Bandit 50/3 rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.
