Mild seas, with a great fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The regions of The North Sea were calm for most, as five DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. Three of those DNFs occurred during the first race, with two skippers hitting region corners and a third crashing on a region crossing. The remaining two DNFs occurred during the second race, as one skipper pulled his boat due to script errors and another crashed on a region crossing. The excited crowds on the both the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier, in the Eden Jakana region, and on the observation deck of the lighthouse in the Ziziphus region, cheered on this weeks Bandit skippers as they put on a thrilling display of fleet racing. This weeks fleet, sailing on North Sea Olympic Course (Long) and the North Sea Manta course, was comprised of a majority of twelve Bandit 22 LTEs. Four Bandit IFs, three sailing single-handed and one sailing with crew respectively, and two Bandit 25Rs rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.

The fleet rounds the green buoy, south of the island in the Ziziphus region, during the second race of the North Sea Bandit Regatta, on Monday, August 17th, 2020.

Today’s winner was Daenerys (blondij Resident), with Sandra (WWWAAAA Resident) second, and Moon (moonglownight Resident) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate and to the SLCG for helping with race duties.

Race Notes:
Jackson (Jacquimo Resident) was disqualified (DSQ) during the second race for sailing an incorrect course, he missed the second, third, and fourth course marks.

Meireles (Meireles Diabolito) and Fanny (fannydeep Resident) both finished the second race tied at the finishing line with a time of 15:38. As their final time also remains tied, as they both sailed the same boat, Rule A7 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to score this tie:

If boats are tied at the finishing line or if a handicap or rating system is used and boats have equal corrected times, the points for the place for which the boats have tied and for the place(s) immediately below shall be added together and divided equally. Boats tied for a race prize shall share it or be given equal prizes.

Therefore, both Meireles and Fanny receive 11.5 points, as the product for the place for which they have tied and for the place immediately below, 11 and 12, added together and divided equally.

Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) and Kim (Kim Farleigh) both finished the second race tied at the finishing line with a time of 20:05.

Therefore, both Rugger and Kim receive 9.5 points, as the product for the place for which they have tied and for the place immediately below, 9 and 10, added together and divided equally.

Sandra (WWWAAAA Resident), Moon (moonglownight Resident), and Julie (JulieRoyale Resident) all finished tied with 6 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
WWWAAAA Resident 1 5
moonglownight Resident 2 4
JulieRoyale Resident 2 4

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Sandra’s favor with having a first place finish over Moon’s and Julie’s second place finishes as their best. As Moon and Julie both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to further break this tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

Skipper Race 1 Race 2
moonglownight Resident 4 2
JulieRoyale Resident 2 4

In the last race, Moon breaks the tie with Julie with his second place finish over Julie’s fourth place finish.

Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) and Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook) both finished tied with 13 points.

Nicole Myhre 5 8
Emileigh Starbrook 6 7

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Zimtzicke’s favor with having a fifth place finish over Emileigh’s sixth place finish as her best.

Jackson (Jacquimo Resident) and JUN (since20171106 Resident) both finished tied with 24 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
Jacquimo Resident 8 16
