This weeks Trudeau Classic Regatta saw great sailing weather and a nice turnout. The sims behaved for the fleet that assembled as there were no crashes during either race held. Spectator turn out was great as crowds assembled at the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier in the Eden Puffin region, along the beaches in the Eden Albatros region, at Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus Region, and along Turtle Break Surf in the Eden Godwit region. The fleet itself was comprised of three Trudeau Runa IVs and two Trudeau Patchogue IIs.

Race Director: Rosie
Wind: 225° (SW), 9.25 m/s (18kts)

Note:
Did Not Finish (DNF) = number of finish +1
Did Not Start (DNS) = number of start +1

Today’s winner was Sadal (SadalSuub Resident), with Fred (Fred Uralia) second, and Moon (moonglownight Resident) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.

Race Notes:
Rosie (Arwyn Silverweb) and Cryptic (Cryptic Resident) both finished tied with 10 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
Arwyn Silverweb 4 6
Cryptic Resident 5 5

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Rosie’s favor with having a fourth place finish over Cryptic’s fifth place finish as her best.

From the left (in Patchogue IIs): Rugger, Ellem, Cor, Burton, Red, and Neil.
On the dock: Cryptic.

This weeks Trudeau Patchogue II class races featured great sim weather with some really spirited racing. The sims behaved themselves well with no DNFs or crashes on the day. We also saw a nice turnout of spectators, as people gathered along the shore in the Eden Albatros region and also along the beaches of Lighthouse Isle, in the Ziziphus region, to watch the fleet on both courses. Petra was to direct this race but circumstances out of her control tied her up and I directed the race in her place. We would also like to welcome Ellem to racing in SL as these were her first races as a skipper.

The first race, on the North Sea Breadnut to Eden Auk course, saw the fleet get off to a great start as all 5 boats were across the start line as 26 seconds ticked off the race clock. Ellem started her race career off well, getting the fleet started as she crossed the start line at 00:00:03. Burton was next to cross the start line at 00:00:15, followed by Red, crossing at 00:00:24. Cor and Neil were next across the start line, crossing together at 00:00:26. The fleet stayed tightly packed along the first leg to the first course mark, the green buoy south of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region. Red made her move, after rounding the course mark, and passed Cor, as Neil, Ellem, and Burton followed. Red held onto her small lead as she crossed the finish line, in the Eden Auk region, first, followed by Cor, crossing second. Neil crossed the finish line next, in third, followed by Ellem, crossing in fourth, and Burton, crossing in fifth.

The second race, on the North Sea Eden Auk to Breadnut course, saw the wind change for the fleet, from the 225°(SW) 18 knots of the first race to 135°(SE) 18 knots. This time Cor got things started for the fleet, as he crossed the start line at 00:00:12. Burton was next to cross the start line at 00:00:17, followed by Neil, crossing at 00:00:20, Red, crossing at 00:00:22, and Ellem, crossing at 00:00:53. Cor kept on a starboard tack, heading east and then finally tacking south, in the Eden Albatros sim, while the rest of the fleet tacked to port in the Eden Fulmar region, heading south early. Red lead the fleet that tacked south early, followed by Neil, Ellem, and Burton, who fell back after getting stuck in irons as he tacked. As everyone converged ont he first course mark, the green buoy south of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region, Cor and Red met up at the mark, both side by side as the cleared the mark, with Neil right on their stern. Red, Cor, and Neil remained tightly packed as they all approached the second course mark, the pink buoy in the Eden Fulmar region, with Cor coming out slightly ahead after all three rounded the mark. Ellem followed just to the rear with Burton closing in behind her. Ellem’s lead over Burton slipped as Burton passed her on the final leg to the finish line. Cor would hold his slight lead as he crossed the finish line first, followed by Red in second, Neil crossing third, Burton in fourth, and Ellem in fifth.

