Saturday afternoon, we had a fleet of six Bandit IFs at the start, with one Bandit IF crewed.
The North Sea regions behaved well and even in the Eden waters there was not a cloud in the sky.

Today for the first time, the “circle of the dragon” was at the start. The two races had two great starts. No sticking to the Committee boat as it happens on other days. Was that because of the circle, or is it something else? Time will tell.

Right from the start of the first race, a skipper immediately took the lead. She was followed behind by a group of four other skippers. As the race progressed, two groups of two boats were formed from the next group of four boats.

After the start of the second race, the fleet fell apart immediately. Two boats took the lead. Followed by two boats and two other boats sailed completely different lines.

We had one DNF (Did Not Finish) and three DSQs (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

Race Notes:
Rugger was disqualified (DSQ) during the first race for finishing the race under protest while failing to complete a 360° penalty turn as instructed by a race director for a 18.2 Giving Mark Room foul.

“18.2 Giving Mark-Room
(b) If boats are overlapped when the first of them reaches the zone, the outside boat at that moment shall
thereafter give the inside boat mark-room. If a boat is clear ahead when she reaches the zone,
the boat clear astern at that moment shall thereafter give her mark-room.“

Rugger (Ruggeromare Resident ) was disqualified (DSQ) during the second race for sailing an incorrect course. Sailing under the bridge of the island of Genip, as the whole island is the mark, this is not allowed.

Moon (moonglownight Resident) was disqualified (DSQ) during the second race for sailing an incorrect course, missing the first course mark, because he was sailing the wrong route.

Moon (moonglownight Resident) and Jack (Jacquimo Resident) both finished tied with 5 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Moon’s favor with having a first place finish over Jack’s second place finish as his best.

This Saturday afternoon, we had a fleet of eight Bandit IFs at the start. Two Bandit IFs had crew.
The North Sea regions behaved well and even in the Eden waters, there was not a cloud in the sky.

We had a good start with five boats together. The fleet stayed together until reaching the Appleberry region. A skipper already had a large lead, so that the fleet was no longer able to catch up.

The second race also went well. The fleet of six boats stayed together as far as the river in the Eden Kittiwake region. When exiting the river, a skipper had made a fuss of the fleet and another skipper had fallen behind. On the way to the last mark of the day, the next group had caught up with the front runner again.

We had one DNF (Did Not Finish) and no DSQs (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

We have three boats. For the first two next rule appear ON THE SAME TACK, OVERLAPPED, but the black boat need room because she has an island in front of her. So the rule ROOM TO TACK AT AN OBSTRUCTION comes into play. So the white boat has to give room for the black boat.

Mild sim sailing weather, with a great fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The North Sea regions started out generally behaved for our There and Back Again version of the regatta, with one DNF (Did Not Finish) recorded during the first race across the width of the entire North Sea estate. The seas grew slightly choppy during the second race, as three DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded. Of those three DNFs, one was due to a skipper pulling her boat after realizing she sailed the course backwards, another DNF was from a skipper crashing from crossing on region corners, and the final DNF was due to a skipper crashing on a border crossing. The crowd that gathered on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier, in the Eden Jakana region, followed and cheered on the exciting racing on display across the North Sea, as they hopped to the islands in the Ziziphus, Genip, and Eden Auk region, before heading to watch the finish in the Eden Jaeger region. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Curlew to Jaeger 01 and North Sea Scampi courses, was made up of a majority ten Bandit 22 LTEs. Four Bandit 25Rs rounded out the fleet in the first race. The fleet composition changed slightly for the second race as two skippers switched from the Bandit 22 LTE to the Bandit IF.

Race Notes:
Jenna (jnx1e Resident) and Sandra (WWWAAAA Resident) both finished the first race tied with a final time of 0:10:52. As the final time result is rounded to the nearest whole second in the Google Sheet, the exact final times for each skipper are: (race time multiplied by handicap equaling final time, all time in seconds)

Skipper Race Time Handicap Final Time
jnx1e 869 0.75 651.75
WWWAAAA 795 0.82 651.90

With the final times shown in seconds, the tie breaks in Jenna’s favor with having a 651.75 seconds finish over Sandra’s 651.90 seconds finish. Just to note, if both skippers final times had been an exact tie, Rule A7 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing would be used to break that tie instead:

If boats are tied at the finishing line or if a handicap or rating system is used and boats have equal corrected times, the points for the place for which the boats have tied and for the place(s) immediately below shall be added together and divided equally. Boats tied for a race prize shall share it or be given equal prizes.

Saturday afternoon, we had a fleet of ten Bandit IFs at the start. Two Bandit IFs had crew. The North Sea regions behaved well and even in the Eden waters there was not a cloud in the sky.

We had a great start with eight boats together. It can be seen that the skippers are getting better at pre-starts, however the threat from barging is still present.
After the start, a boat split from the fleet to then rejoin the fleet at the first mark. The tack to the first mark went smoothly for the remaining nine boats. At the mark buoy, we had a leading group of four boats, with the boat that had separated itself at the start as the leader. On the way to the second mark, there was a fight for second place. Later in the race there was still fighting for first place.

