Calm to choppy seas, with a great fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. The North Sea regions were decently behaved for most, as three DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. The first DNF occurred towards the end of the first race as a skipper crashed on a region crossing only two regions from the finish. The remaining two DNFs occurred during the second race, with one skipper crashing while crossing over region corners, and the remainder occurring when a skipper pulled his boat after his crew crashed. The crowds that gathered along the shores of the islands in the Genip and Ziziphus regions, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on the frisky fleet-foiled feline frenzy on display from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Half Main Mirror course for race one, was made up of a majority of ten The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, nine sailing crewed and one sailing single-handed respectively. One lone TMS Nacra 17 rounded out the first race fleet. The fleet makeup changed slightly, as they sailed on North Sea WC Reach 1 for race two, with a majority of eight TMS Flying Shadows, six sailing crewed and two sailing single-handed respectively. Two TMS Nacra 17s, and one WildWind AC-45 rounded out the second race fleet.

Race Notes:
Jenna (jnx1e Resident) and Sin (Sinarielle Resident) finished tied with 5 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

Smooth seas, that turned choppy late, and a great fleet turnout highlighted this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. The regions of The North Sea estate started the race day calm and smooth, as only one DNF (Did Not Finish) occurred during the first race. That DNF was due to a skipper causing a foul that forced another skipper to sail across region corners and crash. The calm seas would not last as a storm blew in during the second race, causing three additional DNFs to occur, all from region crossing crashes. The crowd that gathered on Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock, both in the Eden Jakana region, and along the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, witnessed some great fleet-foiled feline frenzy from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea WC Reach 1 course and a 2 lap affair on the North Sea Long Loop course, was comprised of a majority of seven The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, three sailing with crew and four sailing single-handed respectively. Three TMS Nacra 17s, and one Wildwind AC-62, which was switched out for a Wilwdind AC-45 in the second race, rounded out this weeks catamaran fleet.

Sirius (Sirius Rosca) and Sea (filax Carter) both finished the first race tied at the finishing line with a time of 18:16. As their final time also remains tied, as they both sailed the same boat, Rule A7 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to score this tie:

If boats are tied at the finishing line or if a handicap or rating system is used and boats have equal corrected times, the points for the place for which the boats have tied and for the place(s) immediately below shall be added together and divided equally. Boats tied for a race prize shall share it or be given equal prizes.

Therefore, both Sirius and Sea receive 5.5 points, as the product for the place for which they have tied and for the place immediately below, 5 and 6, added together and divided equally.

Jenna (jnx1e Resident) and Isa (isab DeCuir) both finished tied with 5 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish

isab DeCuir 2 3

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Jenna’s favor with having a first place finish over Isa’s second place finish as her best.

Sirius (Sirius Rosca) and Sea (filax Carter) both finished tied with 13.5 points. As they both have the exact same finishes in each race, a 5.5 point finish in the first race and a DNF in the second race respectively, neither rule A8.1 or A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing will satisfy breaking this tie. Therefore, Sirius and Sea both remain tied in sixth place overall.

Calm seas and a nice fleet turnout highlighted this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. The North Sea regions were calm for most as two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day, one in each race. Of the two DNFs, one was due to a skipper crashing, while the other was from a skipper running into region corners. We can not say this enough, your avatar will not have a good time trying to exist in four regions at once. Please, avoid region corners. With calm seas, came great racing, as the crowds on the small race dock, in the Eden Jakana region, and on the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, cheered on this weeks fleet-foiled feline skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea WC Reach 1 and North Sea Snipe courses, was comprised of a majority of five The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows. Initially, only one of the five Flying Shadows was crewed. However, the second race saw two single-handed skippers forsake their own boats and jump on as crew to make three crewed Flying Shadows. Two Wildwind AC-45s rounded out this weeks fleet.

With the great weather and the nice fleet, the spectators gathered on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier were treated to some fast fleet-foiled racing.

A nice fleet turnout with some choppy to clearing sim sailing weather highlighted this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. As the summer draws to an end, the vacations and holidays that have kept some skippers away from Secondlife have ended as well. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea WC Reach 1 and North Sea Bowline courses, saw a return to normal strength with of a majority of four The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, two crewed and two single-handed respectively. Two TMS Nacra 17s made up the remainder of the fleet. The North Sea regions were a bit stormy at first, as two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded in the first race due to crashes. The sim sailing weather settled down and behaved, however, as no DNFs were recorded during the second race. With the returning fleet size came a crowd of onlookers to match, as both the Poseidon Centre Spectator in the Eden Lapwing region and the island in the Ziziphus region saw spectators cheering on the great fleet-foiled feline racing on display.

The fleet gets underway during the small boat portion of the North Sea Open Regatta, on Wednesday, July 3rd, 2019.

This weeks North Sea Open Regatta featured more smooth sailing sim weather and some spirited racing. As I was unavailable due to real life circumstances, Daenerys directed this week in my absence. Here are Daenerys’s words about both races.

In the first race, after a good start, Lalia took the lead, with Bianca on her back till the halfway part of the race. Bianca then took the lead from Lalia. It was a smooth race. After a good start of the second race, Nihiwatu took the lead with her Wildwind AC-62. The Wildwind Open 60s stayed together but Moon sadly crashed. Before Moon’s crash, he was in a spirited battle with Julie.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Manta Reverse course, was comprised of a majority of five The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, all single-handed. One TMS Star Class, one Shields Class, one Bandit IF, one Bandit 25r, and one TMS Nacra 17 made up the remainder of the small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea WC Reach 1 course, was comprised of a majority of five Wildwind Open 60s. One TMS One Design 65, and one Wildwind AC-62 made up the remainder of the big boat fleet.

The fleet listens to instructions before the start of the big boat portion of the North Sea Open Regatta, on Wednesday, July 3rd, 2019.

A nice spectator turnout and mild sim sailing weather highlighted this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. A nice crowd gathered on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier, as well as on the shores of the island in the Ziziphus region, to watch the frolicking foiling felines this week. The regions of the North Sea were mostly accommodating to the sailors in the fleet, as three DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day, all in the first race. Two of the DNFs were attributed to crashes with the skippers pulling their boats afterword, and the third DNF was due to a skipper hitting a region corner. This weeks fleet, racing on the newly created North Sea Extreme Reverse1 and North Sea WC Reach 12 courses, was comprised of a majority of eight The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, six single-handed boats and two crewed boats respectively. Two TMS Nacra 17s made up the remainder of the fleet.

1North Sea Extreme Reverse is a reversal of the North Sea Extreme course created by Julia Salzano in 2016.
2North Sea WC Reach 1 is an updated and amended version of a course created by Hawk (ldewell hawker) in 2012 for the IACC World Cup that was held in The North Sea.
