Smooth seas and extended eligibility list highlighted this weeks Trudeau Classic Regatta in The North Sea. The sims again remained calm for the fleet as no DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded do to crashing. We also broadened the eligibility of boats allowed in the Trudeau Classic Regatta by including all the Trudeaus present on The North Sea Handicap Table. This week’s fleet was comprised of a majority of three Trudeau Patchogue IIs with one lone Trudeau One making up the remainder.

Trudeau Classic Regatta – Feb 8th 2018

This weeks Trudeau Classic Regatta saw some smooth sim weather with a great crowd turnout. The sims behaved for both races as there were no crashes recorded (Joshua had RL grab him for a DNF in the first race). Spectators crowded along the beaches of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region and along the beaches in the Eden Albatros region to watch the Trudeau fleet in action. This weeks fleet was composed of four Patchogue IIs in the first race with two Runa IVs joining in the second race.

This weeks Trudeau Patchogue II Class Races turned into the Trudeau Classic Regatta as we raced the new Trudeau Runa IV along side the Patchogue II. Spectators turned out in large numbers to watch the new gaff rigged yawl put through her paces along the shores of Eden, gathering at Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus Region, the beaches in the Eden Albatros region, and the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier in the Eden Puffin region. The sims themselves started out slightly choppy, as three DNFs were attributed to crashes during the first race. The sim weather settled down, however, as smooth seas were prevalent during the second race. The fleet today was comprised of six Patchgoue IIs and six Runa IVs for the first race, with Kayo switching from her Runa IV to her Patchogue II in the second race.

From the left (in Trudeau boats): Cryptic (Runa IV), Rosie (Patchogue II), Laured (Patchogue II), Sophie (Patchogue II), Kristaly (Runa IV), Cor (Runa IV), Kayo (Runa IV), and Ultra (Runa IV). On the dock: Josh, Roama, Penny, Analyse, and Petra.

From the left (in Trudeau boats): Cryptic (Runa IV), Rosie (Patchogue II), Laured (Patchogue II), Sophie (Patchogue II), Kristaly (Runa IV), Cor (Runa IV), Kayo (Runa IV), and Ultra (Runa IV).
On the dock: Josh, Roama, Penny, Analyse, and Petra.

The first race, on the North Sea Olympic Course (Long), was used as the handicapping race for the Runa IV. The data gleaned from today resulted in the Runa IV receiving a handicap of 0.57 (All North Sea handicaps can be seen here North Sea Handicap Table). The fleet got off to a moderate start as some sailors were still getting used to their new Runa IVs and the Patchogue pack navigated among the larger yachts not usually present during this race. I got things started as I got my Runa IV across the start line at 00:00:13. Rosie, in her Patchogue II, was next to cross the start line at 00:00:22, followed by Ultra, in his Runa IV, at 00:00:34. Rugger, in his Patchogue II, was across the start line next at 00:00:34, followed by Neil, in his Patchogue II, at 00:00:42. Kayo, in her Runa IV, was next to cross the start line at 00:00:42, followed by Cor, in his Runa IV, at 00:00:54. Laured, in her Patchogue II, was across the start line next at 00:00:54, followed by Moon, in his Patchogue II, at 00:01:06, and Sophie, in her Patchogue II, at 00:01:09. Looralie and Kristaly, both in Runa IVs, were next to cross the start line at 00:01:16 and 00:01:39. I was in clean air as I got across the start line first and closest to the committee boat, in my Runa IV, and sprinted on, leading the fleet for the entire course. Rosie, in her Patchogue II, benefited from crossing right after me as she was in clean air herself and settled in behind me before the swifter upwind Runa IVs of Cor and Kristaly caught up and passed her. Ultra, in his Runa IV, fell back slightly in the fleet as Neil, in his Patchogue II, and Looralie, in her Runa IV, both made moves to pass him. Laured, in her Patchogue II, settled in just aft of Ultra with Rugger, in his Patchogue II, taken up the rear of the fleet. Kayo, in her Runa IV, Moon, in his Patchogue II, and Sophie, in her Patchogue II, all succumbed to crashes and recorded DNFs. I was first across the finish line, taking line honors, with Cor crossing the finish second. Kristaly crossed the finish line third, followed by Rosie, Neil, Looralie, Ultra, Laured, and Rugger.

