Saturday afternoon, we had a fleet of six Bandit IFs at the start, with one Bandit IF crewed.
The North Sea regions behaved well and even in the Eden waters there was not a cloud in the sky.

Today for the first time, the “circle of the dragon” was at the start. The two races had two great starts. No sticking to the Committee boat as it happens on other days. Was that because of the circle, or is it something else? Time will tell.

Right from the start of the first race, a skipper immediately took the lead. She was followed behind by a group of four other skippers. As the race progressed, two groups of two boats were formed from the next group of four boats.

After the start of the second race, the fleet fell apart immediately. Two boats took the lead. Followed by two boats and two other boats sailed completely different lines.

We had one DNF (Did Not Finish) and three DSQs (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

More pictures after the results.

Rugger (Ruggeromare Resident ) was disqualified (DSQ) during the second race for sailing an incorrect course. Sailing under the bridge of the island of Genip, as the whole island is the mark, this is not allowed.

Moon (moonglownight Resident) was disqualified (DSQ) during the second race for sailing an incorrect course, missing the first course mark, because he was sailing the wrong route.

Moon (moonglownight Resident) and Jack (Jacquimo Resident) both finished tied with 5 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Mild sim sailing weather, with a great fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The North Sea regions started out generally behaved for our There and Back Again version of the regatta, with one DNF (Did Not Finish) recorded during the first race across the width of the entire North Sea estate. The seas grew slightly choppy during the second race, as three DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded. Of those three DNFs, one was due to a skipper pulling her boat after realizing she sailed the course backwards, another DNF was from a skipper crashing from crossing on region corners, and the final DNF was due to a skipper crashing on a border crossing. The crowd that gathered on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier, in the Eden Jakana region, followed and cheered on the exciting racing on display across the North Sea, as they hopped to the islands in the Ziziphus, Genip, and Eden Auk region, before heading to watch the finish in the Eden Jaeger region. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Curlew to Jaeger 01 and North Sea Scampi courses, was made up of a majority ten Bandit 22 LTEs. Four Bandit 25Rs rounded out the fleet in the first race. The fleet composition changed slightly for the second race as two skippers switched from the Bandit 22 LTE to the Bandit IF.

Today’s winner was Moon (moonglownight Resident), with Jenna (jnx1e Resident) second, and Julie (JulieRoyale Resident) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate and to the SLCG for helping with race duties.

Race Notes:
Jenna (jnx1e Resident) and Sandra (WWWAAAA Resident) both finished the first race tied with a final time of 0:10:52. As the final time result is rounded to the nearest whole second in the Google Sheet, the exact final times for each skipper are: (race time multiplied by handicap equaling final time, all time in seconds)

Skipper Race Time Handicap Final Time
jnx1e 869 0.75 651.75
WWWAAAA 795 0.82 651.90

With the final times shown in seconds, the tie breaks in Jenna’s favor with having a 651.75 seconds finish over Sandra’s 651.90 seconds finish. Just to note, if both skippers final times had been an exact tie, Rule A7 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing would be used to break that tie instead:

If boats are tied at the finishing line or if a handicap or rating system is used and boats have equal corrected times, the points for the place for which the boats have tied and for the place(s) immediately below shall be added together and divided equally. Boats tied for a race prize shall share it or be given equal prizes.

Meirelese (Meireles Diabolito) was disqualified (DSQ) during the first race for finishing the race under protest while failing to finish a 360° penalty turn as directed by a race director due to a Rule 18.2 Giving Mark-Room foul.

Saturday afternoon was beautiful, with good sailing weather and no thunderstorms to be seen.
This time we had ten Bandit IFs including two with crew. A skipper dropped out before the start, leaving us with nine boats.

We had a great start again. Immediately after the start we had a leading group of two boats with five pursuers. One of the pursuers had found a tie with the two leaders at the second mark. The three of them would determine the rest of the race. At the start of the last leg, two of the front-runners had taken the lead and the third front-runner had fallen a bit behind, but then two boats joined him to compete for third place.

The second race also had a good start and there were already two groups with four boats at the start. However, the two groups came together again at the first buoy. The fleet began to stretch slowly until everyone sailed consecutively. The race director had a surprise for the sailors halfway through the race, because we had a change in wind strength and direction around the island in the Genip region.

We had one DNF (Did Not Finish) through both races, however it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

More pictures after the results.

