Smooth seas, with a wonderful fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The North Sea regions were well behaved for all our skippers as the only DNF (Did Not Finish) on the day was due to a skipper hitting region corners right before the finish of the second race. This week was our monthly There and Back Again series, were the skippers sailed from one end of The North Sea Estate to the other, and then back again. The crowd that assembled on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier, in the Eden Jakana region, and subsequently hopped from the shores of the island in the Ziziphus region, the shores of the island in the Genip region, and then finally to the small race dock in the Eden Jaeger region, cheered and reveled in the tight-knit fleet racing on display from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Curlew to Jaeger 01 and North Sea Jaeger to Curlew 01 courses, was composed of a majority of twelve Bandit 22 LTEs. Three Bandit 25Rs, and one crewed Bandit IF rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.

Race Notes:
Fanny (fannydeep Resident) and Rayz (Rayzza Rubble) both finished the first race tied with a final time of 0:10:55. As the final time result is rounded to the nearest whole second in the Google Sheet, the exact final times for each skipper are: (race time multiplied by handicap equaling final time, all time in seconds)

Skipper Race Time Handicap Final Time
fannydeep 873 0.75 654.75
Rayzza 799 0.82 655.18

With the final times shown in seconds, the tie breaks in Fanny’s favor with having a 654.75 seconds finish over Rayz’s 655.18 seconds finish. Just to note, if both skippers final times had been an exact tie, Rule A7 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing would be used to break that tie instead:

If boats are tied at the finishing line or if a handicap or rating system is used and boats have equal corrected times, the points for the place for which the boats have tied and for the place(s) immediately below shall be added together and divided equally. Boats tied for a race prize shall share it or be given equal prizes.

Moon (moonglownight Resident) and Jenna (jnx1e Resident) both finished tied with 8 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
moonglownight Resident 2 6
jnx1e Resident 3 5

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Moon’s favor with having a first place finish over Jenna’s second place finish as her best.

Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook) and Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) both finished tied with 9 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

Choppy to smooth seas, with a great fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The North Sea regions were slightly choppy for the start of our monthly There and Back Again version of the regatta, with five DNFs (Did Not Finish) recorded on the day. All five of those DNFs occurred during the first portion of the regatta. Two DNFs were due to skippers crashing on region crossings. A third DNF was due to a skipper pulling her boat after being frustrated from getting caught in irons1, with the remaining two DNFs the result of skippers crashing while crossing on region corners. The seas calmed for the second race of the regatta, with every skipper staring and finishing out of a fleet of 16 boats. The crowd that initially gathered on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier, in the Eden Jakana region, and then followed the fleet, viewing from the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, cheered on the great racing on display from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Curlew to Jaeger 01 and North Sea Jaeger to Curlew 01 courses, was comprised of a majority of ten Bandit 22 LTEs. Calm seas, that turned stormy late, and a great fleet turnout highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The North Sea regions were calm and smooth for the first portion of our monthly There and Back Again series across the width of the entire estate, as every skipper finished without a hiccup. The seas turned choppy late into the second portion, as the Mammea region decided to take a late lunch and go offline, taking two skippers with it resulting in the only two DNFs (Did Not Finish) recorded on the day. The crowd that gathered on the small race dock, in the Eden Jakana region, and then following the fleet, hopping to the islands in the Ziziphus, Genip, and Eden Auk regions, reveled and cheered on this weeks Bandit skippers as they put on a lively display of fleet racing. Saturday afternoon was beautiful, with good sailing weather and no thunderstorms to be seen.
This time we had ten Bandit IFs including two with crew. A skipper dropped out before the start, leaving us with nine boats.

We had a great start again. Immediately after the start we had a leading group of two boats with five pursuers. One of the pursuers had found a tie with the two leaders at the second mark. The three of them would determine the rest of the race. At the start of the last leg, two of the front-runners had taken the lead and the third front-runner had fallen a bit behind, but then two boats joined him to compete for third place.

