A beautiful Saturday afternoon at the end of a hot summer, with good sailing weather and the wind coming from the west and with no thunderstorm in sight. Also today, we invited several classes to make this Saturday afternoon a special match. We had nine Bandit IFs, one sailing with crew and eight sailing single-handed respectively, and six Bandit 22 LTEs.
Just like last weeks Special Summer Races, the boats all started simultaneously, but this meant two races would take place at the same time with boats competing against their own class.
The two races went pretty smoothly, but we had a ‘massive’ barging at the start of the second race.
Because the wind direction came from a different angle, the barging zone was also different than normal. A skipper should take this into account, apparently this was forgotten in the heat of the start.
We had two DNFs (Did Not Finish) and five DSQs (Disqualififed) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.
More pictures after the results.

Jenna (jnx1e Resident) and Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook) both finished tied with 3 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores“
Skipper | Race 1 | Race 2 |
jnx1e Resident | 2 | 1 |
Emileigh Starbrook | 1 | 2 |
In the last race, Jenna breaks the tie with Emileigh with her first place finish over Emileigh’s second place finish
Lokia (Lokia Float) and JUN (since20171106) both finished tied with 8 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.“
Skipper | Best Finish | Next Best Finish |
Lokia Float | 3 | 5 |
since20171106 | 4 | 4 |
With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Lokia’s favor with having a third place finish over JUN’s forth place finish as his best.
Kim (Kim Farleigh) and Siri (Sirius Rosca ) both finished tied with 9 points.
Kim Farleigh | 6 | 3 |
Sirius Rosca | 3 | 6 |
In the last race, Kim breaks the tie with Siri with her third place finish over Siri’s sixth place finish
