Pier: Cole, Buttercups, and Sunday.
Dock: Tamar, Cryptic, Caethes, and Markis.

The second North Sea Bandit IF Regatta for February, 2023, took place on a pleasant Saturday afternoon. We had seven bandit IFs at the start. The fleet set out with Julie in the lead. Moon, Rugger, and Siri followed at an appropriate distance. Jack, and Vicky followed behind. On the way to the second mark, Moon broke away from Rugger, and Siri. Jack, and Vicky joined them. On the way to the final mark, Julie had managed to maintain a good lead over Moon. Moon against that had a good lead over the fleet.

At the start of the second race, Red ran into a bit of trouble, which meant that Moon took the lead. Closely followed by Siri, and Julie. Behind that we had Jack, and Rugger. At the statues, or where statues used to be in Eden, Rugger sailed away from Jack. But that was only for a short time. At the next mark, Jack had overtaken Rugger again. Meanwhile, Julie had passed Siri, and was chasing Moon. Moon had to pull out all the stops to stay ahead of Julie.

Finally it was time. The third and final race of the day. Rugger, and Julie had a good start. Rugger took the lead followed by Vicky, Siri, and Julie. Moon took another line and this made him take over the lead in the region of Ziziphus. Siri, and Rugger fought over the Ziziphus coastline. Julie, on the other hand, had broken away from Rugger, and tried to follow Moon. Red, and Jack tacked before Moon, and Siri. Julie got stuck behind Rugger again and had to wait because of this. When they arrived at Genip, Moon was still in charge. Julie had taken second place. Jack, Siri, and Rugger followed at an appropriate distance. Leaving Genip, Jack was firmly in control of third place. Back in the region of Ziziphus, Julie surprised Moon and took charge of him. Rugger, Siri, and Red would go on to battle for fourth place.

There was one DNF (Did Not Finish) and no DSQs (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted the first North Sea Bandit Regatta for November, 2022. With a moderate breeze of 11 knots out of the southwest, rising to 15 knots during the second race, The North Sea regions were well behaved as two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. Both DNFs were attributed to skippers crashing while crossing over region corners. The crowds that gathered on the lighthouse observation deck of the island in the Ziziphus region, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, reveled in a peppy display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Olympic Short Reverse and North Sea WC Reach 2 courses, was made up of a majority of eight Bandit 22 LTEs. Four Bandit IFs, three sailing single-handed and once crewed respectively, rounded out his weeks Bandit fleet.

Race Notes:
Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook) and Moon (moonglownight Resident) both finished the second race tied at the finishing line with a time of 12:14. As their final time also remains tied, as they both sailed the same boat, Rule A7 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to score this tie:

If boats are tied at the finishing line or if a handicap or rating system is used and boats have equal corrected times, the points for the place for which the boats have tied and for the place(s) immediately below shall be added together and divided equally. Boats tied for a race prize shall share it or be given equal prizes.

Therefore, both Emileigh and Moon receive 1.5 points, as the product for the place for which they have tied and for the place immediately below, 1 and 2, added together and divided equally.

Sirius (Sirius Rosca) and Cilian (Cilian McCullough) both finished tied with 13 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
Sirius Rosca 5 8
Cilian McCullough 6 7

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Sirius’s favor with having a fifth place finish over Cilian’s sixth place finish as his best.

Max (Max Starostin), Emilio (emiliopc7 Resident), and Sea (filax Carter) all finished tied with 185 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The North Sea regions were well behaved again, as one DNF (Did Not Finish) was recorded on the day. The lone DNF was due to a skipper pulling her boat during the first race after her connection acted up. The crowds that gathered on the lighthouse observation deck on the island in the Ziziphus region, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, delighted in a great display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Olympic Short Reverse and North Sea WC Reach 2 courses, was made up of a majority of seven Bandit 22 LTEs. Race Notes:
Fil (Filmore Dash) was disqualified (DSQ) during the first race due to sailing an incorrect course, not rounding the last course mark, the blue buoy in the Sapote region.

Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) and Asher (AsherZacharias Resident) both finished tied with 5 points.

Diana (Dianafra Allen) and Emilio (emiliopc7 Resident) finished tied with 15 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

Skipper Race 1 Race 2
Dianafra Allen 8 7
emiliopc7 Resident 7 8

In the last race, Diana breaks the tie with Emilio with her seventh place finish over Emilio’s eighth place finish.

Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook) and Fil (Filmore Dash) finished tied with 18 points. As they both have the exact same finishes from each race, 9 point finishes in both races respectively, neither Rule A8.1 or A8.2 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing will satisfy breaking their tie. Therefore, Emileigh and Fil remain tied in ninth place overall.

A beautiful Saturday afternoon was the scene for the first North Sea Bandit IF Regatta for August 2022. We started with eight Bandit IFs. Four of the eight bandit IFs had crew on board.

Immediately after the start, the fleet split up. Five boats turned west while the other boats continued south.
At the first mark the ships came together again, but by then a leading group of four, Red, Moon, Siri, Rugger, boats had already formed. This group stayed together until the penultimate mark. Here Siri and Moon distanced themselves from their companions. They would fight for first place. A boat should have stopped the race but another skipper joined the party.

In the second race, we left with eight Bandit IFs. Immediately after the start, a skipper split off from the fleet to join the fleet at the first mark. En route to the statues of Eden, the fleet seemed to be falling apart, but during the battle for second and third place, the three skippers left behind had a chance to rejoin the leading group. However, the front runner saw an opportunity to escape the violence that took place behind him. En route to the southernmost part of the route, the group split in two again. At the turning point it was already clear who would come second.

The third race would be decisive for the result. The fleet moved together towards the first mark. The fleet was still together when they passed the first mark. At the turning point, the cards would be shuffled for the final battle to the finish.

There were one DNF (Did Not Finish) and one DSQ (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted the first North Sea Bandit Regatta of 2022. The North Sea regions helped start off 2022 with great sailing weather as no DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. The crowds that gathered on the beaches of the islands in the Ziziphus and Gemip regions, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on an exciting display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Olympic Short Reverse and North Sea 01 courses, was made up of a split majority of five Bandit IFs, three sailing single-handed and two sailing crewed respectively, and five Bandit 22 LTEs.

Note: As of the posting of these results, the handicap time for the Bandit 55 has been updated to 0.65, from 0.60. Please see North Sea Handicap Table for the full list of handicaps and the link to the Google Sheet used to calculate them.

Today’s winner was Moon (moonglownight Resident), with Aymalie (Aymalie Resident) second, and Red (RedHeadJO Resident) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate and to the SLCG for helping with race duties.

Race Notes:
Diana (Dianafra Allen) was disqualified (DSQ) during the first race for sailing an incorrect course, rounding the second course mark, the white buoy in the Eden Jakana region, clockwise instead of counter-clockwise.

Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) and Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) both finished tied with 11 points.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
ruggeromare Resident 4 7
Nicole Myhre 5 6

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Rugger’s favor with having a fourth place finish over Zimtzicke’s fifth place finish as her best.

Calms seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. With a moderate breeze of 11 knots coming out of the southwest, The North Sea regions were behaved for most as only one DNF (Did Not Finish) was recorded on the day. The lone DNF was due to a skippers SL viewer freezing on them in the middle of a region. The crowds that gathered on the shores of the island in the Ziziphus region, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on some exciting fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Olympic Short Reverse and North Sea WC Reach 2 courses, was made up of a majority of six Bandit 22 LTEs. Four Bandit IFs, three sailing single-handed and one sailing crewed respectively, rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.
