This weeks North Sea Bandit IF Regatta took place on a slightly stormy Saturday afternoon in February. We had six bandit IFs at the start. One Bandit IF had crew on board.

The fleet set out with Julie in the lead. Moon, Siri and Darb at an appropriate distance. As the match progressed, Moon and Siri joined Julie. Darb and Marcus soon became distant.

At the start of the second race, Julie took the lead again. She was immediately followed by Siri, Moon, and Rugger. Halfway through the race, a storm (https://status.secondlifegrid.net/incidents/qjsnz431kdqm) was created by SL™. This caused Julie, and Siri to lose their way. Moon, and Rugger took advantage of this. Julie, and Siri had to pull out all the stops to reconnect with Moon, and Rugger. Rugger was still overtaken, but Moon had the lead for good

Finally, it was time. The third and final race of the day. The storm had passed again. And a seventh sailor joined the party. This time it was crowded at the starting line. Moon, Julie, Siri, Jack, and Rugger left almost simultaneously. The quintet headed for the first mark in good spirits. Here Julie took the lead. Moon followed in her wake. Jack had to drop out. At the turning point, Julie was still in charge. She wouldn’t let this one go

There was one DNF (Did Not Finish) and two DSQs (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

Another beautiful Saturday afternoon in August was the scene for this weeks North Sea Bandit IF Regatta. We started with seven Bandit IFs. Two of the seven bandit IFs had crew on board.

At the start of the first race, three skippers immediately took a slight lead. By the second mark the leading group had fallen apart. The four skippers who stayed behind had connected with the skipper who sailed in third place. However, by the end of the next mark, he took over the second place. During the remainder of the race, the fleet broke in two again and the first three skippers took a big lead over the rest. This lead was never relinquished. Sadly, after this race, a skipper had to cancel the following races due to bad luck.

In the second race we left with seven Bandit IFs. The skippers soon chose their own path to the first mark. And there it turned out that the fleet was still close together. Two groups of three skippers were formed, but the distance between the two groups remained small. The skippers in the groups turned out to be evenly matched. This made it an exciting race. Things got even more exciting when the second group caught up with the first group. Now we had the whole fleet of six boats together again. One skipper had to let the other five go, and in the Guanabana region channel, we had four leaders who did not yield an inch to the other skippers. At the last mark a skipper got stuck in a sandbank and another skipper had to let the other two skippers go.

And there was still a final race to go and a new skipper came forward, so we were again with seven boats.
At the start of the third race, one skipper started on port and the other on starboard tack, the first skipper calculated this correctly and immediately took the lead. The fleet had to set sail to catch up with the first skipper. At the first mark they had done that, a fleet of six boats, the seventh boat had fallen a bit behind, they were heading for the turning point. However, this match would go smoothly again.

There were no DNFs (Did Not Finish) and no DSQs (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

This weeks North Sea Bandit IF Regatta took place on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in the winter. This time we had a fleet of eight Bandit IF’s at the start. Two of the eight Bandit IFs had crews. The North Sea and Fruit regions behaved well and there was not a cloud in the sky.

We had a great start and the fleet stayed close from the start. As a result, we would have a compact fleet until halfway through the first race. Halfway through the race a skipper had steering problems but he recovered, but had lost a number of places as a result.

In the second race, a pack of five boats led the fleet. The other three boats were sailed at a distance. The race was partly between the Isles of Fruit. The five skippers stayed together until the finish and they changed positions regularly.

In the third and final race of the day, two skippers took the lead, followed by five other skippers. The last skipper had to give up due to technical problems

There was one DNF (Did Not Finish) and one DSQ (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

Saturday afternoon was beautiful afternoon in the fall. This time we had a fleet of nine Bandit IFs at the start. Two of the nine Bandit IFs had crew. The North Sea regions and Fruit regions were well behaved and there was not a cloud in the sky. After the first race, another Bandit joined the company.

We had a good start and we had a group of five boats right from the start. One of the chased boats split immediately after take-off. This boat joined the company at the first mark. After this mark, the leader took the lead on the chasing group. In the Sapodilla region another boat joined the chasing group. Which gave us a leader with a group of five pursuers. This group fell apart after the match slowly progressed and the order of entry was decided at the Eden Albatros region.

In the second race, we had a group of five boats heading for the first mark. After the second mark we had a front runner with two groups of two boaters that were well matched. These were chased by three other boats. After the second mark everyone went their own way. At the third mark, we had a vast group of six boats. One of the skippers broke down here and had to give up

It was a beautiful day for sailing, Saturday afternoon. This time we again had nine boats of the same class, namely Bandit IFs, two of the Bandit IFs had crew. The North Sea regions behaved well and even in the Fruit waters there was not a cloud in the sky. However, during the first race, we had a storm in the Morinda region.

