Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted the first Cat Fight in The North Sea for December. The North Sea regions were smooth for most of our skippers as only two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. Both DNFs, one a piece in each race, were due to skippers crashing while crossing over region corners. The crowds that gathered along the beaches of the islands in the Genip, and Ziziphus regions, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier in the Eden Jakana region, reveled in the festive fleet-foiled feline furor on display from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Manta and North Sea Triple Pink courses, was made up of a majority of five The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, three sailing single-handed and two sailing crewed respectively. One TMS Nacra 17, one WildWind AC-45, and one Trudeau HepCat rounded out the fleet in the first race. The fleet makeup changed slightly for the second race, as one Flying Shadow went single-handed after her crew had to log, and another Flying Shadow skipper chose to switch to his Nacra 17.

Mildly choppy seas, and a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. The North Sea regions were choppy for a few skippers, as although there were only two DNFs (Did Not Finish) on the day both in the first race, several skippers were un-sat from their boats across both races. Of those two DNFs, one was from a skipper crashing while crossing on region corners, with the remainder from a skipper losing all input control on their boat from a rough region crossing. The crowds that gathered along the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, as well as on the small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, reveled in the frisky fleet-foiled feline frenzy on display from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Circle and North Sea Double Loop courses, was made up of a majority of five The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, three crewed and two single-handed respectively. Two WildWind AC-45s, one TMS Nacra 17, and one Trudeau HepCat rounded out this weeks catamaran fleet.

Today’s winner was Daenerys (blondij Resident), with Cole (Colette Verino) second, and Julie (JulieRoyale Resident) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.

Race Notes:
Daenerys (blondij Resident) and Cole (Colette Verino) both finished the first race tied with a final time of 0:11:54. As the final time result is rounded to the nearest whole second in the Google Sheet, the exact final times for each skipper are: (race time multiplied by handicap equaling final time, all time in seconds)

Skipper Race Time Handicap Final Time
blondij 576 1.24 714.24
Colette 567 1.26 714.42

With the final times shown in seconds, the tie breaks in Daenerys’s favor with having a 714.24 seconds finish over Cole’s 714.42 seconds finish. Just to note, if both skippers final times had been an exact tie, Rule A7 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing would be used to break that tie instead:

If boats are tied at the finishing line or if a handicap or rating system is used and boats have equal corrected times, the points for the place for which the boats have tied and for the place(s) immediately below shall be added together and divided equally. Boats tied for a race prize shall share it or be given equal prizes.

Rayz (Rayzza Rubble) and Isa (isab DeCuir) both finished tied with 12 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Olympic Mirror and North Sea Circle courses, was made up of a small majority of seven The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, four sailing crewed and three sailing single-handed respectively. This weeks Trudeau Classic Regatta, in The North Sea, saw a great turnout with a nicely mixed fleet. This weeks fleet consisted of four 12 Metre’s, two Patchogue II’s, a Hepcat, a Leetle Cat II, and a Francois Jacques, that was switched out for a T-12 by it’s owner, Elbag, for the second race.

The first race, on NS-SOL-13B, saw some spirited competition among the 12 Metre’s with everyone chasing Peter after he passed Cole on the first upwind beat. The rest of the 12 Metre’s remained tight all the up to the finish. The small Patchogue II pack also some some tight racing as Asami and Omar were close for the entire course.

The second race, on North Sea Butterfly, saw Elbag switch out his Francois Jacques for a T-12, however RL came knocking and he recorded a DNF as he had to leave. The rest of the fleet saw some exciting racing between Peter and I, right from the start. The sound of Peter’s sails were in my ears the entire course as he stuck tight with me, finishing a mere 20 seconds behind me.
