With a fresh breeze of 18 knots out of the southwest, The North Sea regions behaved well as two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. The first DNF, occurring during the small boat portion, was due to a skipper pulling her boat after her connection started to fail. Calm to choppy seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The North Sea regions for behaved for most, with one DNF (Did Not Finish) recorded on the day. The lone DNF was due to a skipper pulling her boat after experiencing several sudden stops at region crossings, which appears to still be a rare and random occurrence since Linden Research™ moved Secondlife™ to Amazon servers. The crowds that assembled along the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier in the Eden Jakana region, reveled in the spirited display of fleet racing on display from this weeks skippers.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Copacabana course, was made up of a split majority of three The Mesh Shop (TMS) Nacra 17s and three Bandit IFs, two sailing single handed and one sailing crewed respectively. One Bandit 22 LTE, one crewed TMS Star Class, and one ReneMarine Clever rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Circle course, was made up of a small majority of three TMS I-Mocca 60s. Two WildWind Open 60s, one TMS One Design 65, one Bandit 55, and one Trudeau 12 Metre rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.

Red (RedHeadJO Resident) and Cate (Cate Sewell) both finished the small boat portion tied with a final time of 0:12:55. As the final time result is rounded to the nearest whole second in the Google Sheet, the exact final times for each skipper are: (race time multiplied by handicap equaling final time, all time in seconds)

Skipper Race Time Handicap Final Time
RedHeadJO 1336 0.58 774.88
Cate 1007 0.77 775.39

With the final times shown in seconds, the tie breaks in Red’s favor with having a 774.88 seconds finish over Cate’s 775.39 seconds finish. Just to note, if both skippers final times had been an exact tie, Rule A7 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing would be used to break that tie instead:

If boats are tied at the finishing line or if a handicap or rating system is used and boats have equal corrected times, the points for the place for which the boats have tied and for the place(s) immediately below shall be added together and divided equally. Boats tied for a race prize shall share it or be given equal prizes.

Cate and Anthony (Cate Sewell/Anthony) and Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) finished tied with 9 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

Skipper Race 1 Race 2
Cate Sewell/Anthony 6 3
Nicole Myhre 3 6

In the last race, Cate and Anthony break the tie with Zimtzicke with their third place finish over Zimtzicke’s sixth place finish.

Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook) and Kiki (Kei Frequency) both finished tied with 17 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish

Amy Pond (Montserrat Naidoo) and Max (Maximiliano Szondi) both finished tied with 23 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish

Jackson (Jacquimo Resident) and Erika (ErikaTwinkle Resident) both finished tied with 30 points. As they both have the exact same finishes, a DNF (Did Not Finish) during the small boat portion and a DNS (Did Not Start) during the big boat portion respectively, neither Rule A8.1 or Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing will satisfy breaking their tie. Therefore, Jackson and Erika remain tied in seventeenth place overall.

In the last race, Emileigh breaks the tie with Moon with her third place finish over Moon’s fifth place finish.

Sirius (Sirius Rosca) and Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) both finished tied with 10 points.

Sirius Rosca 2 8
Nicole Myhre 4 6

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Sirius’s favor with having a second place finish over Zimtzicke’s fourth place finish as her best.

Rider (Rider Wilder), Diana (Dianafra Allen), and Palani (Palani Allen) all finished tied with 22 points.

Rider Wilder 9 13
Dianafra Allen 10 12
Palani Allen 10 12

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Rider’s favor with having a ninth place finish over Diana’s and Palani’s tenth place finishes as their best. As Emileigh and Moon both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this remaining tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

Skipper Race 1 Race 2
Dianafra Allen 12 10
Palani Allen 10 12

In the last race, Diana breaks the tie with Palani with her tenth place finish over Palani’s twelfth place finish.
