Calm to choppy seas, with a great fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. The North Sea regions were decently behaved for most, as three DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. The first DNF occurred towards the end of the first race as a skipper crashed on a region crossing only two regions from the finish. The remaining two DNFs occurred during the second race, with one skipper crashing while crossing over region corners, and the remainder occurring when a skipper pulled his boat after his crew crashed. The crowds that gathered along the shores of the islands in the Genip and Ziziphus regions, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on the frisky fleet-foiled feline frenzy on display from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Half Main Mirror course for race one, was made up of a majority of ten The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, nine sailing crewed and one sailing single-handed respectively. One lone TMS Nacra 17 rounded out the first race fleet. The fleet makeup changed slightly, as they sailed on North Sea WC Reach 1 for race two, with a majority of eight TMS Flying Shadows, six sailing crewed and two sailing single-handed respectively. Two TMS Nacra 17s, and one WildWind AC-45 rounded out the second race fleet.

Today’s winner was Jenna (jnx1e Resident), with Sin (Sinarielle Resident) second, and Daenerys (blondij Resident) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.
Race Notes:
Jenna (jnx1e Resident) and Sin (Sinarielle Resident) finished tied with 5 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.“
Skipper | Race 1 | Race 2 |
jnx1e Resident | 3 | 2 |
Sinarielle Resident | 2 | 3 |
In the last race, Jenna breaks the tie with Sin with her second place finish over Sin’s third place finish.
Daenerys (blondij Resident) and Riley (rileydarksqualor Resident) both finished tied with 9 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.“
Skipper | Best Finish | Next Best Finish |
blondij Resident | 1 | 8 |
rileydarksqualor Resident | 4 | 5 |
With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Daenerys’s favor with having a first place finish over Riley’s fourth place finish as her best.
ViV (vivipezz Resident) and Moon (moonglownight Resident) both finished tied with 11 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

Skipper | Best Finish | Next Best Finish |
vivipezz Resident | 1 | 10 |
moonglownight Resident | 4 | 7 |
With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in ViV’s favor with having a first place finish over Moon’s fourth place finish as his best.
