Bandit Regatta – Mar 20th 2023

Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. With a moderate breeze of 11 knots out of the southwest, rising to 15 knots during the second race, The North Sea regions were mostly well behaved as one DNF (Did Not Finish) was recorded on the day. The lone DNF came from a skipper crashing while crossing over region corners in the second race. The crowds that assembled along the shores on the islands in the Ziziphus, and Genip regions, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, enjoyed an enthused display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea 02 and North Sea 01 courses, was made up of a majority of eight Bandit IFs, seven sailing single-handed and one crewed respectively. Three Bandit 22 LTEs, and one Bandit 25R rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.

Note:: With the onset of DST in the United States, Canada, and most of Mexico, SL time (PST) is now one hour ahead. However, Europe will not be entering EU Summer Time until Sunday, March 26th. In order to facilitate that our races are still at a friendly time for our sailors, we will be running our races one SL hour later, but still at the same time GMT/CET.

This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea 01 and the North Sea 02 courses, was made up of a majority of ten Bandit 22 LTEs. Three Bandit IFs rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet in the first race. One Bandit IF skipper opted for her Bandit 22 instead, for the second race.

Bandit IF Regatta – Feb 11th 2023

The second North Sea Bandit IF Regatta for February, 2023, took place on a pleasant Saturday afternoon. We had seven bandit IFs at the start. The fleet set out with Julie in the lead. Moon, Rugger, and Siri followed at an appropriate distance. Jack, and Vicky followed behind. On the way to the second mark, Moon broke away from Rugger, and Siri. Jack, and Vicky joined them. On the way to the final mark, Julie had managed to maintain a good lead over Moon. Moon against that had a good lead over the fleet.

At the start of the second race, Red ran into a bit of trouble, which meant that Moon took the lead. Closely followed by Siri, and Julie. Behind that we had Jack, and Rugger. At the statues, or where statues used to be in Eden, Rugger sailed away from Jack. But that was only for a short time. At the next mark, Jack had overtaken Rugger again. Meanwhile, Julie had passed Siri, and was chasing Moon. Moon had to pull out all the stops to stay ahead of Julie.

Finally it was time. The third and final race of the day. Rugger, and Julie had a good start. Rugger took the lead followed by Vicky, Siri, and Julie. Moon took another line and this made him take over the lead in the region of Ziziphus. Siri, and Rugger fought over the Ziziphus coastline. Julie, on the other hand, had broken away from Rugger, and tried to follow Moon. Red, and Jack tacked before Moon, and Siri. Julie got stuck behind Rugger again and had to wait because of this. When they arrived at Genip, Moon was still in charge. Julie had taken second place. Jack, Siri, and Rugger followed at an appropriate distance. Leaving Genip, Jack was firmly in control of third place. Back in the region of Ziziphus, Julie surprised Moon and took charge of him. Rugger, Siri, and Red would go on to battle for fourth place.

There was one DNF (Did Not Finish) and no DSQs (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

With a fresh breeze of 18 knots out of the southwest, The North Sea regions were well behaved as two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. The first DNF, occurring during the first race, was due to a skipper’s router resetting her internet connection during the first leg of the race. The second DNF, occurring during the second race, was attibuted to a skipper pulling her boat after getting stuck under the land bridge at the island in the Genip region. The crowds that gathered on the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on a thrilling display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea 02 and North Sea 01 courses, was made up of a majority of seven Bandit 22 LTEs. Three Bandit IFs, two sailing single-handed and one crewed respectively, rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.

Bandit Regatta – Sept 19th 2022

Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. With a moderate breeze of 11 knots out of the southwest, The North Sea regions were well behaved as one DNF (Did Not Finish) was recorded on the day. The lone DNF was attributed to a skipper crashing while crossing across region corners during the second race. The crowds that gathered along the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on an energetic display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea 02 and North Sea 01 courses, was made up of a majority of three Bandit 22 LTEs. Two Bandit IFs, split evenly with one crewed and one single-handed respectively, rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.

Bandit IF Regatta – August 6th 2022

A beautiful Saturday afternoon was the scene for the first North Sea Bandit IF Regatta for August 2022. We started with eight Bandit IFs. Four of the eight bandit IFs had crew on board.

Immediately after the start, the fleet split up. Five boats turned west while the other boats continued south.
At the first mark the ships came together again, but by then a leading group of four, Red, Moon, Siri, Rugger, boats had already formed. This group stayed together until the penultimate mark. Here Siri and Moon distanced themselves from their companions. They would fight for first place. A boat should have stopped the race but another skipper joined the party.

In the second race, we left with eight Bandit IFs. Immediately after the start, a skipper split off from the fleet to join the fleet at the first mark. En route to the statues of Eden, the fleet seemed to be falling apart, but during the battle for second and third place, the three skippers left behind had a chance to rejoin the leading group. However, the front runner saw an opportunity to escape the violence that took place behind him. En route to the southernmost part of the route, the group split in two again. At the turning point it was already clear who would come second.

The third race would be decisive for the result. The fleet moved together towards the first mark. The fleet was still together when they passed the first mark. At the turning point, the cards would be shuffled for the final battle to the finish.

There were one DNF (Did Not Finish) and one DSQ (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

Zero (Sleet Zero) was disqualified (DSQ) during the third race for finishing under protest while failing to complete a 360° penalty turn due to a Rule 11 On The Same Tack, Overlapped foul committed right before the finish line.

Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.“

This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea 01 and North Sea 02 courses, was made up of a majority of six Bandit 22 LTEs. Four Bandit IFs, three sailing single-handed and one sailing crewed respectively, rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.