The second race, on the North Sea Circle course, saw the fleet getting more comfortable with the Runa IVs. The fleet got off to a quicker start than they did in the first race with 9 of the 12 racers across the start line as 26 seconds ticked off the race clock. Kayo, now in her Patchogue II after using her Runa IV in the first race, got things started as she crossed the start line at 00:00:02. Laured, in her Patchogue II, and myself, in my Runa IV, were both next to cross the start line at 00:00:03. Kristaly, in her Runa IV, was across the start line next at 00:00:08 followed by Neil, in his Patchogue II, at 00:00:11. Rugger, in his Patchogue II, was next to cross the start line at 00:00:15, with Sophie, in her Patchogue II, right on his stern at 00:00:16. Moon, in his Patchogue II, was across the start line next at 00:00:23, followed by Cor, in his Runa IV, at 00:00:26. Rosie, in her Patchogue II, was next to cross the start line at 00:00:40, followed by Ultra, in his Runa IV, at 00:00:58, and Looralie in her Runa IV, at 00:01:10. Kayo, in her Patchogue II, and I, in my Runa IV, both crossed the start line closest to the committee boat on the windward side of the line putting us in clean air. However, Kayo wound up in my wind shadow as I was windward of her causing her to fall back as I took the lead. Kristaly, in her Runa IV, crossed the start line on the far leeward side, and was in clean air herself, taking up second as we both sprinted upwind towards the first tack to head west to the radio station island in the Soncoya region. Laured, in her Patchogue II, and Neil, in his Patchogue II, both fought closely as they settled in behind Kayo. Rugger, in his Patchogue II, got stuck in the wind shadow of several Runa IVs and fell back to the rear of the fleet. Sophie and Moon, both in Patchogue IIs, suffered the same fate as they settled in just ahead of Rugger, after having fallen back, with Moon leading Sophie. Cor, in his Runa IV, made moves to pass several as he ultimately settled in just aft of Kayo. Rosie, in her Patchogue II, was locked in a position battle with Ultra, in his Runa IV, for most of the course, with Ultra ultimately passing her. Kristaly, in her Runa IV, and myself, in my Runa IV, were locked in a battle for the entire course as Kristaly was right on my stern with her bowsprit nearly touching my boomkin on several occasions as we rounded the island marks on the course. I held on to squeak out a small lead and crossed the finish line first, taking line honors, as Kristaly crossed the finish line second. Kayo crossed the finish line third followed by Cor, Neil, Laured, Looralie, Ultra, Rosie, Moon, Sohpie, and Rugger.

From the left (in Patchogue IIs): Rugger, Ellem, Cor, Burton, Red, and Neil.
On the dock: Cryptic.

This weeks Trudeau Patchogue II class races featured great sim weather with some really spirited racing. The sims behaved themselves well with no DNFs or crashes on the day. We also saw a nice turnout of spectators, as people gathered along the shore in the Eden Albatros region and also along the beaches of Lighthouse Isle, in the Ziziphus region, to watch the fleet on both courses. Petra was to direct this race but circumstances out of her control tied her up and I directed the race in her place. We would also like to welcome Ellem to racing in SL as these were her first races as a skipper.

The first race, on the North Sea Breadnut to Eden Auk course, saw the fleet get off to a great start as all 5 boats were across the start line as 26 seconds ticked off the race clock. Ellem started her race career off well, getting the fleet started as she crossed the start line at 00:00:03. Burton was next to cross the start line at 00:00:15, followed by Red, crossing at 00:00:24. Cor and Neil were next across the start line, crossing together at 00:00:26. The fleet stayed tightly packed along the first leg to the first course mark, the green buoy south of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region. Red made her move, after rounding the course mark, and passed Cor, as Neil, Ellem, and Burton followed. Red held onto her small lead as she crossed the finish line, in the Eden Auk region, first, followed by Cor, crossing second. Neil crossed the finish line next, in third, followed by Ellem, crossing in fourth, and Burton, crossing in fifth.

The second race, on the North Sea Eden Auk to Breadnut course, saw the wind change for the fleet, from the 225°(SW) 18 knots of the first race to 135°(SE) 18 knots. This time Cor got things started for the fleet, as he crossed the start line at 00:00:12. Burton was next to cross the start line at 00:00:17, followed by Neil, crossing at 00:00:20, Red, crossing at 00:00:22, and Ellem, crossing at 00:00:53. Cor kept on a starboard tack, heading east and then finally tacking south, in the Eden Albatros sim, while the rest of the fleet tacked to port in the Eden Fulmar region, heading south early. Red lead the fleet that tacked south early, followed by Neil, Ellem, and Burton, who fell back after getting stuck in irons as he tacked. As everyone converged ont he first course mark, the green buoy south of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region, Cor and Red met up at the mark, both side by side as the cleared the mark, with Neil right on their stern. Red, Cor, and Neil remained tightly packed as they all approached the second course mark, the pink buoy in the Eden Fulmar region, with Cor coming out slightly ahead after all three rounded the mark. Ellem followed just to the rear with Burton closing in behind her. Ellem’s lead over Burton slipped as Burton passed her on the final leg to the finish line. Cor would hold his slight lead as he crossed the finish line first, followed by Red in second, Neil crossing third, Burton in fourth, and Ellem in fifth.

