Calm seas, with a lighter than usual US holiday fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. Today was the Presidents’ Day holiday in the US, which saw real life occupy some of our weekly sailors. With a gentle breeze of 8 knots out of the southwest, building to a moderate breeze of 11 knots during the second race, The North Sea regions were well behaved as no DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. The crowds that gathered on the lighthouse observation deck on the island in the Ziziphus region, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on a competitive display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Olympic Short Mirror course and a two lap affair on the North Sea Short Loop Mirror course, was made up of a majority of four Bandit 22 LTEs. Two Bandit IFs, split evenly with one crewed and one single-handed respectively, rounded out the first race fleet. A 22 skipper opted to switch to her IF for the second race.