Trudeau Patch II Class Racing – July 6th 2017

This weeks Trudeau Patchogue II class races saw some nice sim weather with great racing. The sims behaved themselves and we saw no crashes on the day. We also saw a nice turnout of spectators, continuing a trend for all our races in the North Sea, as people gathered along the shore in the Eden Albatros region and also along the beaches of Lighthouse Isle, in the Ziziphus region, to watch the fleet on both courses.

Petra was to direct this race but a thunderstorm in her area decided otherwise as her connection would not hold for her. I directed the race in her place. In the rush, I neglected to take a photo for our results post.

This was also Rugger’s first day owning a Trudeau Patchogue II and first race in one. He’s recently been infected with the sailing and racing bug and we are really happy to see him enjoying different boats.

This weeks Trudeau Patchogue II Class races saw some really stormy sim weather with some yet fun racing. The sims behaved well during the first race, but the Bullace region had an avatar appetite as it ate the entire fleet during the second race. Racing was fun during the first race though, as Carlota and I were neck and neck for most of the course with Arwyn right on our sterns. We also had a nice spectator turn out has a crowd gathered at the committee boat in the Breadnut region, along the shore in the Eden Albatros region, and along the beaches of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region.

The first race, on the NS-CCW course, saw a nice start from the fleet. Carlota got things started as she cross the start line first, at 00:00:04. Joshua was next across the start line at 00:00:11 as I followed right on his stern at 00:00:12. Arwyn was next across the start line at 00:01:11. Carlota took advantage of her lead a the start and paced the fleet for the first part of the course. Joshua wound up crashing as he crossed from the Carob region into the Sapodilla region and recorded a DNF. I moved up into second behind Carlota and slowly made my way up to her position as Arwyn was making her way to mine. By the half way point of the course, the buoy in the Dragonfruit region, I had caught up to Carlota and we both pulled our centerboards on the reach to the green buoy in the Ziziphus region. As we both rounded the green buoy, Carlota went lower downwind than I did, losing precious course time as I was able to pass her before the blue buoy in the Sapote region. Arwyn went higher downwind as well, gaining on Carlota’s position in second. I held my new found lead and crossed the finish line first, taking line honors, as Carlota crossed second and Arwyn crossed third.

The second race, on the North Sea Olympic Course (Long), got off to a nice enough start. Arwyn crossed the start line first this time, at 00:00:08. Carlota was next to cross at 00:00:12, followed by myself at 00:00:15, and Joshua at 00:00:18. Tragedy would soon strike as the Bullace region exhibited a ferocious appetite for avatars. As the entire fleet tacked west to the first course mark, the green buoy south of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region, we all crashed as we sailed through the Bullace region. The entire fleet recorded DNFs as no one survived. The Bullace region had a trouble ticket filed with LL and was subsequently triaged the next day by Linden staff.

This weeks Trudeau Patchogue II Class races in the North Sea, saw some smooth sim weather turn a little choppy towards the end with some fun racing. The sims behaved really well for the first race, but the Ziziphus region turned soupy during the second as it claimed Joshua to a crash, and a DNF. The racing was close and fun, as the fleet stuck together with several position changes and neck and neck racing through both courses.

The first race, on NS-CCW, saw the fleet get off to a nice start. Joshua, with Anna, and Carlota both crossed the start line first, at 00:00:03. Red, with Adeli, was next across the start line at 00:00:09, while I, with Kaos, crossed just after at 00:00:15. Joshua, with Anna, took a clean line upwind as the rest of us jockeyed for position. Carlota fell back, being the only single handed boat, crew helps with heel angle and therefore speed on Patchogue II’s. I, with Kaos, and Red, with Adeli, stayed neck and neck for most of the course with no discernible advantage to either until the last mark in the Sloe region. As Red, with Adeli, entered the mark zone for the buoy in the Sloe region, Red turned wide, dropping her centerboard late. I, with Kaos, dropped my centerboard just as my boat entered the mark zone and was able to turn inside of Red, then pull my centerboard at the end of the turn to get a jump and a pass ahead of Red. Joshua, with Anna, crossed the finish line first, taking line honors. I, with Kaos, was able to hold a slight lead over Red, with Adeli, as I crossed the finish line second with Red crossing third. Carlota followed across the finish line, in fourth.

