Stormy sim sailing weather and a nice spectator turn out featured during this weeks Backwater Bay Yacht Club Cat Fight. The North Channel was the stormy location for foiling feline frenzy this week, as the Cat Fight was run from the Backwater Bay Yacht Club race line in the Pastiche region. The region crossings immediately after the race line, in the Jershaw region, were the cause of five of the seven DNFs (Did Not Finish) on the day. The other two DNFs were the result of a skipper pulling their boat after realizing they had been racing an incorrect course and another skipper having allowed their crew edit rights on their objects and that crew stopping the boat dead in it’s tracks when they attempted to re-board it after falling off. Spectators were undeterred, however, as the committee boat dock and spectator viewing pier, both located in the Skeezits regions, were crowded with on lookers. This weeks fleet, racing 2 laps on the BBYC Pastiche Long Loop course and then another lap on the BBYC Pastiche Bay 02 course, was comprised of a majority of six The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows. One lone TMS Nacra 17 made up the remainder of the fleet.

Today’s winner was Moon (moonglownight Resident), with Isa (isab DeCuir) second, and Palani (Palani Allen) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.

Race Notes:
Isa (isab DeCuir) and Palani (Palani Allen) finished tied with 5 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

Skipper Race 1 Race 2
isab DeCuir 4 1
Palani Allen 1 4

In the last race, Isa breaks the tie with Palani with her first place finish over Palani’s fourth place finish.

Joshua (JoshuaMason7 Resident) and Rayz (Rayzza Rubble) both finished tied with 9 points. As they both have the exact same finishes in each race, a DNF (Did Not Finish) in each respectively, neither Rule A8.1 or Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing will satisfy breaking this tie. Therefore, Joshua and Rayz remain tied in sixth place overall.

Smooth sim sailing weather that turned choppy highlighted this weeks Backwater Bay Yacht Club Cat Fight. The regions in Bingo Strait behaved well for the first race, yet the regions of the North Channel, location of the second race, were choppy as they claimed the only two DNFs (Did Not Finish) on the day. This weeks fleet, racing on the BBYC Woodfall to Pastiche 02 and the newly created BBYC Pastiche Long Loop course, were comprised of a majority of three The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows with one lone TMS Nacra 17 as the remainder.

Smooth sim sailing weather and a nice fleet turnout featured during this weeks Backwater Bay Yacht Club Open Regatta. The regions of Bingo Strait and the Northern Channel fared well for sailing as only one of the three DNFs (Did Not Finish) on the day was attributed to crashing. The other other two DNFs were due to sailors pulling their boats. Enjoying the sailing conditions was a fleet of nine small boats and six big boats across both races.

This weeks small boat fleet, racing on the BBYC Woodfall to Pastiche 02 course, was comprised of a split majority of three The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows and three Bandit 25Rs. Two TMS Nacra 17s and one Bandit IF made up the remainder of the small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, racing on the BBYC Pastiche Bay 02 course, was comprised of two TMS Volvo Open 70s, one TMS Ushuaia, one TMS One Design 65, one ACA33, and one Wildwind Open 60.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
isab DeCuir 2 9
Palani Allen 4 7
Nikki Lacrima 5 6

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Isa’s favor with having a second place finish over Palani’s fourth place finish and Nikki’s fifth place finish as their best. This weeks Backwater Bay Yacht Club Cat Fight featured a great spectator and sailor turnout with some great sailing weather. The Bingo Strait regions exhibited smooth sailing weather as the only DNF (Did Not Finish) on the day was attributed to Rayz’s connection during race 2 in the Pastiche region. Spectators and sailors alike packed the committee boat dock in the Woodfall region, as well as the committee boat dock in the Skeezits region, the location of the second race. This weeks fleet, racing on the newly created BBYC Woodfall to Pastiche 02 and BBYC Pastiche Bay 02 courses, was comprised of a majority of six The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows.
