Turbulent sims greeted the fleet in this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The small boat fleet saw a nice turnout and some nice sailing weather however the sims vastly misbehaved during the big boat portion of the regatta as the entire fleet was recalled. The big boat race was restarted and successfully completed. Starting in the next week, we will be restarting the entire cadre of North Sea estate sims (22 in total) 2 to 3 hours before scheduled races in order to help ensure sim stability during racing periods.

ViV (vivipezz Resident), Beane (beane Bade), and Luna (LunaAzulejo Resident) all finished tied with 7 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.“

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in ViV’s favor with having a second place finish over Beane and Luna’s third place finishes as their best.
Beane and Luna still remain tied with duplicate finishes. Therefore Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.“