The second race also had a good start and there were already two groups with four boats at the start. However, the two groups came together again at the first buoy. The fleet began to stretch slowly until everyone sailed consecutively. The race director had a surprise for the sailors halfway through the race, because we had a change in wind strength and direction around the island in the Genip region.

We had one DNF (Did Not Finish) through both races, however it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

More pictures after the results.

Today’s winner was Julie (JulieRoyale Resident), with Siri (Sirius Rosca) second, and Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.

Race Notes:
Sirius (Sirius Rosca) and Rugger (Ruggeromare Resident) both finished the first race tied at the finishing line with a time of 20:27. As their final time also remains tied, as they both sailed the same boat, Rule A7 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to score this tie:

If boats are tied at the finishing line or if a handicap or rating system is used and boats have equal corrected times, the points for the place for which the boats have tied and for the place(s) immediately below shall be added together and divided equally. Boats tied for a race prize shall share it or be given equal prizes.

Therefore, both Sirius Rosca and Ruggeromare Resident receive 3.5 points, as the product for the place for which they have tied and for the place immediately below, 3 and 4, added together and divided equally.

Max (Maximiliano Szondi) and Tamar (Tamara Czervik) both finished tied with 13 points.

Calm sim sailing weather, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. The North Sea regions were well behaved for almost everyone, with only one DNF (Did Not Finish) recorded on the day, due to a skipper crashing to her desktop in the middle of the last region before the finish of the second race. The spectators on hand, on the Bandit1 party dock and small race dock, both in the Eden Jakana region, and on the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, reveled in the great fleet-foiled feline frenzy on display from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Curlew to Jaeger 01 and North Sea Jaeger to Curlew 01 courses, was comprised entirely of six The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, five sailing with crew and one sailing single-handed respectively.

Saturday afternoon, it was a beautiful day for sailing. This time we had six Bandit IFs including one with crew.

The North Sea regions behaved reasonably well. However, we had the first dropout not long after the start. This race went quite well and exciting because we had a group of three boats that stayed close together, but one of them took the lead and never let go. The second place was decided at the end of the last leg.

The second race started very energetically for all sailors, nevertheless they got a storm halfway through the race before them, so we had two dropouts. Two other sailors fell out of the boat but were able to jump into the boat, so that they could continue sailing. The race was decided by these two sailors on the finish line and brought us a surprising new winner.

We had two DSQs (Disqualified) and three DNFs (Did Not Finish) through both races, however it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) was disqualified (DSQ) during the second race for finishing the race failing to complete a 360° penalty turn as instructed by a race director due to a Rule 10 foul against another skipper.

Tamar (Tamara Czervik) and Siri (Sirius Rosca) both finished tied with 3 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

“If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.“

Tamara Czervik 2 1
Sirius Rosca 1 2

In the last race, Tamarushka breaks the tie with Siri with her first place finish over Siri’s second place finish.

Dunia (Dunia Moulliez) and Rugger (ruggeromare Resident ) both finished tied with 7 points.

In the last race, Dunia breaks the tie with Rugger with her third place finish over Rugger’s forth place finish.

Max (Maximiliano Szondi) and Jack (Jacquimo Resident) both finished tied with 9 points. As they both have the exact same finishes, finishing with a five point finish during the first race and a four point finish during the second race respectively, neither Rule A8.1 or Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing will satisfy breaking their tie. Therefore, Max and Jack remain tied in fifth place overall.

The first North Sea Bandit Regatta of May saw a great fleet turnout with some late choppy sailing weather. The regions of The North Sea were well behaved for the start of our monthly There and Back Again version of the North Sea Bandit Regatta, as all thirteen boats in the first race fleet completed the multi-raceline first race with no issues, from the Eden Curlew region raceline to the Eden Jaeger region raceline, spanning the entire North Sea estate. The regions turned a bit stormy during the start of the second race, the return trip from the Eden Jaeger raceline back to the Eden Curlew raceline, as two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded from skippers crashing on region crossings. The spectators that came out to watch this weeks Bandit skippers, witnessed some great racing as they gathered on the islands in the Ziziphus, Genip, and Eden Auk regions, as well as the marina in the Eden Murrelet region, and the small race docks in the Eden Jaeger and Eden Jakana regions. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Curlew to Jaeger 02 and North Sea Jaeger to Curlew 01 courses, was comprised of a majority of nine Bandit IFs, eight sailing single-handed and one sailing with crew respectively. Four Bandit 25Rs rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.

