Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. With a moderate breeze of 11 knots out of the southwest, The North Sea regions were mostly behaved as two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. The first DNF, occurring during the first race, was from a skipper pulling her boat on the first leg. The remaining DNF, occurring during the second race, was due to a skipper crashing while crossing over region corners. The crowds that gathered on the lighthouse observation deck of the island in the Ziziphus region, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on a great display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea 01 and North Sea 02 courses, was made up of a majority of six Bandit 22 LTEs. Four Bandit IFs, three sailing single-handed and one crewed respectively, rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.

Today’s winner was Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook), with Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) second, and Cilian (Cilian McCullough) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate and to the SLCG for helping with race duties.

Race Notes:
Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) and Moon (moonglownight Resident) both finished the first race tied at the finishing line with a time of 12:54. As their final time also remains tied, as they both sailed the same boat, Rule A7 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to score this tie:

If boats are tied at the finishing line or if a handicap or rating system is used and boats have equal corrected times, the points for the place for which the boats have tied and for the place(s) immediately below shall be added together and divided equally. Boats tied for a race prize shall share it or be given equal prizes.

Therefore, both Rugger and Moon receive 1.5 points, as the product for the place for which they have tied and for the place immediately below, 1 and 2, added together and divided equally.

Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook) and Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) both finished the first race tied at the finishing line with a time of 13:05. As their final time also remains tied, as they both sailed the same boat, Rule A7 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to score this tie:

Boats tied for a race prize shall share it or be given equal prizes.

Therefore, both Emileigh and Zimtzicke receive 3.5 points, as the product for the place for which they have tied and for the place immediately below, 3 and 4, added together and divided equally.

Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook) and Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) both finished tied with 4.5 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
Emileigh Starbrook 1 3.5
ruggeromare Resident 1.5 3

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Emileigh’s favor with having a 1 point finish over Rugger’s 1.5 point finish as his best.

Moon (moonglownight Resident) and Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) both finished tied with 8.5 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

A beautiful Saturday afternoon was the scene for the first North Sea Bandit IF Regatta for August 2022. We started with eight Bandit IFs. Four of the eight bandit IFs had crew on board.

Immediately after the start, the fleet split up. Five boats turned west while the other boats continued south.
At the first mark the ships came together again, but by then a leading group of four, Red, Moon, Siri, Rugger, boats had already formed. This group stayed together until the penultimate mark. Here Siri and Moon distanced themselves from their companions. They would fight for first place. A boat should have stopped the race but another skipper joined the party.

In the second race, we left with eight Bandit IFs. Immediately after the start, a skipper split off from the fleet to join the fleet at the first mark. En route to the statues of Eden, the fleet seemed to be falling apart, but during the battle for second and third place, the three skippers left behind had a chance to rejoin the leading group. However, the front runner saw an opportunity to escape the violence that took place behind him. En route to the southernmost part of the route, the group split in two again. At the turning point it was already clear who would come second.

The third race would be decisive for the result. The fleet moved together towards the first mark. The fleet was still together when they passed the first mark. At the turning point, the cards would be shuffled for the final battle to the finish.

There were one DNF (Did Not Finish) and one DSQ (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

Calm to choppy seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. With a moderate breeze of 11 knots out of the southwest, The North Sea regions were generally well behaved as three DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. The first DNF, occurring during the first race, was due to a skipper being overly scripted causing her to crash on several consecutive region borders. After she scripted down from 104 scripts, she had no issues during the second race. The remaining two DNFs happened during the second race, as two skippers crashed on a border crossing, three regions from the finish line. The crowds that gathered around the lighthouses in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, reveled in an exciting display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. Saturday, time for the bandit IF Regatta. Today, we had seven Bandit IFs at the start. Two IFs had crew on board. One of the Bandits had problems before the start and gave up. We had three sporty exciting races today. Different groups arose with boats fighting each other, this made it exciting until the finish line

There were two DNFs (Did Not Finish) and no DSQs (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

Calm seas, with a great fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. With a moderate breeze of 11 knots coming out of the southwest, The North Sea regions were well behaved for our skippers with just two DNFs (Did Not Finish) recorded on the day. The first DNF, occurring during the first race, was attributed to a skipper pulling his boat shortly after the start of the race due to getting stuck in irons. The second DNF, occurring during the second race, was due to a skipper pulling his boat after realizing he had an incorrect course loaded in his navigation HUD. The crowds that gathered on the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on an exciting display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea 01 and North Sea 02 courses, was made up of a majority of seven Bandit IFs, five sailing single-handed and two sailing crewed respectively. Six Bandit 22 LTEs, and one Bandit 25r rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.
