Another week and another great North Sea Open Regatta with mild sim sailing weather and a nice fleet turnout. The regions of the North Sea estate were behaving for most of the sailors as only two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. One DNF was due to a sailor crashing before the finish line in the small boat portion of the regatta. The other DNF was due to a sailor running into the edge of the estate and then pulling her boat in frustration during the big boat portion. Spectators again gathered on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and on several yachts along side the pier in the Eden Lapwing region, as well as at the lighthouse on the island in the Ziziphus region.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on North Sea Olympic Course (Long), was comprised of a slim majority of four The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows. Three Bandit IFs, three Bandit 25Rs, and one TMS Nacra 17 made up the remainder of the small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Counterclockwise (NS CCW) course, was made up of a majority of three TMS Volvo Open 70s. Two Wildwind Open 60s, two TMS Ushuaias, one TMS One Design 65, and one ACA33 made up the remainder of the big boat fleet.

The fleet gets underway at the start of the big boat portion of the North Sea Open Regatta, on Wednesday, May 22nd, 2019.

Race Notes:
Max (Maximiliano Szondi) and Nikki (Nikki Lacrima) finished tied with 15 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

Skipper Race 1 Race 2
Maximiliano Szondi 8 7
Nikki Lacrima 7 8

In the last race, Max breaks the tie with Nikki with his seventh place finish over Nikki’s eighth place finish.
