A beautiful Saturday afternoon in October was again the scene for this weeks North Sea Bandit IF Regatta. We started with seven Bandit IFs. One of the Bandit IFs had crew on board.

The first race got off to a good start. Six of the seven boats started over starboard and one over port. The whole fleet, except Julie, followed the boat that started from port. Red took the lead, followed by Moon, Rugger and Siri. At the first mark, Julie moved in between Red and Moon. When rounding the next mark, Moon and Julie had switched places. Rugger and Siri followed at an appropriate distance. History repeated itself at the last mark.

Between the races, a skipper joined the fleet. She had missed the first race due to computer issues. At the start of the second race, the RC was pressed for time. The entire fleet rushed to the start. This ended well, so that again a nice start took place. On the way to the first mark, Red took the lead, followed by Julie, Moon and Siri. Unfortunately, Rugger crashed while crossing over region corners. Arriving in Genip, we had a fierce battle between Julie and Moon, fighting neck and neck until the next mark. Siri followed a short distance from the fight. Going into the final leg, Red, Julie and Moon lay side by side and it would be a fierce battle all the way to the finish line

There were two DNFs (Did Not Finish) and no DSQs (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

Today we had two great races. Because the 22s started last, we got a completely different picture because the fleets were overtaking each other.

There were two DNFs (Did Not Finish) and one DSQ (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) and Jack (Jacquimo Resident) both finished tied with 8 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. With a fresh breeze of 18 knots out of the southwest, rising to 21 knots during the second race, The North Sea and Fruit Islands regions were well behaved with one DNF (Did Not Finish) recorded on the day. The lone DNF was due to a skipper crashing while crossing across region corners. The crowds that gathered on the beaches on the islands in the Ziziphus, and Genip regions, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on the furious fleet-foiled feline frenzy on display from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Bowline and North Sea 04 v3 courses, was made up of four The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows in the first race. One skipper opted to switch to his TMS Nacra 17 for the second race.

Race Notes:
Rayz (Rayzza Rubble) and Daenerys (blondij Resident) both finished the second race tied at the finishing line with a time of 14:32. As their final time also remains tied, as they both sailed the same boat, Rule A7 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to score this tie:

If boats are tied at the finishing line or if a handicap or rating system is used and boats have equal corrected times, the points for the place for which the boats have tied and for the place(s) immediately below shall be added together and divided equally. Boats tied for a race prize shall share it or be given equal prizes.

Therefore, both Rayz and Daenerys receive 2.5 points, as the product for the place for which they have tied and for the place immediately below, 2 and 3, added together and divided equally.

For the first Thursday Triple Threat of February 2022, we had five Bandit 22 LTEs, three Bandit IFs and three The Mesh Shop (TMS) Star Class. One 22 and Star Class had crew on board. During the first race we had a DNF (Did Not Finish) due a skipper hitting a corner. The races were exciting until the end. However, we had two absolute winners in the Star Class and Bandit IF. Do the skippers want to control themselves in the future and watch their language use? I won’t be the first RD who DSQ a skipper due incorrect language. Thank you.

There was one DNF (Did Not Finish) and one DSQ (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

The North Sea and Fruit regions behaved well and there was not a cloud in the sky. Until we got a thunderstorm on our roof in the second race, causing two skippers to stop

Today we would sail two races. In the first race there were duos and this resulted in several beautiful spectacles. At the second race a group of 4 and a group of 5 ships were formed. We kept this situation until we entered the Isles of Fruit. There we lost two skippers.

Calm to choppy seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. The North Sea and Fruit Islands regions were generally well behaved for everyone as no DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. However, during the second race, one skipper crashed while crossing region corners, but recovered to finish the race. A second skipper had an issue with her draw distance rising to 800 meters and crashing her in the middle of a region, while her computer suddenly gorged itself on a buffet of data from half the grid all at once. That skipper also was able to log back in and recover to finish the race. The crowds that gathered along the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus, and Genip regions, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier in the Eden Jakana region, reveled in the frenetic fleet-foiled feline frenzy on display from this weeks skippers.
