Saturday was a beautiful afternoon, in the middle of a hot summer, with good sailing weather and not a single thunderstorm to be seen. Today we invited several classes to make this Saturday afternoon a special competition. So we had seven Bandit IFs and five Bandit 22 LTEs, all sailing single-handed.
Just like last week, the boats would all start at the same time, but this would lead to two races taking place at the same time.
We had a good start again. Immediately after the start a group of eight boats was formed. It was a nice mix of four Bandit IFs and four Bandit 22s. Between Eden Albatros and Eden Curlew we had two groups. A group of three Bandit 22s and a group of five Bandit IFs, making the mutual battle more visible.
In the second race we had a compact group of eleven boats, a Bandit IF was left behind. At Sapote the whole group was clear and we had another group of Bandit 22s and a group of Bandit Ifs, but this group was more spread over the north sea.
We had three DNFs (Did Not Finish) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.
More pictures after the results.

Note:
Did Not Finish (DNF) = number of finish +1
Did Not Start (DNS) = number of start +1
Today’s winners on the Bandit 22 LTE were Jenna ( jnx1e Resident), with Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook) second, and Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) in third place.
Today’s winners on the Bandit IF were Moon (moonglownight Resident), with Julie (JulieRoyale Resident) second, and Siri (Sirius Rosca) in third place.
Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.
Race Notes:
Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) was disqualified (DSQ) during the first race for sailing an incorrect course, sailing under the two statues, as the statues are the mark in the Eden Gateway region.
Micha (Micha Karfield) was disqualified (DSQ) during the first race for sailing an incorrect course, rounding the Orange Mark clockwise (CW) instead of counter-clockwise (CCW) in the Sapodilla region as indicated by the course.
Micha (Micha Karfield) was disqualified (DSQ) during the second race for finishing the race under protest while failing to complete a 360° penalty turn as instructed by a race director for a 18.2 GIVING MARK ROOM foul.
“18.2 Giving Mark-Room
(b) If boats are overlapped when the first of them reaches the zone, the outside boat at that moment shall
thereafter give the inside boat mark-room. If a boat is clear ahead when she reaches the zone,
the boat clear astern at that moment shall thereafter give her mark-room.“

Moon (moonglownight Resident) and Julie ( JulieRoyale Resident) both finished tied with 3 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores“
Skipper | Race 1 | Race 2 |
moonglownight Resident | 2 | 1 |
JulieRoyale Resident | 1 | 2 |
In the last race, Moon breaks the tie with Julie with his first place finish over Julie’s second place finish
Sirius (Sirius Rosca) and Izi (Izi Shinohara) both finished tied with 7 points.
Sirius Rosca | 4 | 3 |
Izi Shinohara | 3 | 4 |
In the last race, Sirus breaks the tie with Izi with his first place finish over Izi’s second place finish
Jack (Jacquimo Resident), Kim (Kim Farleigh) and Tora (torajiro Whitfield) all finished tied with 12 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.“
Skipper | Best Finish | Next Best Finish |
Jacquimo Resident | 5 | 7 |
Kim Farleigh | 5 | 7 |
torajiro Whitfield | 6 | 6 |
With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Jack and Kim’s favor with having a fifth place finish over Tora’s sixth place finish as his best. As both Jack and Kim have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to further break this tie:
“If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores“
Skipper | Race 1 | Race 2 |
Jacquimo Resident | 5 | 7 |
Kim Farleigh | 7 | 5 |
In the last race, Jack breaks the tie with Kim with his fifth place finish over Kim’s seventh place finish
