Our monthly There and Back Again was on the plate for this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The regions behaved well for both courses, North Sea Breadnut to Eden Auk and North Sea Eden Auk to Breadnut, as not a single DNF was recorded. Spectators came out to watch our monthly cross estate romp as both docks in the Genip and Eden Puffin regions were packed as well as Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus Region and the lighthouse in the corner of the Eden Godwit region. This weeks fleet featured an even mix of four Bandit IFs and four Bandit 25s. Our newest race director, Daenerys, was also lead race director of the Bandit Regatta for the first of many times to come.

Smooth seas and a nice turnout featured in this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The sims were well behaved today as not a crash was had in either race along with no DNFs (Did Not Finish). We saw a nice fleet for both races, with 8 bots in each, evenly split with four Bandit 25s and four Bandit IFs. This was also our monthly There And Back Again as the fleet raced on North Sea Breadnut to Eden Auk for race 1 and North Sea Eden Auk to Breadnut for race 2. Plus, we again had a great spectator turnout as the beaches in Eden Albatros and Ziziphus had crowds along with the race docks in Eden Puffin and Genip.

Pleasant seas and another great spectator turn out greeted this weeks fleet during the North Sea Bandit Regatta. The regions behaved well as no DNFs or crashes were recorded to region issues. Lighthouse Isle, in the Ziziphus region, saw a nice turnout of spectators along with the committee boat docks in the Breadnut and Eden Auk regions. This week was our monthly There and Back Again as the fleet raced from the race line in the Breadnut region to the race line in the Eden Auk region and back again. This weeks fleet was comprised of a majority of six Bandit IFs with two bandit 25s making up the remainder.

Race Notes:
Daenerys (blondij Resident) and Riz (RIZLER Rodex) both finished with 14 points. From the left (in Patchogue IIs): Rugger, Ellem, Cor, Burton, Red, and Neil.
On the dock: Cryptic.

This weeks Trudeau Patchogue II class races featured great sim weather with some really spirited racing. The sims behaved themselves well with no DNFs or crashes on the day. We also saw a nice turnout of spectators, as people gathered along the shore in the Eden Albatros region and also along the beaches of Lighthouse Isle, in the Ziziphus region, to watch the fleet on both courses. Petra was to direct this race but circumstances out of her control tied her up and I directed the race in her place. We would also like to welcome Ellem to racing in SL as these were her first races as a skipper.

The first race, on the North Sea Breadnut to Eden Auk course, saw the fleet get off to a great start as all 5 boats were across the start line as 26 seconds ticked off the race clock. Ellem started her race career off well, getting the fleet started as she crossed the start line at 00:00:03. Burton was next to cross the start line at 00:00:15, followed by Red, crossing at 00:00:24. Cor and Neil were next across the start line, crossing together at 00:00:26. The fleet stayed tightly packed along the first leg to the first course mark, the green buoy south of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region. Red made her move, after rounding the course mark, and passed Cor, as Neil, Ellem, and Burton followed. Red held onto her small lead as she crossed the finish line, in the Eden Auk region, first, followed by Cor, crossing second. Neil crossed the finish line next, in third, followed by Ellem, crossing in fourth, and Burton, crossing in fifth.

The second race, on the North Sea Eden Auk to Breadnut course, saw the wind change for the fleet, from the 225°(SW) 18 knots of the first race to 135°(SE) 18 knots. This time Cor got things started for the fleet, as he crossed the start line at 00:00:12. Burton was next to cross the start line at 00:00:17, followed by Neil, crossing at 00:00:20, Red, crossing at 00:00:22, and Ellem, crossing at 00:00:53. Cor kept on a starboard tack, heading east and then finally tacking south, in the Eden Albatros sim, while the rest of the fleet tacked to port in the Eden Fulmar region, heading south early. Red lead the fleet that tacked south early, followed by Neil, Ellem, and Burton, who fell back after getting stuck in irons as he tacked. As everyone converged ont he first course mark, the green buoy south of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region, Cor and Red met up at the mark, both side by side as the cleared the mark, with Neil right on their stern. Red, Cor, and Neil remained tightly packed as they all approached the second course mark, the pink buoy in the Eden Fulmar region, with Cor coming out slightly ahead after all three rounded the mark. Ellem followed just to the rear with Burton closing in behind her. Ellem’s lead over Burton slipped as Burton passed her on the final leg to the finish line. Cor would hold his slight lead as he crossed the finish line first, followed by Red in second, Neil crossing third, Burton in fourth, and Ellem in fifth.