We had a good start and immediately after the start four skippers split off by tackling immediately. The rounding of the first mark went smoothly. After the third mark, two skippers had taken the lead, but they would end up in a thunderstorm. They were chased by a group of five boats. After the thunderstorm we had a front runner with a chasing group of four, which slowly fell apart.

The start of the second race was also excellent and a fleet of seven boats sailed to the first two marks, of which the first mark was an island. After the second mark, each skipper made their own way along the coastline to the third mark, dancing between tacking in time and not touching each other. At the third mark we had a leader who had split off, followed by a group of four and three boats. Between the fourth and sixth mark we had a hard fight for fourth and fifth place.

We had one DNF (Did Not Finish) and no DSQs (Disqualififed) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

Saturday afternoon was beautiful, in the middle of a hot summer, with good sailing weather and not a single thunderstorm to be seen. This time we invited several classes to make this Saturday afternoon a special match. So we had seven Bandit IFs, two Bandit 22 LTEs and two The Mesh Shop (TMS) Star Class, one with crew and one sailing single-handed respectively.
The boats would all start simultaneously, but there would be three races here at the same time. Because all boats sail under BOSS3, we could deviate from the standard wind direction that everyone can now dream. For me BOSS3 and BOSS4 is the future for sailing in Secondlife™.

We had a good start again. Immediately after the start, two groups of four boats were already formed
After the first buoy a Bandit 22 took the lead, this was followed by two Bandit IFs who competed for first place for the Bandit IF class. The two TMS Star Classes got stuck between the other Bandit IFs. Halfway through the race we lost a TMS Star Class.

In the second race, the Bandit IFs took the lead at the start. Rounding the first mark, an island, we had a group of nine boats. However, we lost two Bandit IFs at the second mark. The route took us along the pier of Eden Jakana to Eden Albatros. Here a Bandit 22 was in charge of a group of five boats, including a TMS Star Class.

We had four DNFs (Did Not Finish) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

It was a beautiful day for sailing, Saturday afternoon. This time we had eight Bandit IFs, including two with crew.
The North Sea regions behaved well, and even in the Fruit Islands waters there was not a cloud in the air.

We had a great start. Immediately after the start, the fleet spread out to navigate the best route to the first buoy and the urgency of the ship was carried on. That was slightly different with other buoys, and I recommend everyone to read the following line again:

18.2 Giving Mark-Room
(b) If boats are overlapped when the first of them reaches the zone, the outside boat at that moment shall
thereafter give the inside boat mark-room. If a boat is clear ahead when she reaches the zone,
the boat clear astern at that moment shall thereafter give her mark-room.“

As the battle progressed, the fleet slowly disintegrated and two boats had to drop out on the way to the finish. These were also the only two dropouts of the day.

The second race went better and became a perfect race. Everyone took more account of each other. However, before the start, a participant decided to switch, so that the skipper became the crew.

We had no DSQs (disqualified) and two DNFs (Did Not Finish) through both races, however it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

Today’s winner was Moon (moonglownight Resident), with Jack (Jacquimo Resident) second, and Rugger (ruggeromare Resident ) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.

Race Notes:

Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) and Siri (Sirius Rosca) both finished tied with 7 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Sirius Rosca 3 4

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Ruggers favor with having a second place finish over Siri’s third place as his best.

Saturday afternoon. It was a beautiful day for sailing. This time we had ten Bandit IFs, including four with crew.
The North Sea regions behaved very well.
The first race went smoothly and the fleet stayed together for a long time. Several mutual fights started, which kept the race exciting. From the start, two boats broke away from the fleet to rejoin the fleet at the first buoy. A skipper managed not to give room at two buoys, so he had to make two 360° penalty turns.

The second race went smoothly and the fleet stayed together almost to the end. Also in this competition, mutual fights ensued, so that it remained spanned for a long time. However, the competition was dominated from start to finish by a skipper who slipped ahead of the fleet during the start.

We had one DSQ (Disqualified) through both races, and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

Moon (moonglownight Resident), Ultra (ultramantra Resident) and Jack (Jacquimo Resident) all finished tied with 7 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Moon’s favor with having a second place finish over Ultra’s and Jack’s third place as their best. Furthermore, as Ultra and Jacksboth have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to further break this tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

ultramantra Resident 4 3
Jacquimo Resident 3 4

In the last race, Ultra breaks the tie with Jackson with his third place finish over Jack’s fourth place finish.

Red (RedHeadJO Resident) and Siri (Sirius Rosca) both finished tied with 12 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