Trudeau Patch II Class Racing – July 6th 2017

This weeks Trudeau Patchogue II class races saw some nice sim weather with great racing. The sims behaved themselves and we saw no crashes on the day. We also saw a nice turnout of spectators, continuing a trend for all our races in the North Sea, as people gathered along the shore in the Eden Albatros region and also along the beaches of Lighthouse Isle, in the Ziziphus region, to watch the fleet on both courses.

Petra was to direct this race but a thunderstorm in her area decided otherwise as her connection would not hold for her. I directed the race in her place. In the rush, I neglected to take a photo for our results post.

This was also Rugger’s first day owning a Trudeau Patchogue II and first race in one. He’s recently been infected with the sailing and racing bug and we are really happy to see him enjoying different boats.

This weeks Trudeau Patchogue II class races saw smooth sim weather with some really fun racing. The sims behaved well as there were no crashes due to region crossings or lag. We had a nice turnout of spectators to watch this small fun boats surf past with their centerboards up along the shore in the Eden Albatros region and also along the shores of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region.

The first race, on the NS-SOL-13A course, saw a quick start as the entire fleet was across the start line as 33 seconds ticked off the race clock. Red was next to cross the start line at 00:00:14 followed by Carlota, at 00:00:22, and Joshua at 00:00:33. Arwyn’s short lead evaporated along the first leg, to the southern tip of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region, as the fleet bunched up and kept things tight. I overtook and passed Arwyn with Joshua right on my stern as Arwyn settled in for a neck and neck battle with Red. Carlota just aft of them as the fleet rounded the island in Genip for the return legs back to the finish. I was able to extend a small lead ahead of Joshua and cross the finish line first, taking line honors as Joshua crossed the finish line second. Red, holding off a strong challenge from Arwyn, crossed the finish line third with Arwyn crossing just 2 seconds after her followed by Carlota.

The second race, on the NS-SOL-13B course, saw an even quicker start as the entire fleet was on the course side of the start line by the time 16 seconds ticked off the race clock. Red got things started this time, crossing the start line at 00:00:02 followed by Arwyn, at 00:00:03, myself at 00:00:09, and Joshua at 00:00:16. Red took advantage of her quick start and held her lead for the entire course. I was just aft of Arwyn until overtaking her on the leg south to the southern tip of Lighthouse Isle, in the Ziziphus region. Joshua’s connection did not hold and he crashed, sending his boat and a small cruise south into Fruit Islands and also resulting in a DNF. Red crossed the finish line first, taking line honors as I crossed second followed by Arwyn.

This weeks Trudeau Patchogue II Class races saw some really stormy sim weather with some yet fun racing. The sims behaved well during the first race, but the Bullace region had an avatar appetite as it ate the entire fleet during the second race. Racing was fun during the first race though, as Carlota and I were neck and neck for most of the course with Arwyn right on our sterns. We also had a nice spectator turn out has a crowd gathered at the committee boat in the Breadnut region, along the shore in the Eden Albatros region, and along the beaches of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region.

The first race, on the NS-CCW course, saw a nice start from the fleet. Carlota got things started as she cross the start line first, at 00:00:04. Joshua was next across the start line at 00:00:11 as I followed right on his stern at 00:00:12. Arwyn was next across the start line at 00:01:11. Carlota took advantage of her lead a the start and paced the fleet for the first part of the course. Joshua wound up crashing as he crossed from the Carob region into the Sapodilla region and recorded a DNF. I moved up into second behind Carlota and slowly made my way up to her position as Arwyn was making her way to mine. By the half way point of the course, the buoy in the Dragonfruit region, I had caught up to Carlota and we both pulled our centerboards on the reach to the green buoy in the Ziziphus region. As we both rounded the green buoy, Carlota went lower downwind than I did, losing precious course time as I was able to pass her before the blue buoy in the Sapote region. Arwyn went higher downwind as well, gaining on Carlota’s position in second. I held my new found lead and crossed the finish line first, taking line honors, as Carlota crossed second and Arwyn crossed third.