The second race, on the North Sea Manta course, saw Carlota pick up Petra as crew. Joshua and Red both went crew-less to go single handed. Red got things started as she crossed the start line at 00:00:07 followed by myself, with Kaos, at 00:00:11. Carlota, with Petra, was next to cross the start line at 00:00:19, with Joshua right on her stern at 00:00:20. Racing was competitive as Red took a clean line on the two upwind tacks while I, with Kaos, was just on her stern as Carlota, with Petra, was right on my stern. Joshua was just aft Carlota and Petra. The fleet held tightly together up to the second mark, the pink buoy in the Eden Fulmar region. On the reach down to the third course mark, the green buoy south of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region, I, with Kaos, and Carlota, with Petra, were both able to take advantage of our crew in helping with the boat’s heel angle, and pass Red. I went to the mark wide, as Carlota went in close turning and losing speed, while I pulled my centerboard early and was able to maintain speed as a swung around the mark to start the reaching leg to the mark in the Sloe region. I held a small lead ahead of Carlota, with Petra, as Red and Joshua were right on her stern. As I approached the fourth course mark, the pink buoy in the Sloe region, the wind shifted slightly and the fleet bunched up as we all rounded the buoy. I again pulled slightly ahead of Carlota, Red, and Joshua heading into the fifth course mark, the blue buoy in the Sapote region. I, with Kaos, stayed on a port tack heading west past the course mark as Carlota, with Petra, followed right on my stern. Joshua and Red both took earlier starboard tacks to head south to the sixth course mark, the green buoy in Ziziphus. I, with Kaos, tacked to port, heading south, in the Muskmelon region, taking a faster wider angle to the sixth course mark and Carlota, with Petra, followed suit. This is when the seas would get a little choppy as Joshua entered the Ziziphus region he crashed on the crossing, unfortunately recording a DNF. Red entered Ziziphus next as I was heading in on a wider faster line, we both met and rounded the green buoy together. I was able to take an inside line around the green buoy, with Red just to my starboard side. Carlota, with Petra, were just on our sterns. The Ziziphus region was not done with it’s storm though, as lag was plenty and the seas seemed like thick syrup. We all sailed on however, and as we all crossed into the Bullace region, the lag subsided. I, with Kaos, slipped into the lead on the run to the finish, as Red held off Carlota, with Petra. I crossed the finish line first, taking line honors, as Red crossed second, mere seconds behind me, and Carlota crossed third.

Race Note:
Joshua (JoshuaMason7 Resident) and Red (RedHeadJO Resident) both finished tied with 5 points.

This weeks Trudeau Patchogue Class II races, in the North Sea, saw some fun racing and slightly stormy seas towards the end. We had a nice turnout of racers who made for competitive racing, in the Trudeau Patchogue II, in both races. The sims themselves behaved for the first race but turned a bit choppy for the second race as we had two crashes resulting in DNFs. We had another great spectator turnout this week as visitors crowded the beaches in the Eden Albatros region, and along the beaches on Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region.

