Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted the first North Sea Open Regatta for March, 2023. With a fresh breeze of 18 knots out of the southwest, The North Sea regions were mostly behaved as two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. The first DNF, occurring during the small boat portion, was due to a skipper experiencing a rough crossing. The second DNF, occurring during the big boat portion, was from a skipper pulling her boat after she realized her control gestures were mixed up. The crowds that gathered along the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, and along the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, savored a great display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Half Mane course, was made up of a split majority of four Bandit 22 LTEs and four The Mesh Shop (TMS) Star Class, three sailing single-handed and one crewed respectively. Two TMS Sea Boss – Riders, one TMS Nacra 17, and one Bandit 25R rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Outer Inner Loop (OIL) course, was made up of a small split majority of two Trudeau 12 Metres and two TMS I-Mocca 60s. One TMS Volvo Open 70, one TMS One Design 65, one WildWind RC44R, one Isard Machichaco, and one TMS Ocean Beach rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.

From the left to the right: (in Bandit IFs) Fanny, Emi, Red, Julie, Darb & Kit, Moon, Zero, and Rugger. Committee boat: Daenerys. Dock: Cryptic, and Caethes.

This weeks North Sea Bandit IF Regatta took place on another beautiful Saturday afternoon in June. We started with eight Bandit IFs. One of the Bandit IFs had crew on board. The start of the first race went smoothly. Julie and Emi had started from port and took a different route to the first mark. The other five boats would head from the east to the first mark. At the first mark, Fanny took charge of the fleet. Julie and Moon would battle for second place. Zero, Emi, Red and Rugger followed at a distance from the three leaders. Julie was close behind Fanny when they approached the island in the Genip region. Just before they rounded the island, fate befell Fanny. This gave Julie and Moon free rein in the last leg.

The second race started with nine boats. Jack had reported to the start line late during the first race, but was able to participate in the second race. During the start, the RC was pressing. Eight of the nine skippers started in quick succession, causing a compact fleet to head for the first mark. Fanny managed to build up a small lead over the other seven skippers. After leaving the mark in the Sloe region, we had four pursuers, Jack, Rugger, Julie and Moon. Approaching the mark in the Sapote region, Julie and Jack had given chase to Fanny, leaving Rugger and Moon behind. Fanny, Julie and Jack were going to decide who would come first, second and third. This was a fight to the finish line.

There were three DNFs (Did Not Finish) and one DSQ (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

Great sim sailing weather, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. As a fresh breeze of 18 knots blew from the southwest, the regions of The North Sea were smooth and well behaved for everyone with no crashes or DNFs (Did Not Finish) occurring on the day. The crowds that gathered on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier, in the Eden Jakana region, and along the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip region, took in some great fleet racing from this weeks skippers.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Manta course, was made up of a majority of four Bandit IFs. One Bandit 22 LTE, on The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadow, one Trudeau Patchogue II, and one Quest 2m rounded out his weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Outer Inner Loop (OIL) course, was made up of triple split majority of two TMS I-Mocca 60s, two WildWind Open 60s, and two Trudeau 12 Metres. One lone ACA33 rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.