The second race, on the North Sea Olympic Course (Long), got off to a nice enough start. Arwyn crossed the start line first this time, at 00:00:08. Carlota was next to cross at 00:00:12, followed by myself at 00:00:15, and Joshua at 00:00:18. Tragedy would soon strike as the Bullace region exhibited a ferocious appetite for avatars. As the entire fleet tacked west to the first course mark, the green buoy south of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region, we all crashed as we sailed through the Bullace region. The entire fleet recorded DNFs as no one survived. The Bullace region had a trouble ticket filed with LL and was subsequently triaged the next day by Linden staff.

This weeks Trudeau Patchogue II Class races in the North Sea, saw some smooth sim weather turn a little choppy towards the end with some fun racing. The sims behaved really well for the first race, but the Ziziphus region turned soupy during the second as it claimed Joshua to a crash, and a DNF. The racing was close and fun, as the fleet stuck together with several position changes and neck and neck racing through both courses.

The first race, on NS-CCW, saw the fleet get off to a nice start. Joshua, with Anna, and Carlota both crossed the start line first, at 00:00:03. Red, with Adeli, was next across the start line at 00:00:09, while I, with Kaos, crossed just after at 00:00:15. Joshua, with Anna, took a clean line upwind as the rest of us jockeyed for position. Carlota fell back, being the only single handed boat, crew helps with heel angle and therefore speed on Patchogue II’s. I, with Kaos, and Red, with Adeli, stayed neck and neck for most of the course with no discernible advantage to either until the last mark in the Sloe region. As Red, with Adeli, entered the mark zone for the buoy in the Sloe region, Red turned wide, dropping her centerboard late. I, with Kaos, dropped my centerboard just as my boat entered the mark zone and was able to turn inside of Red, then pull my centerboard at the end of the turn to get a jump and a pass ahead of Red. Joshua, with Anna, crossed the finish line first, taking line honors. I, with Kaos, was able to hold a slight lead over Red, with Adeli, as I crossed the finish line second with Red crossing third. Carlota followed across the finish line, in fourth.

The second race, on the North Sea Manta course, saw Carlota pick up Petra as crew. Joshua and Red both went crew-less to go single handed. Red got things started as she crossed the start line at 00:00:07 followed by myself, with Kaos, at 00:00:11. Carlota, with Petra, was next to cross the start line at 00:00:19, with Joshua right on her stern at 00:00:20. Racing was competitive as Red took a clean line on the two upwind tacks while I, with Kaos, was just on her stern as Carlota, with Petra, was right on my stern. Joshua was just aft Carlota and Petra. The fleet held tightly together up to the second mark, the pink buoy in the Eden Fulmar region. On the reach down to the third course mark, the green buoy south of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region, I, with Kaos, and Carlota, with Petra, were both able to take advantage of our crew in helping with the boat’s heel angle, and pass Red. I went to the mark wide, as Carlota went in close turning and losing speed, while I pulled my centerboard early and was able to maintain speed as a swung around the mark to start the reaching leg to the mark in the Sloe region. I held a small lead ahead of Carlota, with Petra, as Red and Joshua were right on her stern. As I approached the fourth course mark, the pink buoy in the Sloe region, the wind shifted slightly and the fleet bunched up as we all rounded the buoy. I again pulled slightly ahead of Carlota, Red, and Joshua heading into the fifth course mark, the blue buoy in the Sapote region. I, with Kaos, stayed on a port tack heading west past the course mark as Carlota, with Petra, followed right on my stern. Joshua and Red both took earlier starboard tacks to head south to the sixth course mark, the green buoy in Ziziphus. I, with Kaos, tacked to port, heading south, in the Muskmelon region, taking a faster wider angle to the sixth course mark and Carlota, with Petra, followed suit. This is when the seas would get a little choppy as Joshua entered the Ziziphus region he crashed on the crossing, unfortunately recording a DNF. Red entered Ziziphus next as I was heading in on a wider faster line, we both met and rounded the green buoy together. I was able to take an inside line around the green buoy, with Red just to my starboard side. Carlota, with Petra, were just on our sterns. The Ziziphus region was not done with it’s storm though, as lag was plenty and the seas seemed like thick syrup. We all sailed on however, and as we all crossed into the Bullace region, the lag subsided. I, with Kaos, slipped into the lead on the run to the finish, as Red held off Carlota, with Petra. I crossed the finish line first, taking line honors, as Red crossed second, mere seconds behind me, and Carlota crossed third.