Race Notes:
Sirius (Sirius Rosca) and Rugger (Ruggeromare Resident) both finished the first race tied at the finishing line with a time of 20:27. As their final time also remains tied, as they both sailed the same boat, Rule A7 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to score this tie:

Boats tied for a race prize shall share it or be given equal prizes.

Therefore, both Sirius Rosca and Ruggeromare Resident receive 3.5 points, as the product for the place for which they have tied and for the place immediately below, 3 and 4, added together and divided equally.

Max (Maximiliano Szondi) and Tamar (Tamara Czervik) both finished tied with 13 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

Great sim sailing weather and a large fleet turnout featured during this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The regions of The North Sea were calm and well behaved as only two DNFs (Did Not Finish), were recorded on the day. Of those two DNFs, one was due to a skipper pulling her boat after her computer had issues, and the other DNF was due to a skipper crashing. The crowds that gathered along the beaches of the islands in the Ziziphus, Genip, and Eden Auk regions, as well as on the small race docks in the Eden Jakana and Eden Jeager regions, were treated to some great fleet racing from this weeks Bandit skippers as they sailed along both courses for our monthly There and Back Again series ranging the full width of the estate. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Curlew to Jaeger 01 and North Sea Scampi courses, was made up of a majority of nine Bandit 22 LTEs. Five Bandit IFs, three sailing single-handed and two sailing with crew respectively, and two Bandit 25Rs rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.

Saturday afternoon, it was a beautiful day for sailing. This time we had six Bandit IFs including one with crew.

The North Sea regions behaved reasonably well. However, we had the first dropout not long after the start. This race went quite well and exciting because we had a group of three boats that stayed close together, but one of them took the lead and never let go. The second place was decided at the end of the last leg.

The second race started very energetically for all sailors, nevertheless they got a storm halfway through the race before them, so we had two dropouts. Two other sailors fell out of the boat but were able to jump into the boat, so that they could continue sailing. The race was decided by these two sailors on the finish line and brought us a surprising new winner.

We had two DSQs (Disqualified) and three DNFs (Did Not Finish) through both races, however it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

Nice sim sailing weather and a great fleet turnout highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. This week was our featured monthly There and Back Again series, were we sail from and too both of The North Sea’s racing lines in the Eden Curlew and Eden Jaeger regions. For this months series, instead of sailing back to the Eden Curlew race line, from the Eden Jaeger race line, we sailed a course entirely on the western portion of The North Sea estate for the second race. The regions of The North Sea treated our skippers well, as only three DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day, two in the first race and one in the second respectively. Of the three DNFs, two were due to crashes, while the third was due to a skipper pulling her boat during the first race when her navigation HUD failed. As this weeks races used the entirely of the North Sea estate, there were many places for crowds to gather and watch our skippers. Gather the crowds did, as spectators were viewing from the islands in the Ziziphus, Genip, and Eden Auk regions, as well as from the Pelican Sailing School, in the Eden Murrelet region. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Curlew to Jaeger 01 and North Sea Scampi courses, was comprised of a majority of ten Bandit IFs, eight were sailing single-handed and two were sailing with crew, respectively. Saturday afternoon. It was a beautiful day for sailing. This time we had eight Bandit IFs, including two with crew. After the start of the second race, fate struck and everyone in the same region crashed, in Eden. We had to stop the race and sail an alternative course. The North Sea regions behaved very well, in light of the one region in Eden. The starts of both races went smoothly.
In both competitions the fleet stayed together for a long time, but near Appleberry everyone made their own way to the river. In the second race, there was chaos at the first mark, as a skipper missed the mark and seemed to round it the other way around, but didn’t
We had two DNFs (Did Not Finish) and a DSQ (Disqualified) and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

Great sim sailing weather, with another great fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The regions of the North Sea behaved well as only two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day, both at the end of the second race as both skippers connections dropped. The crowds along the course, on the islands in the Ziziphus, Genip, and Eden Auk regions, witnessed some great sailing from this weeks skippers as we ran our monthly There And Back Again series while debuting a new course for the second race. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Curlew to Jaeger 01 and North Sea Scampi1 courses, was comprised of a majority of seven Bandit IFs, three sailing with crew and four sailing single-handed respectively. Five Bandit 25Rs made up the remainder of this weeks fleet.

1 North Sea Scampi was recently created, by Cryptic, starting and finishing at the North Sea’s second race line in the Eden Jaeger region.