On the dock: Elbag, Annalena, Helena, Petra, Lucy, Nenrio, Penny and Cryptic.

Smooth seas with light winds building to heavier winds featured in this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. This was our monthly ‘There and Back Again’ series of races between both race lines in the North Sea, in the Breadnut and Eden Auk regions. The sims behaved themselves excellently as no DNFs to crashes were recorded. The wind started out fairly light for the first race but picked up for the second race. This weeks fleet featured a majority of eleven Bandit IFs with one lone Bandit 25. We also had a nice turnout of spectators in the usual spots in the Eden Albatros, Eden Puffin, Ziziphus, and Breadnut regions. We would also like to congratulate Shriurra, who raced in her first two races in her new Bandit IF.

The first race, on the Breadnut to Eden Auk course, saw the fleet entirely made up of Bandit IFs. The wind was light at 11 knots and out of the southwest. The fleet got off to a paced start as half of the racers were over the start line as 35 seconds ticked off the race clock. Jackson got things started as he crossed the start line first at 00:00:06. Alice followed suit, crossing the start line at 00:00:09 followed by Alexandre at 00:00:19. Ultra was next to cross the start line at 00:00:23. Red was across the start line next at 00:00:34 with Neil right on her stern, crossing at 00:00:35. Rugger was next to cross the start line at 00:00:59, followed by Daenerys at 00:01:03, Elbag at 00:01:08, Moon at 00:01:15, and Shriurra, racing in her first race, at 00:02:16. Jackson took advantage of his great start and held onto the pack lead for the duration of the course. Alice was right behind Jackson, on his stern the entire course. Alexandre and Ultra had a great battle as they raced neck and neck with Ultra ultimately coming out ahead. Red was just behind with Neil just aft of her the whole course. Daenerys settled in next with Moon behind her. Rugger fell back in the fleet, settling behind Moon. Shriurra took up the rear of the fleet. Elbag was right on the stern Deanerys and Rugger on the first leg, but RL grabbed him, causing him to abandon the race and record a DNF. Jackson crossed the finish line first, taking line honors. Alice crossed the finish line second followed by Ultra, Alexandre, Red, Neil, Daenerys, Moon, Rugger, and Shriurra.

The second race, on the Eden Auk to Breadnut course, saw the inclusion of the lone Bandit 25 in the fleet. The wind picked up at 18 knots and changed direction, coming from the southeast. The fleet got off to a slightly slower start with half the fleet across the line as 52 seconds ticked off the race clock. Ultra got things started, as he crossed the start line at 00:00:!2. Moon was next to cross the start line at 00:00:21 followed by Daenerys at 00:00:30. Alexandre was across the start line next 00:00:35 followed by Bianca, in the lone Bandit 25, crossing at 00:00:49. Gryfin was next to cross the start line at 00:00:52 followed by Jackson at 00:00:55, Neil at 00:00:57, Alice at 00:01:00, Red at 00:01:16, Rugger at 00:01:19, and Shriurra at 00:01:22. Ultra held onto his great for a majority of the course but could not hold off Alexandre who made several moves through the fleet to overtake the lead. Moon fell back settling into the middle of the fleet from his great start. Daenerys also fell back in the fleet, settling in just aft of Alice and Moon. Bianca, in the lone Bandit 25, saw her WiFi connection drop and ultimately recorded a DNF. Gryfin slid back into the fleet, settling in behind Daenerys. Jackson and Neil were in a nice position battle as they both made moves to gain in the fleet. Neil came out slightly ahead as both settled in right behind Red, towards the front of the fleet. Alice picked up two spots from her starting position as she battled Moon throughout the race. Rugger and Shriurra both took up positions at the rear of the fleet. Alexandre was across the finish line in first, taking line honors. Ultra crossed the finish line second, followed by Red, Neil, Jackson, Moon, Alice, Daenerys, Gryfin, Rugger, and Shriurra.