The first race, on the NS-CCW course, saw quick start as the entire fleet was across the start line as 11 seconds ticked off the race clock. Kurt got things going right away with a perfect start at 00:00:00. Peter, with Luna as crew, was right on Kurt’s stern, crossing the start line at 00:00:01. Petra was next to cross the start line at 00:00:03. I crossed the start line next, with Kaos as my crew, at 00:00:09. Joshua, with Nonna as his crew, was next to cross the line at 00:00:11. Kurt quickly took a nice line in clean wind and held his lead for the duration of the course. Petra settled in just behind Kurt. I, with Kaos, caught up to Peter, with Nonna, and held tight to his stern until I passed him on the reaching leg to the mark in the Sloe region. I continued my progress as I nipped on Petra’s stern to the finish. Kurt, holding his lead on the fleet, crossed the finish line first and took line honors. Petra, with myself with Koas, made for a photo finish as we both crossed the finish line nearly together, with Petra edging me by a mere split second. Peter, with Nonna was next to cross the finish line. Joshua, after crossing the finish line, disqualified himself in a show of good sailsmanship after realizing he had committed a leeward/windward Right of Way (ROW) violation at the start, informally called barging, and not done a 360° penalty turn for it.

The second race, on the North Sea Manta course, saw a challenging start by the fleet as two had to double around, one over the line early and the other preventing hitting the committee boat. Peter, with Luna, was across the line early by a mere second and had to circle around to get a proper start. Petra, while trying to get a good line along the green lay line to the start line, was too far windward and had to also circle away to prevent hitting the committee boat. Joshua, sailing single handed now, was across the start line first at 00:00:01. I, now also sailing single handed, was next to cross the start line at 00:00:03. Gabi, with Carlota as crew, was next across the start line at 00:00:12 followed by Kurt, at 00:00:13. Petra was across the start line next at 00:00:21 followed by Peter, with Luna, at 00:00:32. Joshua took a clean line in the wind out of the start with myself right on his stern. However, Gabi, with Carlota, sped past us both on the first beating leg to the blue buoy course mark in the Sapote region. Unfortunately, this is when the sims turned slightly choppy, as Gabi and Carlota would both crash and record a DNF as they crossed the region border from the Sapote region in to the Mammea region. Joshua would succumb to the choppiness as well, as he was frozen on the crossing and went skyward, before plopping down into the water as I crossed the border. The choppiness continued for Joshua as he abandoned the race at this point and took a DNF. I was left at the head of the fleet, with Kurt, Peter and Luna, and Petra all right behind me. The order continued like this until the final running leg from the green buoy south of Lighthouse isle, in the Ziziphus region, when Petra would take a better line to the finish line and passed Peter, with Luna. I crossed the finish line first, taking line honors, with Kurt crossing the line second just behind me. Petra was next to cross the finish line followed by Peter, with Luna.

Smooth sim weather and and some fun racing featured in this weeks Trudeau Patch II Class races in the North Sea. We had a nice crowd gathered on the committee boat dock in Breadnut along with some revelers on the beach at Eden Alabtros to watch these fun boats race. The sims themselves behaved well as we had no crashes on the day.

Race 1, on the newly created NS-CCW course (courtesy of Julia), saw the fleet get off to a great start as everyone was across the start line before 22 seconds ticked off the race clock. Petra, with Peachie as crew, got things started as she crossed the start line first at 00:00:03. Peter was next to cross the start line at 00:00:10, followed by Red, at 00:00:12, and Joshua, at 00:00:16. Moon was next across the start line at 00:00:18, followed by myself, with Kaos as crew, at 00:00:21. Red unfortunately had a mis-configured race ID, and didn’t get recorded by the race line, noticing this she moored on the course side of the line and took a DNF. Petra took full advantage of her great start and lead the fleet for the entire course. As these boats do balance slightly better with crew, I was able to make up some lost ground on the rest of the fleet and pass both Peter and Moon, who were racing single handed. Joshua lay before me as we kept up a tight race, changing positions several times. Petra, with Peachie, crossed the finish line first, recording line honors. Joshua and I, with Kaos, would be next, recording a photo finish as I crossed the finish line one second ahead of Joshua. Peter was next to cross the finish line followed by Moon.