Saturday afternoon. It was a beautiful day for sailing. This time we had eight Bandit IFs, including three with crew. Before the start of the first west row, the first boat had to leave us, leaving us with seven boats. The first race went smoothly and the fleet stayed together for a long time. Halfway through the race in the middle of Eden, the fleet split up. The North Sea and Eden regions behaved very well.
In the second game, the fleet slowly disintegrated after the first mark. Also because there was a kind of chaos because a skipper at the mark almost missed. At the end of the race, the leaders were even more out of the rest of the fleet.
We had one DNF (Did Not Finish) and no DSQs (Disqualified) and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

More pictures after the results.

Smooth to slightly choppy sim sailing weather, with a great fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The regions of the North Sea started out incredibly smooth, as the only one DNF (Did Not Finish) was recorded during the first race, due to a skipper pulling her boat when she realized she had been sailing an incorrect course. The seas turned slightly choppy during the second race as two more DNFs were recorded, both due to skippers crashing on crossings. The crowds on hand, gathered on the islands in the Genip, Ziziphus, and Eden Auk regions, as well as both small race docks, in the Eden Jakana and Eden Jaeger regions, were treated to some great racing from our monthly There and Back Again set of races, using both race lines in the Eden Curlew and Eden Jaeger regions. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Curlew to Jaeger 02 and North Sea Jaeger to Curlew 01 courses, was comprised of a small majority of seven Bandit 25Rs. Six Bandit IFs, five sailing single-handed and one sailing with crew, made up the remainder of this weeks Bandit fleet.

Bandit Regatta – Jan 6th 2020

The fleet gets underway at the beginning of the first race of the first North Sea Bandit Regatta of the year, on Monday, January 6th, 2020.

The fleet gets underway at the beginning of the first race of the first North Sea Bandit Regatta of the year, on Monday, January 6th, 2020.

Mild sim sailing weather with a great fleet turnout highlighted the first North Sea Bandit Regatta of 2020. The regions of the North Sea were in pretty decent shape, after New years, as no DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. That didn’t mean any skippers escaped without incident as three different skippers found themselves stripped from their boats, at separate times, on region crossings. Those skippers were able to teleport back to their boats and finish their respective races with varying results. The new year also brought a nice crowd, to view not only the first race of the 2020 season for the North Sea, but also our monthly There and Back Again jaunt from the Eden Curlew race line to the Eden Jaeger race line and back. The crowds viewed the sailing from this weeks Bandit fleet from the usual friendly spots at the islands in the Ziziphus, Genip, and Eden Auk regions, as well as the Poseidon Centre Spectator pier, in the Eden Jakana region, and the small race dock in the Eden Jaeger region. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Curlew to Jaeger 01 and North Sea Jaeger to Curlew 01 courses, was comprised of a majority of six Bandit IFs, split evenly between three sailing single-handed and three sailing with crew. Four Bandit 25Rs rounded out this weeks fleet.

With the start of the new season of racing, also brings a whole years worth of racing data to collate. 25 handicapping runs, races on North Sea Olympic Course (Long) the North Sea Standardized handicapping course, were held throughout the year across all of our combined races during 2019. The data from these 25 races will be added to the North Sea tally to update the standardized average as well as the handicap times of all the boats in those races. At the publishing of these results, the following handicaps have been adjusted as well as a new handicap created for the crewed Bandit IF:

Boat Old Value New Value
Bandit IF 0.58 0.57
Bandit IF Crewed N/A 0.59
Bandit 25 0.83 0.82
Bandit 50 0.84 0.83
Bandit 50/3 0.68 0.67
Bandit 55 0.62 0.61

At the publishing of the Open Regatta results, later this week, we will have a lot more handicap updates as well as some details and stats about the North Sea Handicap Table.