The start of the second race also went well. After the start, we already had a stretched fleet. This would not mean anything because the “venom was in the tail”. When entering Eden, we had a front runner and a chasing group of four above, taking the wind away from each other. After rounding the first mark, an island in the Eden Owl region, the skippers made their way between the islands. After they passed the gate, the route followed through a river in the Eden Kittiwake region. With the wind blowing on the bow, the steering skills of the various skippers surfaced. A skipper ran into problems and had to lower his sails, making it more of a challenge for the skippers behind to sail through the river.

We had two DNFs (Did Not Finish) and no DSQs (Disqualififed) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

A great fleet turnout, in light of some pesky region behavior, highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The North Sea regions were generally behaved for most, with the exception of the Sapote region which was offline until 5 minutes after the start of the small boat portion. Due to the Sapote regions late lunch, our originally planned courses of North Sea Olympic Course (Long) and North Sea Circle were changed to facilitate avoiding the gap left by the off line region. In light of the chaotic conditions, there was still only one DNF (Did Not Finish) recorded on the day, due to a skipper crossing on a region corner. The crowd that first gathered on the Poseidon Center Spectator Pier, in the Eden Jakana region, and then moved to follow and watch this weeks fleet, to the shores of the island in the Genip region, cheered on the close-knit fleet racing on display.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Cutlew to Jeager 01 course, was comprised of a majority of six Bandit 22 LTEs. Three Bandit IFs, two sailing single-handed and one sailing with crew respectively, two The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, one single-handed and one with crew, two TMS Nacra 17s, one TMS Star Class, one Bandit 25r, one Quest M-24, and one ReneMarine Clever1 rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Thornback course, was comprised of a majority of four Wildwind Open 60s. Three TMS One Design 65s, two TMS Volvo Open 70s, one TMS Ushuaia, one Wildwind RC-44r, one Wildwind AC-62, and one Trudeau 12 Metre rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.

1Note: The handicap for the ReneMarine Clever has been updated to a value of 0.69. You can see more info at our North Sea Handicap Table along with a link to the Google Sheet used for calculating the handicap values.

A beautiful Thursday afternoon, with good sailing weather, the wind coming from the south west, and no sign of a thunderstorm. Today we had eight Bandit IFs and three Bandit 22 LTEs, with one IF having extra crew on board.

The start of the first race went smoothly and it was going to be a great race with the three 22s split from the eight IFs right from the start. Out of these eight Bandit IFs, two boats would split off from the other six.

The start of the second race was almost the same as the first race. The three 22s took the lead right from the start. The seven Bandit IFs followed closely behind. The race ran through the heart of the Appleberry region.

We had one DNFs (Did Not Finish) and no DSQs (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

Two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day, both during the first race. Of those two DNFs, one was due to a skipper crashing while crossing on region corners and the other was from a crash on a region crossing. The crowds that gathered along the shores of the islands in the Eden Auk, and Genip regions, as well as along the shore of the Pelican Sailing School, in the Eden Murrelet region, cheered on the fleet-fouled feline frenzy from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Thornback and North Sea Barracuda courses, was comprised of a majority of seven The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, four sailing with crew and three sailing single-handed respectively. Choppy to smooth seas, with a great fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The North Sea regions were slightly choppy for the start of our monthly There and Back Again version of the regatta, with five DNFs (Did Not Finish) recorded on the day. All five of those DNFs occurred during the first portion of the regatta. Two DNFs were due to skippers crashing on region crossings. A third DNF was due to a skipper pulling her boat after being frustrated from getting caught in irons1, with the remaining two DNFs the result of skippers crashing while crossing on region corners. The seas calmed for the second race of the regatta, with every skipper staring and finishing out of a fleet of 16 boats. The crowd that initially gathered on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier, in the Eden Jakana region, and then followed the fleet, viewing from the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, cheered on the great racing on display from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Curlew to Jaeger 01 and North Sea Jaeger to Curlew 01 courses, was comprised of a majority of ten Bandit 22 LTEs. Four Bandit IFs, two sailing with crew and two sailing single-handed respectively, and two Bandit 25Rs rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.

Calm seas, that turned stormy late, and a great fleet turnout highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The North Sea regions were calm and smooth for the first portion of our monthly There and Back Again series across the width of the entire estate, as every skipper finished without a hiccup. The seas turned choppy late into the second portion, as the Mammea region decided to take a late lunch and go offline, taking two skippers with it resulting in the only two DNFs (Did Not Finish) recorded on the day. The crowd that gathered on the small race dock, in the Eden Jakana region, and then following the fleet, hopping to the islands in the Ziziphus, Genip, and Eden Auk regions, reveled and cheered on this weeks Bandit skippers as they put on a lively display of fleet racing. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Curlew to Jaeger 01 and North Sea Jaeger to Curlew 01 courses, was comprised of a majority of six Bandit 22 LTEs. Four Bandit IFs, three sailing single-handed and one sailing with crew respectively, and four Bandit 25Rs rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.