Bandit Regatta – February 13th 2017

From the left (in boats): Arwyn (Bandit 25), Red (Bandit IF), Carlota (Bandit IF), and Jackson (Bandit IF). On the dock: Gabi, Joshua, Bonni, Gryfin, Petra, and Cryptic.

From the left (in boats): Arwyn (Bandit 25), Red (Bandit IF), Carlota (Bandit IF), and Jackson (Bandit IF).
On the dock: Gabi, Joshua, Bonni, Gryfin, Petra, and Cryptic.

This weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta saw smooth sim weather with high winds early that calmed down later. The sims behaved marvelously today as we had no crashes. The Bullace region has been given a clean bill of health after LL gave it some TLC on Friday. This was also our monthly There and Back Again series, featuring both race lines located in The North Sea. The wind was a bit high for the first race, at 21kts but died down for the second race, at 15kts. We had a nice turn out of spectators along the shores of Lighthouse Isle, in the Ziziphus region, the shores in the Eden Albatros region, and at the Robbins Reef Lighthouse in the Eden Auk region. This weeks fleet was made up of a majority of seven Bandit IFs with one Bandit 25.

The first race, the There portion on the North Sea Breadnut to Eden Auk course, saw the fleet off to a great start in high winds of 21kts out of the southwest (225°). Jackson, in his Bandit IF, got things started as he crossed the start line at 00:00:02. Carlota, in her Bandit IF, was next to cross the start line at 00:00:12, followed by Red, in her Bandit IF, at 00:00:23. Arwyn, in her Bandit 25, was across the start line next at 00:00:29, followed by Noel, in his Bandit IF, at 00:00:30 and Neil, in his Bandit IF, at 00:00:39. Moon, in his Bandit IF, was next to cross the start line at 00:00::45 with Bonni, in her Bandit IF, crossing at 00:01:04. Arwyn, in her much faster Bandit 25, jumped out ahead of the fleet before the first mark, the green buoy south of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region. Jackson squeaked his way past Carlota, both in Bandit IFs, to settle into second in the fleet. Red, in her Bandit IF, settles in just aft of Carlota with Noel, in his Bandit IF, right on her stern. Neil, in his Bandit IF, was just to their rear as Moon, in his Bandit IF, was at the rear of the fleet. Bonni had to abandon the race, due to a RL commitment, and received a DNF. Arwyn increased her lead and crossed the finish line first, as Jackson crossed shortly after, in second. Carlota crossed the finish line next, followed by Red, Noel, Neil, and Moon.

The second race, the and Back Again portion on the North Sea Eden Auk to Breadnut course, saw the winds die down a bit to 15kts as they shifted direction out of the southeast (135°). Jackson, in his Bandit IF, once again got things started, crossing the start line at 00:00:04. Carlota, in her Bandit IF, was right on his stern, crossing the start line at 00:00:05. Neil, in his Bandit IF, was next to cross the start line at 00:00:13 followed by Red, in her Bandit IF, at 00:00:20. Arwyn, in her Bandit 25, was across the start line next at 00:00:30 followed by Noel, in his Bandit IF, at 00:00:41 and Moon, in his Bandit IF, at 00:01:11. Once again, Arwyn, in her much faster Bandit 25, dashed into the lead. Jackson, in his Bandit IF, was vying for position with Carlota, in her Bandit IF, when he took an ill timed tack to the south and got himself stuck in irons. Carlota took advantage and passed Jackson, as Neil, in his Bandit IF, and Red, in her Bandit IF, did as well. Noel, in his Bandit IF, and Moon, in his Bandit IF, brought up the rear of the fleet. Carlota, Neil and Red, all in their Bandit IFs, engaged in a mini-battle as they all were neck and neck heading to the second course mark, the pink buoy in the Eden Fulmar region. Red pulled off a slick inside turn around the buoy, passing Carlota and Neil, who had both come into the mark zone a bit high. Carlota slipped in just lee of Red, as Neil fell back just aft of them. Carlota and Red would continue to stay neck and neck until the third course mark, the blue buoy in the Sapote region, when Carlota finally got an edge and lead ahead of Red. Arwyn crossed the finish line first, however she missed rounding the blue buoy in the Sapote region correctly and was disqualified. Carlota crossed the finish line next followed by Red, Neil, Noel, Jackson, and Moon.

This weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta, featuring our monthly There and Back Again set of courses, saw a nice turnout with another large spectator turnout. The sims behaved for the first race, however turned a bit choppy during the second as they claimed three in the fleet with crashes causing DNFs. The spectators continue to turnout out in large numbers along the beach in the Eden Albatros region. Plus more were on Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier in the Eden Puffin region, gathered atop the lighthouse that is the name sake of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region, and also at the committee boat in the Breadnut region. This week’s fleet was another all Bandit IF affair with seven sailors racing.

The first race, on the North Sea Breadnut to Eden Auk course which is the There portion of the series, saw a great fleet start with a wind out of the southwest (225°) at 18 kts. Dess got things going, crossing the start line at 00:00:03 with Kurt was right on her stern, crossing the start line at 00:00:04, with Jackson following right behind at 00:00:08. Carlota was next to cross the start line, at 00:00:19, followed by Neil, at 00:00:25, Margo, at 00:00:34, and Moon, at 00:00:53. Dess’s short lead at the front of the pack, from a great start did not last long, however as Jackson, Carlota, Neil, Kurt, and Margo all tacked to a better line west to the first mark, the green buoy south of Lighthouse Isle in the Ziziphus region, placing Dess behind them. Jackson would charge ahead and maintain his lead to the finish line in Eden Auk, claiming line honors. Carlota would cross the finish line second, followed by Neil, Kurt, Margo, Dess, and Moon.

The second race, on the North Sea Eden Auk course which is the Back Again leg of the series, saw the wind flip to 135° (SE) still blowing at 18kts. Carlota got things started this time, as she crossed the start line first at 00:00:16. Dess, still showing some a great pre-start routine, crossed next at 00:00:33. Moon was right behind her, crossing at 00:00:39, followed by Neil, at 00:00:41, Margo, at 00:00:59, Jackson, at 00:01:00, and finally Kurt, at 00:01:22. Jackson, although next to last across the start line, took the port tack line alone down to the Nance region then tacking east to the first mark, the green buoy south of Lighthouse Isle, in the Ziziphus region. The rest of the fleet took the starboard tack line out of the race line to the Eden Albatros region where they tacked south to the Ziziphus region. The southern tack to the Ziziphus region by the rest of the fleet is where the trouble started as several crashed crossing the region border from the Mammea region into the Ziziphus region. Dess, Moon, and Kurt would all not recover here, subsequently recording DNFs. Carlota and Margo were able to get back to their boats and continue on. Neil went through unscathed and slipped into second behind Jackson, who’s alternate line placed him in the lead. Jackson’s lead would hold as he crossed the finish line first, taking line honors. Neil crossed the finish line second, followed by Carlota, and Margo.

This weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta saw some really great sim weather and a great turnout. The sims behaved well as the fleet raced back and forth across the North Sea in our monthly ‘There and Back Again’ series between the Breadnut race line and the Eden Auk race line. The turn out for today’s regatta was excellent as we had nine Bandit IFs and one Bandit 25 in the fleet mix.

Race Note:
Carlota (Carlota Dufaux) and Jackson (Jacquimo Resident) both finished tied with 9 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
Carlota Dufaux 3 6
Jacquimo Resident 4 5
