Another week of great sim sailing weather, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. With a fresh breeze of 18 knots coming from the southwest, The North Sea regions were well behaved as no DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. The crowds that gathered on the lighthouse observation deck on the islands in the Ziziphus region, and along the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on a great display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers.
This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea SS-01 course, was made up of a majority of four Bandit 25Rs. Two Bandit 22 LTEs, and one The Mesh Shop (TMS) Star Class rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Double Loop course, was made up of a small majority of two TMS I-Mocca 60s. One TMS Volvo Open 70, one WildWind Open 60, one WildWind RC-44r, and one Bandit 60 rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.

Today’s winner was Julie (JulieRoyale Resident), with Moon (moonglownight Resident) second, and Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate and to the SLCG for helping with racing duties.
Race Notes:
Moon (moonglownight Resident), Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook), and Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) all finished tied with 7 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.“
Skipper | Best Finish | Next Best Finish |
moonglownight Resident | 2 | 5 |
Emileigh Starbrook | 3 | 4 |
Nicole Myhre | 3 | 4 |
With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Moon’s favor with having a second place finish over Emileigh’s and Zimtzicke’s third place finishes as their best.
As Emileigh and Zimtzicke both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this remaining tie:
“If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.“
Skipper | Race 1 | Race 2 |
Emileigh Starbrook | 4 | 3 |
Nicole Myhre | 3 | 4 |
In the last race, Emileigh breaks the tie with Zimtzicke with her third place finish over Zimtzicke’s fourth place finish.
