Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted the first North Sea Bandit Regatta for March, 2023. With a fresh breeze of 18 knots out of the southwest, The North Sea regions were generally well behaved as two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. The first DNF, recorded during the first race, was from a skipper’s internet connection giving out due to stormy weather in her neighborhood. The remaining DNF, recorded during the second race, was from a skipper crashing while crossing over region corners. The crowds that gathered on the beaches of the islands in the Ziziphus, and Genip regions, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, were thrilled by an enlivened display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea 107 and North Sea 108 courses, was made up of a majority of six Bandit 22 LTEs. Four Bandit IFs, three sailing single-handed and one crewed respectively, one Bandit 25R, and one Bandit 50/3 rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.

Race Notes:
Vicky (Vicky4698 Resident), ViV (vivipezz Resident), and Red (RedHeadJO Resident) all finished tied with 13 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Vicky’s favor with having a first place finish over ViV’s and Red’s fifth place finishes as their best.

As ViV and Red both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this remaining tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. With a fresh breeze of 18 knots out of the southwest, The North Sea regions were calm for most as two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. The first DNF, occurring during the second race, was from a skipper crashing she crossed over region corners. The later DNF, also occurring during the second race, was from a skipper crashing as she crossed over the border between the Mammea and Muskmelon regions. The crowds that gathered on the beaches on the islands in the Ziziphus, and Genip regions, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, enjoyed an eager display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on North Sea Olympic Course (Long) and the North Sea 107 courses, was made up of a majority of ten Bandit 22 LTEs. One Bandit IF rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.

Race Notes:
Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) and Nicole (Nicole Myhre) both finished the second race tied at the finishing line with a time of 11:11. As their final time also remains tied, as they both sailed the same boat, Rule A7 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to score this tie:

If boats are tied at the finishing line or if a handicap or rating system is used and boats have equal corrected times, the points for the place for which the boats have tied and for the place(s) immediately below shall be added together and divided equally. Boats tied for a race prize shall share it or be given equal prizes.

Therefore, both Rugger and Nicole receive 1.5 points, as the product for the place for which they have tied and for the place immediately below, 1 and 2, added together and divided equally.

Alejandro (Boogie Aeghin) was disqualified (DSQ) during the second race for finishing under protest while failing to complete a 360° panelty turn due to a Rule 18.2 Giving Mark-Room foul.

18.2 Giving Mark-Room
(b) If boats are overlapped when the first of them reaches the zone, the outside boat at that moment shall
thereafter give the inside boat mark-room. If a boat is clear ahead when she reaches the zone,
the boat clear astern at that moment shall thereafter give her mark-room.

Stormy to calming seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The North Sea regions were stormy during the first race but calmed down for the second race as three DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. All three DNFs, recorded during the first race, occurred when three skippers ran into a storm surge entering the Ziziphus region. The crowds that gathered on the shores of the island in the Ziziphus region, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, reveled in a competitive display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. Another beautiful Saturday afternoon in October was the backdrop for this weeks North Sea Bandit IF Regatta. We started with nine Bandit IFs. One of the Bandit IFs had crew on board.

The first race got off to a good start. Eight of the nine boats departed simultaneously. One boat stayed slightly behind, but the race was still young. During the first leg, three skippers (Dunia, Moon, Siri) took a different route to the first mark. The others followed their way south. Julie was the first to round the mark, followed shortly by Jack, Moon, Rugger and Siri. The fleet was already spreading out over the North Sea. Julie got ahead of her pursuers. The first group consisted of Moon, Jack and Siri. Then Red and Rugger followed, the latter had to stop the race in the second half.

At the start of the second race, the entire fleet rushed to the start. This ended well, so that again a nice start took place. The road to the first mark was short, and Julie took the lead again. Shortly followed by Moon, Siri and Red. Behind that we had a group of three, namely Jack, Rugger and Emi. Jack tried to connect with Red and Siri. Who, on their own, gave chase to Moon. Julie, meanwhile, had run away from the fleet again. In this order they would end the day.

There was one DNF (Did Not Finish) and no DSQs (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted the first Cat Fight in The North Sea for October, 2022. With a fresh breeze of 18 knots out of the southwest, calming to 15 knots during the second race, The North Sea regions were well behaved as two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. Both DNFs were attributed to a single Skipper as she was sailing in her first races and pulled her boat in the middle of each race from getting lost on the course. The crowds that gathered on the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, and along the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on the frantic fleet-foiled feline furor on display from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea 107 and North Sea Bowline Reverse courses, was made up of a majority of seven The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, six sailing single-handed and one crewed respectively. A beautiful Saturday afternoon in August saw the last North Sea Bandit IF Regatta for August, 2022. We started with six Bandit IFs.

At the start of the first race, we had a strange duck in the fleet. It was not Donald duck but a Bandit 25. The skipper knew he was not allowed to participate. The Bandit IF fleet set out for the first route. This was a puzzle1 route. Heading into the first mark, Julie and Moon took the lead and were followed by Max, Siri and Zero. Rugger lagged behind. This is how the order remained until the last leg. Here, Moon started the sprint but he still had to let Julie go ahead on the line.

The second race was a newly created course and the same as the first route, but in reverse. On the way to the first mark, the fleet split up. Julie and Zero turned west. While the men, Rugger, Moon, Max and Siri continued to sail south. Moon returned first, followed by Julie and Zero. During the race, Moon would slowly run out. Julie and Zero would battle for second place. Siri and Max followed this battle from a distance.

There were two DNFs (Did Not Finish) and no DSQs (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

1A puzzle route is a course were skippers are given a map of numbered buoys in the race notice. During the skippers meeting for the race, the skippers are then given a sequence of numbers that represent the order and form of the course to be sailed.