Race 2, on the North Sea Trapezoid course, saw another great fleet start as everyone was across the start line before 14 seconds ticked off the race clock. Peter got things started with a nearly perfect 00:00:01 across the start line. Red, now with Carlota as crew, crossed the start line next at 00:00:06. Joshua, now with Gabi as crew, was next to cross the start line at 00:00:10, followed by myself, with Kaos as crew, at 00:00:13. Joshua, with Gabi, and myself, with Kaos, both quickly jumped to the head of the fleet as we both took lines to the windward side of the fleet in clean air. Peter was next, sailing single handed, and Red, with Carlota, was close behind. This order would hold for the rest of the course, as Joshua, with Gabi, crossed the finish line first, recording line honors, as I crossed the line second, with Kaos. Peter was next to cross the finish line followed by Red, with Carlota.

The first Trudeau Patchogue Class Races in the North Sea for 2017 turned out wonderfully. The sims behaved well for all of our fleet with no crashes or DNFs. We also had a splendid turnout of spectators in the Eden Puffin, Eden Albatros, Ziziphus, and Breadnut regions.

The first race, run on the NS-WC Rch course, saw a great start from the entire fleet as everyone got under way before 20 seconds had ticked off the race clock. Peter was across the line first, at 00:00:01, followed immediately by Kurt, at 00:00:02. I was next to cross the start line, at 00:00:05, followed by Asami, at 00:00:12, and finally Joshua, at 00:00:17. I took the optimum line on the first leg and took the lead at the first marker, the green buoy south of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region. Peter was right on my stern followed by Joshua, Kurt, and Asamai. As we neared the orange buoy in the Eden Puffin region, the second mark for the course, Joshua and Kurt had passed Peter. I was held the lead for the rest of the course, crossing the finish line first, with line honors. Joshua crossed the finish line in second, seconds behind me. Kurt crossed the finish line third, followed by Peter and then Asami.

The second race, run on the North Sea Manta course, saw a bit of a rough start for the fleet. Peter and Joshue both crossed the start line, mere seconds early, and had to circle around to start again. Kurt got things started, crossing the line at 00:00:02, with Asami following along at 00:00:06. I was next to cross the line at 00:00:10. Joshua and Peter, both having circled to re-start crossed the start line at 00:00:22 and 00:00:28 respectively. Kurt and I were neck and neck around the first mark, the blue buoy in the Sapote region, as Asami, Peter, and Joshua followed close behind. Kurt and I stayed nearly side by side as we pulled the center boards on the Patchogue and surfed towards the second mark, the pink buoy in the Eden Fulmar region. On the beat towards the third mark, the green buoy south of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region, Kurt and I were still neck and neck until we rounded the mark and I got the edge and better puff of wind, as I surfed into the lead. That lead would not last as Josh had passed Asami by this point to catch up with Kurt, who both were just on my stern as we surfed, centerboards up, to the third mark. Josh and Kurt both got better turns around the mark, turning inside of me as I slid back to third. As all three of us surfed up along the reach to the fourth mark, the blue buoy again in the Sapote region, we were all nearly neck and neck. This order would hold as we rounded the fourth and fifth marks. After rounding the fifth mark, the green buoy again south of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region, I took a slightly better line to the finish as I passed Kurt. Joshua crossed the finish line first, taking line honors. I crossed the finish line second, right on Joshua’s stern with Kurt crossing third, just after me. Asami crossed the finish line fourth and Peter fifth.

This weeks Trudeau Patchogue II Class Racing was the final event in the Eden Trudeau Regatta Week. We saw a great turnout with storm of sim in the first race but clearing weather in the second race. We also saw another great spectator turnout, with many showing up along the beach in the Eden Albatros region, at the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier in the Eden Puffin region, the committee boat dock in the Breadnut region, and along the beaches of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region.

The first race, on the North Sea Butterfly course, got off to a great start. However, towards the final leg of the course, as every racer entered the Nectarine region, they crashed. All recorded DNFs and it was decided to abandon race 1 with no points awarded. The second race, on the North Sea Copacabana course, saw the sims performing marvelously as no DNFs were recorded and close exciting racing prevailed.
